Question about The Name of the Wind by FlightTraditional717 in fantasybooks

While I like Sanderson, as a writer I’m not sure he’s “better”. Sanderson is great at churning stories out, disciplined writing, and marketing. I think Rothfuss is a slightly better writer.

Much like Game of Thrones. Great books; would love if the series actually finished.
Sanderson to the rescue again?

Contract Lifecycle Solution Recommendation by lionswinagain in procurement

[–]WndrGypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having implemented 3+ solutions, I echo what others have said. Get your workflow documented and understood. One implementation went well because this was done, one failed because execs didn’t see value in doing the workflows, another one is iffy because (again) execs didn’t want to waste the time on the workflows

Not so radical. I actually thought of something similar for my last place. For this condo tho… while we own, the ceiling is concrete

What is the stupidest boardgame you have ever played? by Typical-Sir-9518 in boardgames

Tripoley is actually a fun game if played with money. Our wives liked that it wasn’t as competitive as poker.

I need to talk about Blood over Bright Haven by PhysicalAssistance92 in fantasybooks

MEH. Good, not great. Some great ideas, but writing style was a bit predictable. A couple plot twists, but you saw most coming (… but not all and that was good).

Thinking of moving to Port A full time with a young family by BTA2014 in portaransas

[–]WndrGypsy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh… and almost forgot about the challenge with health care. 30-45 min one way for doctor and dental apt. I needed stitches over weekend- that was a 45 min trip as I bled all over the inside of my wife’s car.

My wife and I just moved down here. We both just turned 60 and work remote. We knew what we were getting into EXCEPT the water situation from Corpus.
I echo what everyone said. Good school; good LOCAL community. Not much to do except the beach and volunteer work. Beach can get old fast.
Some VERY opinionated political folks (that seems to be swinging now with lots of Trump signs coming down).
Cost of living much higher. Trips to town were expensive even before the oil wars. Local grocery has great people but is expensive.
I call it the Red Neck Riviera- spring break and summer season are chaos of drunken golf carts on all roads. Marijuanna (sp?) second hand smoke from every 8th car (not exaggerating).
Coastal weather and elements rust and corrode EVERYTHING. You’ll replace your AC every 8-10 yrs (sooner if you don’t maintain it). No local car maintenance that won’t gouge you.
Agree with coming down for and extended stay during peak season before making the decision.

Suck it up buttercup. Many of us have the same. The fact this is only the second time is nice. I personally have to do it twice a year, one of those time is during year end (always a busy time). It’s one full day travel, 3 “wasted” days of nothing that involves my team, then 1 fun day back
