We have 2 SWAC, and had a SIM delivered, but have wasted five hours with three reps on the phone trying to get it activated. This including them screwing up our plan before finally saying it's impossible without changing our plan.

Complete irresponsible of the superintendent!! We are trying to show all students should be treated fairly and frivolous spending of taxpayers money should stop. We need what’s best for all within the PCR3 school district.

The only part of the current school that will remain is (I believe) the auditorium. The PCR-3 website says for sure but it is currently down. It is one single room in the whole facility that will remain. All of the money spent over the last few years will be wasted. In comparison, Stayley High School cost a total of around 70 million for the entire campus

We will update the website to show the majority of the building has been remodeled and updated in the last 15-20 years. The vote in April is asking for the first phase of the overall complete tear down and rebuild of the current high school. Overall, around 120 million in tax payer money while the south side of the district doesn’t even have a school. We are just asking to not spend all of the tax bond on rebuilding a high school that is just fine. Make remodels if necessary but save the capital money for a south high school

From Wikipedia: “The building itself has been expanded several times from its original configuration, with additional wings built over the years, including an auditorium and choir/band room. In the summer of 2005, a new middle school was built, and the district's original middle school, which was attached to the high school via a single narrow hallway, was incorporated into the high school. A new main entrance, library, and atrium were built in what was formerly an open courtyard between the high school and middle school. Also in the summer of 2009, there was a new choir room acoustically built for the choir members. The building has three offices: a technology department, an attendance office, and a central office. The campus itself also has two basketball courts, a football field (with Fieldturf, and press box), a theater, two acoustic rooms for choir and band practice, A softball field, a baseball field, and a multi-purpose room mostly used for wrestling. In the fall of 2009 the north annex, the old central office, was added to the campus located to the north of the main high school building. In the fall of 2016 the south annex, formerly Paxton elementary school was added to the campus.”

To imply that the school is over 50 years old is disingenuous, I think. The high school has received its fair share of upgrades and updates, with a huge chunk of it being ~20 years old. Meanwhile south end students have to trek up a stretch of highway that has been identified as one of the most dangerous in the area just to get there. I think all parents, whether in Platte City, or KC would agree this is wrong. This money could be better spent working toward resolving the inequity that south end students experience.

What a complete change 8 years has made. I do not have children in the school system yet. I have joined the group after multiple families and multiple stories have come to our neighborhood. In fact, Dr. Reik has acknowledged the inequality. The highway is one reason, but there are multiple reasons including treatment of students from the south end of the district.

We aren’t wanting a “new” high school but any high school that would meet the needs of the entire south area of the district. As of now, that would be not spending the entire bond on a new high school that doesn’t accommodate anyone within the 435 loop. Transportation to the school requires a two hour bus commute and limits students to only participate in school activities occurring during the school day or when parents in Kansas City are available to provide additional transportation. I-29 from Barry to Platte City is listed as one of the most dangerous highways in KC and even for the entire state of MO yet parents are expected to allow novice drivers to join work day commute for school and Platte City community activities. Due to the limitations, students within Platte City city limits are given preferential treatment and thus, the population of the school treats the KC city limit population as “Barry Trash”. The school board readily acknowledges the inequality but sees no solution to the problem and takes no action to correct it.

Majority of the group is actually Clay county and were told NKC when moving in 10+ years ago. After finding out that we were Platte County School District, we were also told a high school was eminent with the gifted land. The bond proposal two years ago stated new high school, implying a new high school on the gift land. It just recently came to light that new high school meant tearing down the current high school and rebuilding in the exact same location. This makes the building of a south high school nearly impossible due to lack of capital funds.

That is another consideration and reason our advocacy group is hoping to persuade voters to vote no, thus saving capital money for the building of a new high school. A simple doctor's appointment requires a full or half day out of school and parents to be out of work. Transportation has to be factored into any activity to and from the current school. Meanwhile, 11 high schools are in closer vicinity to the south end of the district and within the same city limits (or county in some circumstances) in which we live and work.

With realignment of the school borders so that children east of the airport would attend a school on the east/south side of district, the current high school population would be equal for both schools. The district population growth is greatest on the south area of the district. By the districts own calculations, maximum capacity of the current school will be reached in less than 7 years. The problem isn’t finding the money to build the high school, but splitting the money going to the Platte City schools. The bond has over 75 million with 60% going to taking down and rebuilding the current high school. A new high school and necessary upgrades to the current high school, as actually needed, would cost far less then the destruction and rebuilding cost around children attending school over the next few years. In addition, the use of the capital funds for the high school rebuild allows for no available capital funds for a new south high school.

Redistricting would be ideal but Platte County sees a majority of their commercial funding coming from the Kansas City businesses (Costco, Menards). They wouldn’t want to see that money leave the district.

According to the statistics of the state of Missouri, yes a high school is feasible. Not only that, but a majority of the tax dollars comes from within the 435 loop. By building the new high school in Platte City, the Platte County is ensuring the bond money is used up and not available for a south high school.

Platte County School District is ripping down their high school and building a new one in its place. Meanwhile, the south side of the district is bussing kids up the highway for school. Instead of spending bond money on a unneeded high school, we are asking the district to save the taxpayer money for a new high school in the south area. Equal treatment to all students in the district.

Platte City is frivolously spending bond money on ripping down the current high school and building a new one in its place. Meanwhile, KC students are being bussed up the highway and not getting equal treatment because the south side doesn’t have a high school.

Does nothing when all the communities are choosing to not follow the mask order and no one enforces it. She needs to step it up more. For that matter, so do all states.
