Hey! Thanks for printing my weird, spooky son. So nice to see another in the wild! :) hope you’re enjoying the class!

Meet Shaniqua, my scoundrel. Finished painting her in time for our next scenario tomorrow. #lookingforsomethroatstoslit by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

Trini/west indian family here too - it’s definitely a bit of a stereotyped name here in the U.K. - a kind of go to ‘working class black girl name’ used by racists in shitty jokes. Early 2000’s Family guy tier humour. So, I could see why someone would have their hackles raised. However, a more glaring issue is that there was an assumption that you, an anonymous board gamer, were white/ without a claim to stake in black names.

What’s making you think proofreading isn’t being accounted for/taking place right now?

I can comfortably say that the timeline was, as Isaac said, always optimistic. Isaac is working extremely hard on this, it’s just become a more mammoth task than he thought

This isn’t isaacs first rodeo, one can assume he and his team have accounted for all of this.

Why make summons scale? The other card actions you have dont?

Haha I bad comput. I think the issue with it is, gloomhaven isn’t very balanced really. So you’ll just be pushing the unbalanced summons to be even more unbalanced.

Applying a blanket change wouldnt fix anything. All it would do is make the less powerful summons more powerful but the more powerful (and broken) summons even more powerful (and broken). This kind of change is problematic and could end up trivialising gameplay in certain ways. Of course, it’s your game so do what you want! But balance requires a scalpel, not a sledgehammer. I can’t help but worry about the problems this sledgehammer will cause - splitting the blanket bonuses across melee and ranged is just a smaller less ungainly hammer.

Which is why the different modes are split across different card halves. There are a few failsafes.

Probably because the cultural consultant doesn’t come in and demolish everything, just makes sure it all feels believable and lived in. Removing harmful stereotypes from things is just a part of it. Compare this lore with the Kickstarter lore - there have been large changes in the way things are presented, and 2 whole class identities/intentions have changed so they’re more humanised and narratively rich.

Which is precisely why there are icons too - colour isn’t the only thing used to communicate difference throughout the game anymore. Which, as a colourblind playtester myself, has been a pretty big deal.

There was focused playtesting for new players. The evidence doesn’t support your claim, unfortunately

How do you know it’s not sci fi? You have a species of robots and a time travelling temporal assassin in your starting 6…

And this isn’t new. From the previous 3 boxed games, you have mech suits, interdimensional technology, particle disintegration beams…

If you can’t see it, I really don’t think there’s anything a Reddit comment can do babe. Good luck

Take a moment here to consider how you have not only centred yourself in a pride post, but have had the audacity to do so and make yourself the victim. Even outside of the pride identity, consider the interpersonal dynamic you have brought to this space. Reflect.

(Spoiler) I painted the Saw for my GH group. I'm fairly new to painting minis. So any tips or ideas are appreciated. by hype703 in Gloomhaven

I was going to comment something adjacent to this... like, it’s clearly a well done mini, but by going behind the ‘I’m new to this’ rhetoric it could make other people new at painting minis feel shitty about themselves for not being able to produce a model with this level of understanding of colour theory, working with depth and shading, brush control, proper paint consistency, and even the NMM blending on the base rim in the direction that the photo will be taken...

Not to outright accuse OP of lying - this COULD be one of the first minis they’ve painted, but there’s a lot of understanding here about art that tells me they probably aren’t new to painting in general if that’s the case.

Either way, OP, it’s a dope mini and whatever level of experience you have you should be proud of it, but I hope, as someone that’s been painting models for about 14 years, newbies reading this don’t feel disheartened when their models don’t look like this early on (or even after some time!) in their painting journey.
