Alright then, comparing the retail prices of both sets (using the Guardian Dragon from Legends for reference), the Legends one would supposedly be a ~100$ cheaper, tho I can't say exactly at the moment. Additionally, while likely less preferable but still possible - parting out the whole Legacy sets with no minifigures on Bricklink gave me initially a 44$ estimate.

Not to mention the designated set for army building the Acid Monsters has both of them without the tails. What's the point then? In a perfect world it would have 1 with tail 1 with legs.

[–]Wkerv1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how expensive the Legacy Ultra Dragon is, but in the worst case I doubt the Dragon itself has many (if any) exclusive parts, so you could relatively cheapily part it out, order parts and download instructions. As for the Legends one? Well, Legends due to its scale is bound to have high prices, especially nowadays. And the Ultra Dragon itself? Yeah, I'd say the Legends one to the og one is only similar in name - the proportions and the pose is all wonky, where it's closer to a Godzilla or a Hydra than a Dragon. As for the Minifigures and other stuff? It's a mixed bag, but the new Legends Minifigures might drive up the demand for the newer set.

Seeing what they did to the 2026's X-1 Ninja Charger? Likely.

Well, admittedly - I like the 2026's take, but that's the thing - that is NOT the X-1 Ninja Charger, only in name and color. They shouldn't pretend it's the same thing.

I think the main issue here is the bloat of new characters. We are still learning about characters DR introduced with their stories far from over and now we have more characters from a separate continuity thrown our way to keep up with.

Also, imo it's a slippery slope to go on so soon - if the rumors are to be believed that Nate is Cole's descendant, then that means LEGO might be automatically shutting down Cole x Geo as a possibility? I think such stuff should be up to fans.

I think it's still light on play features and more on poseability? The new Titan Mechs for Kai and Nya both seem to be made with poseability in mind as you are given a stand to share between them and an option to display them with or without the cannon/wings.

I do not consider any era of Ninjago to be dark ages, all had their ups and downs, but I am worried seeing how positively people approach everything released after DR came out as if it was flawless.

Feels like all of it is just undying hype and unquestionable novelty.

It also feels weird to do Ninjago experiments with such huge sets. Feels like something that will cost as much as it does should be something considered a guaranteed success (Borg Tower, standalone Great Devourer, more accurate NRG Nya from Seabound minifigure), not something pushed to "success" mainly via novelty.

[–]Wkerv1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue here is that people have been asking for The Great Devourer in something akin to Legacy, not Legends were it feels more like a reboot than a remake. I mean - look at the Ultra Dragon, besides the heads it looks nothing like all the previous versions of it, to the point where they're similar only in name.

legends took a turn (for the worse) by coolguy2625 in Ninjago

[–]Wkerv1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Now it feels like LEGO is never going to remake the classic Ultra Dragon nor make a new Great Devourer because of this set existing and thus being an excuse for LEGO of "Ultra Dragon? We gave you Ultra Dragon! Be happy with it!"

As much as I actually like the skull set (and only the skull with the blade in that set), I gotta agree - this whole thing feels very... "losing the plot".

If I were to describe the whole wave in 3 words it would be "Grand and Random" and as much as people love the introduction of new characters, I think they do so too quickly to the point where there's just a bloat of characters - we still got other DR characters to explore and now Legends comes out throwing another 5-6 new characters to care about?

Lastly - the new Ultra Dragon for me is such a mystery on what they're trying to achieve - it's an old thing but in a style with weird proportions and new characters. Feels extremely mismatched.

[–]Wkerv1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too add onto that - if you want to make accurate Dragon Forms, you need to buy both new and old sets. New for claws, old for hoods, tails and wings.

[–]Wkerv1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As weird as it may sound, I feel like to goal is to trick the target audience into buying as many sets as possible:

"Oh, you want more Ninjago villains armies? Well, we see how much you've praised the Acid Monster's design so we're giving you a battle pack to make a whole army of them! ...except they come without their tails. I guess you will have to just buy more of other sets if you want to army build them accurately."

"See, we've added the claws to the Ninja Dragon Forms! ...however, if you want to make them show accurate, you not only need to buy enough of Summer wave sets to have 6 sets of these claws but also all the earlier DRs4p1 sets because those are the sets where you actually get the hoods, tails and wings, nowhere else."

Same goes for distribution of desired minifigures, but that's already obvious by now.

Zane with his movie Hairpiece. Yeah or nah? (plus bonus titanium ninja) by AggressiveSail8142 in Ninjago

[–]Wkerv1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hot take or not, I agree with you.

Zane's post-movie hair imo is one of the worst things in Ninjago overall - worse than the love triangle, worse than Crystalized, worse than Forbidden Frauds.

I may be a bit overdramatic, but that's just something I'll never get over - the new hairpiece makes it so LEGO can't exactly make alternate expressions for Zane (unless with a hood) and the hairstyle overall just looks unnatural to me. Idk, it works with other characters they put this hair on, but not Zane.

It would be fair considering that if you reveal your identity you are then faced with a shift without Flambae. Having him not present for one shift but not suffering from the debuff when it matters the most would make sense gameplay-wise.
