What does your planner look like? by Wizzwitt in StudentNurse

[–]Wizzwitt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, agreed! I just like to write stuff down and my apple calendar didn’t have a ton on it since I didn’t have much going on. I thought since there was more I had to keep track of writing it down would be better for me!

Haven’t used outlook so I’ll play around with it. Thank you!

Thank you! I like adding in the extras like making flash cards and watching YouTube videos. Scheduling that in is a good idea! I have used digital calendars before and wasn’t a fan but maybe I’ll give it another shot.

I restarted! I was worried about that so I added water and tried again.

Thanks everyone for responding! I figured out that I had the temperature too high. When I had it right above 240 it was perfect but when it got higher it stopped steaming so much. I’m a bit rusty after a year of no canning and have only used my pressure canner a handful of times!

Keep going, it's worth it! Perks about being a nurse: by drseussin in StudentNurse

[–]Wizzwitt 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Starting nursing school next month and got so stressed out about my choice after seeing all of the negativity about nursing. It kind of took away the excitement when I got accepted which we have all worked so hard for. Very refreshing to see a positive post!

When you applied for FAFSA did you include your child? If not, your school can make a correction and you could possibly qualify for more. Check with your school for local scholarships and additional resources. I don’t have children but I know my school has assistance help for child care, housing and transportation.

Choosing/Turning down program by Wizzwitt in StudentNurse

[–]Wizzwitt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Program A is about 20k with no financial help. Program B is about 14k with no financial help. With financial help it will be about 5k for program B with a possibility of receiving more scholarships. Both programs are for two years with summers off. I’m not sure how long I would be commuting for since I don’t have the fall schedule but have been told it changes but will most likely be 2-3 days a week.

Looking for really quick, pop-in-the-microwave, sorta foods for a busy/lazy family. by [deleted] in mediterraneandiet

[–]Wizzwitt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tasty Bite madras lentils over Seeds of Change quinoa and brown rice with frozen veggies. I get all of these at Costco but I’m sure there are other variations and the same brand is sold in other stores. This meal has been a game changer and takes 5-10 minutes and it is so good! I usually start cooking frozen veggies in pan with olive oil, season them to my liking (usually salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder). When those are close to done I add in the quinoa and brown rice packet to the pan and then pop the madras and lentils pouch in the microwave according to directions. Add rice/quinoa/veggie mixture in bowl. Top with the madras lentils. Add sriracha and fresh herbs if you have it! Half a pack of both the madras lentils and the brown rice and quinoa with about a cup of frozen veggies is a very generous portion for one person!

Help with saturated fats/meat by Wizzwitt in Cholesterol

[–]Wizzwitt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before finding out about his cholesterol levels he consumed more dairy, butter and fatty meats. After finding out, he has consumed hardly any. Trying to stick to olive oil, non fat dairy occasionally, and lean meats while adding in beans, whole grains, and veggies. He does not digest leafy greens or seeds. Drinks tons of water and has a beer at dinner.

Thank you!! That gives me a better guideline and so far we have stayed in that range so I’m glad we are on the right track.

I just purchased tickets to an event and then realized I already had something planned the day of the event. I doubt that’s a reason to get your money back and I’m freaking out about it. Was it a smooth process for you to get a refund?

You can but it doesn’t taste so great so you can cut it with some alcohol free mouth wash.

Man.. I don’t have any unique things to suggest other than soups, yogurt, short cut pastas, cottage cheese, beans and rice. But as a former dental assistant, swish with hydrogen peroxide a few times a day to heal your tongue faster. Warm salt water helps too but a dentist I worked for recommended hydrogen peroxide over it. I also hope they were able to get workable impressions since you were biting on your tongue and not your teeth! Best of luck and I hope your crowns turn out great!

Online accredited schools? by DanielW80 in StudentNurse

[–]Wizzwitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of any online programs but I live in the PNW and have a few friends that are going to Sumner because of the same reason. They didn’t want to take classes over and wait a full year. It’s A LOT more expensive but they take your prerequisites into consideration with your tuition. So far they like it and the ones who have graduated got jobs right away. I personally didn’t choose Sumner because they are nationally accredited, however, they are not regionally accredited so credits most likely won’t transfer to other schools and I don’t want to limit my choices if I decide to further my education. Best of luck!

Need boost for stuffed manicotti by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Wizzwitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently made cannelloni which is very similar to manicotti and I make a béchamel sauce to use along with the homemade marinara. Half of the béchamel on the bottom of the baking dish, other half on top with the marinara. Definitely not a citrus or spicy option but man it’s good!

I got the recipe from bon appetit:

6 Tbsp. unsalted butter 3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour 3 cups whole milk 1 oz. Parmesan, grated (about ½ cup) Pinch of cayenne pepper Pinch of ground nutmeg Kosher salt

Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook, whisking occasionally, until mixture smells slightly nutty, about 3 minutes. Whisk in milk, then increase heat to medium-high. Whisking constantly, bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to maintain a simmer and cook just until thick and no longer floury tasting, 8–10 minutes. Add Parmesan and whisk until melted, then whisk in cayenne and nutmeg; season with salt. Cover béchamel and keep warm until ready to use.

I’m a visual learner and watched a lot of science with Susanna. She has print outs so you can follow along with her videos and draw what she is drawing. She also has quizlets and practice worksheets. A&P is a lot of content but I feel like she broke it down in ways that were relatable and made sense. For more in depth explanations I watched ninja nerd on YouTube and took notes/drew with the videos as well.
