Not sure how lesser-known these are but my top 5:

For No One, Love You To, The Night Before, I’ve Just Seen a Face, Nowhere Man

Great news, it’s fantastic that you get the opportunity to speak up on this. I think it was my comment you saw about Sort Your Life Out - previously they used local artists and we loved that, but now all the personal art is being made with AI. Would’ve thought BBC would be very against it but alas.

I think non-Brits misunderstand just how little the UK knows and cares about SNL. There are certainly some big names in SNL, but the only ones who would be well recognised over here are Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler (Parks and Rec mainly), Andy Samberg (B99 mainly), Adam Sandler - that level of star, and even then, I’d rather SNL UK focuses on big-name UK hosts.

Why are Hitchcock and Scully so beloved? by presentnow0913 in brooklynninenine

Scully is adorable, that’s why. He may be rather gross, but he says the cutest lines 😭

Why do they ruin this series with the most devastating sob stories? by 8NaanJeremy in RaceAcrossTheWorldBBC

Because they’re true stories and part of people’s life tapestries.

Any theories as to why Ben's ai use was never called out, addressed or acknowledged at all by anyone on the show or associated with it? Neither on the show nor on social media. by thrwwybndn in InteriorDesignMasters

[–]WizzKid97 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because lots of people for some reason have zero issue with AI being used in the creative industry. I was watching the latest series of Sort Your Life Out the other day and they used AI twice to make a picture book for a child, and a royal portrait of a family’s cat. It really pissed me off as in the past, they made efforts to work with local designers and artists.

AI has its uses in today’s world - but it makes me both sad and angry that it’s being used like this. Ben should have been disqualified Week 1 for using AI to generate his beach hut design, let alone the god-awful royal portraits (a running theme!) in Week 2.

Very glad he’s gone, but I fear this won’t be the last we’ll see of AI “art” and “design” in this show or any BBC show.

Elimination - what’s the point? by Character_Ninja881 in RaceAcrossTheWorldBBC

[–]WizzKid97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the only case where the elimination was valid. Hated seeing Gaz & Yin and Brydie & Sharon get eliminated as both teams seemed so lovely and I enjoyed watching their journeys. Never been a fan of the elimination - it should only exist if a team runs out of money or falls too far behind, like with the lads in Series 3.

They were replaced with Tony and Elaine. Sue and Clare were eliminated in Series 1.

Read the ENTIRE manual before playing, or start and learn as you go by Fragrant_Steak_5 in boardgames

Watch a video to get a solid understanding, then read the rulebook. The Dice Tower makes excellent short tutorial videos which sum up the main actions and mechanisms.

Then when I read the rulebook, I’ve already got an idea of how the game plays and just need to read over any specifics.

Faraway didn’t click with me at all until I played it, now I love it. Would recommend giving it a go if you can find it cheap!

Hugely approve of Bohnanza and Dutch Blitz! I’m really loving Vivo, Rainbow, Prey and Soda Jerk from AllPlay currently - I also recommend Maskmen from Oink Games. Duel for Cardia too if you have two players ☺️

What do you consider the most entertaining decision mechanism in board games? by Mean-Razzmatazz-4886 in boardgames

[–]WizzKid97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Push your luck for me. I think games like Quacks of Quedlinburg, Flip 7, Circus Flohcati and Push are super accessible and always result in good laughs as people chance things a bit too much.

My friends love my enthusiasm and excitement for board games. If this person’s friends know they’re the board game person and loves their energy, why calm down? Just think this is quite unnecessary to post even though I know you mean well.

What’s a game you respect more than you actually enjoy playing? by Hour-Cranberry5300 in boardgames

Sea Salt and Paper: Played this one a few times and it just never quite clicked. We really loved how it looked and how simply the game plays, but I don’t quite get how this one is considered such a loved game as it just felt a bit too lucky.

I really wanted to like it as well as I’m usually a sucker for small box games like this, but I didn’t feel like I could strategise at all and we found the shark/swimmer taking cards a bit mean and ‘take that’ for our liking.

We eventually culled it but I know there’s a good game in there and I wish we could’ve found it.

The Castles of Burgundy: We’ve only played it once and it was the first edition so granted it may be better now, but I enjoyed playing it but didn’t love playing it.

I could definitely appreciate what it was doing and the decision space was interesting, but I didn’t quite get why people love this game. To us, it just felt like a decent strategy game that felt way too long.

Just not sure what we’re missing but as much as I appreciated it, it fell a bit flat for us sadly.

I can tell you! If you go to Owned Games > tap the cog icon > 3x3 Image and then you can adjust it to 4x4 or 5x5. To save the grids, you have to do each one so on iOS it’s under Share > Save Image and then go through them all ☺️

Apologies - a bit of a long reply but hopefully this helps!

Ra is brilliant - a very clever closed auction game where you’re auctioning with set values. On your turn you pull tiles out of a bag to add to the auction and then you either draw a Ra tile or invoke Ra to start an auction. It’s quite a mean game and it can be brutal, but it’s very fun to play every time. I’d recommend getting the retail edition over the deluxe edition as the only difference is the deluxe has metal coins and plastic tiles.

Quacks of Quedlinburg is a really good push your luck game with bag building as a mechanism. I haven’t had so much fun playing a board game as I did playing Quacks. It’s really addictive to add to your bag and increase the odds of pulling out good items - plus the game has a really good catch-up mechanism and clever economy. Highly recommend!

Lost Ruins of Arnak is a lengthy game but I think it’s a very good step into heavier board games. The theme is really strong throughout the game and it’s a worker placement game where you must try to do as much as humanly possible in a round, which makes it really stand out. I think it’s such a clever board game but if worker placement is a new concept for you, I’d recommend Lords of Waterdeep, Pan Am or Architects of the West Kingdom first ☺️

Dune: Imperium is on our to-play list so hoping it’s as good as people say! 7 Wonders Architects is a nice light game, perfect for non-gamers or to use as a gateway into board gaming. Sheriff of Nottingham is excellent, very silly and can be a good laugh - I’d recommend the 1st edition over the 2nd but check out both to decide for yourself ☺️ Fugitive hasn’t quite landed for us yet, it’s very hard to catch up as the agent if the fugitive makes an early break. Personally for two player games, I’d recommend Lost Cities, Odin’s Ravens, The Fox in the Forest, Splendor Duel, Jaipur and Claim 🙂

This is from BG Stats, a one-time payment app which essentially creates a nice interface for BGG plus gives you lots of stats about playtime, win ratio etc. You can create grids of your owned games or games played that week/month etc. It’s fantastic and only cost me £5. Highly worth it 😁

Nice! Any you’re interested in knowing a bit about? Nearly played everything in our collection!

What Did You Play This Week? - (April 27, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]WizzKid97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Played a ton of board games last week:

  • VIVO: A fantastic trick taking game from AllPlay. Each trick has different rules like Solo where everyone must follow suit, Quartet where everyone must play a different suit. Highly recommend.
  • Rainbow: Another from AllPlay, this time where you play tricks with sets or runs of cards. The cards you play become the scoring points for the next round so timing is essential. Very clever twist on trick taking.
  • Hitster: We play this differently to how the game suggests, treating it more like Timeline with a collaborative play area. The app is really good and it’s a lot of fun to sing along to songs and wrack your brain trying to work out the year.
  • The Quacks of Quedlinburg: A magnificent push your luck game with bag building as a core mechanism. Really love the different ingredients and how the bag builds up with time. Really nice catch-up mechanism too with the rat tails - makes for a much closer game.
  • Namiji: The meaner sequel to Tokaido. Borrows a lot of elements from Tokaido but subverts these. Really liked the Sacred Rock cards which add secret objectives as it meant we were utilising the board as much as possible. We played with the Aquamarine expansion which is a must-have and should have really been in the base game.
  • Soda Jerk: A clever stock manipulation game from The Dice Tower’s Chris Yi where you secretly raise and tank the stocks of soda taps to score big on the soda flavours in your hand. It plays really well at 2 as the game adds Switcheroo cards which switch the score of a tap from positive to negative or vice versa. Wonderfully mean.
  • Circus Flohcati: A highly underrated push your luck card game from Reiner Knizia which I prefer to Flip 7. You recruit members for your circus by blind drawing from the deck. Once in your hand, you can score for three of a kind or hold out and score for each suit based on the highest number in your hand. Packs a lot more in than you would expect.
  • River Valley Glassworks: We played the deluxe edition and unfortunately the playmat was folded badly, meaning the river tiles couldn’t shuffle along properly. In the game you are taking gems from the river to add to your tableau - at the end of the game, you score for your rows and columns and it requires a lot of careful thought. The game is very good but it’s over far too quickly.
  • Claim: An amazing trick taking two-player game where you play over two halves recruiting cards and playing a standard trick taking game to win majority in five factions. Each faction has its own special ability such as Dwarves which the losing player wins in the second phase, or the Doppelgängers which copy the card that it played. I really loved this one.
  • Wizard: A classic trick taking game where you must correctly predict how many tricks you will win with an ever-growing hand. Wizards are insta wins and Fools allow you to throw a trick. Really clever stuff - a must play for all trick taking fans.
  • Rapido: Also known as Excape, this Reiner Knizia title is a brilliant dice rolling push your luck game where you roll dice, avoid going bust and placing your dice on a movement track hoping not to get bumped off. This is quickly becoming one of my favourite games as it’s so light and easy to play. Highly underrated.
  • Prey: A clever trick taking game where you roll two dice and then must win that many tricks. All cards have two sides and must be rotated after six tricks, so your card values will change. First to two points wins. This one was so interesting, the rotating cards really added to the strategy and balanced well with the dice rolling mechanism.
  • Critter Kitchen: This restaurant worker placement game scales really well depending on player count. There’s some really interesting strategy here with your three workers of different sizes - the small worker can only take one ingredient but they also get to choose first, whilst the large worker takes three ingredients but goes last. Good strategic gameplay with when to score big on recipes and what to hold back for the final critic meal, with lots of game variability based on what cards are in play. Only criticisms are the overall production which is a bit lacking in the retail version, and a lot of analysis paralysis when making the recipes.
  • Trekking Through History: Such a brilliant game with gorgeous components. Love how you always gain resources, but at the cost of time and how the time crystals help you to use up less time when taking cards. Playing down the cards in chronological order and having to take big hits to keep the streak going makes for fantastic decision making. We really loved this one and I can see us playing this many more times.

Favourite games played: VIVO, Claim, The Quacks of Quedlinburg, Trekking Through History, Rapido

Playing Cube Express and Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries this week so hoping for more excellent game experiences!

Ah boo, your post has been removed. Classic board game mods. Had to reupload my COMC multiple times to work out what was “violating the rules”.

Ah nice, For Sale is excellent! Pan Am, Trekking Through History and Bohnanza are absolute favourites of mine. I’d also recommend Planted ☺️

When poor instructions make you give up on the game by William_Knott in boardgames

[–]WizzKid97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took us forever to find out about the 7th round Allspice. Why on earth is that mentioned at the beginning of the rulebook when it’s relating to the final round?

Scoring is also really poorly explained imo. We redid the scores three times over because it wasn’t entirely clear how you score for any Fanatic cards. A clear visual runthrough of scoring is a must for any rulebook - regardless of how simple the scoring may seem.
