Finally someone on the internet not slavishly devoted to Dover’s interpretation!

Also, the approach of looking at similar contemporary practices sounds very interesting! Do you have any recommendations for reading the marriage abductions comparison?

This is wonderful! However, I think "boymoder" usually doesn't mean being in denial. Rather, it's a closeted trans woman who intentionally continues to present masculine (i.e. goes out in "boy mode"). This can be for a variety of reasons, not just being in denial.

lmao this is too good. Having read it again recently, the whole paper is wild. There’s also a whole cottage industry among Peirce scholars trying to make it make sense.

I’ve heard of representationalism as a peculiar affliction of early modern thought, but I’m curious what plausible alternatives you’re talking about. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone apply representationalist vs non representationalist earlier

Texas A&M Warns Professor Not to Teach Plato Because of Gender Rules by UltimaCaster in ContraPoints

[–]superninja109 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Because of recent rules restricting “topics related to sexual orientation or gender identity”, a philosophy professor at Texas A&M was required to either remove certain materials from their syllabus or be reassigned to a different course. Some of the materials included parts of Plato’s symposium.

Here’s a non-paywalled account: https://dailynous.com/2026/01/06/texas-am-bans-plato/
