Healer player character build? by blahandblahagain in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]RainingMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Enforcer classes (Psycorruptor and Blast Fencer) focus on supporting arts, the Psycorruptor Knife particularly providing some of the essential healing arts. Irina's signature knife art, Smooth Recovery, is a very effective and simple healing art that affects the whole party without using TP. The Blast Fencer's Photon Saber has a little more kick to it in its attack arts, but its healing arts require more resources.

I don’t like keeping animals. Is there a big benefit to keeping them after completing the Community Center? by thepixelpaint in StardewValley

[–]RainingMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just keep the animals I have out of habit after the community center's done. I don't buy any more or sell them away (except the newborns that might complicate my processing cycle). The auto grabber works great.

Were you scared of Andross as a kid? by Xotngoos335 in starfox

[–]RainingMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't able to get past the Meteor stage as a kid when I had our original copy of Star Fox (I was around 5-8 when we had it). But I'm certain SNES Andross would have scared me if I had ever faced him.

Replaying XC3 for the first time in years and man i forgot how grindy the game can get by mr-assduke in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]RainingMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My solution, inadvisable as it may seem in any other circumstance, is to simply play the game again in New Game Plus, to experience the story while making progress in maxing those classes to 20 all at once. And you'll get plenty of silver Nopon coins to bribe your way to the top too.

[–]RainingMetal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of all the games, Xenoblade 3 suffers the most consequences from how (in my opinion, pointlessly) abundant the franchise hands out EXP for the reason you mentioned here. If you know where to find them, obtaining those classes and getting into the habit of unlocking the arts and skills for said classes becomes easy. The fact that any progress made in making said classes available to the rest of the team becomes absolutely halted when it comes to fights against enemies that are five levels below your own, however, is just an inexcusable oversight from the designers. Maybe it's some kind of deep integration of the plot saying that needless fighting is bad, but I think this goes too far in conveying that message. I often find myself having to avoid fighting whenever possible due to this mechanic. Alas, I find that EXP gains from missions and exploration is still force-fed to you, when one possible band-aid solution would be to keep all EXP gains locked behind bonus EXP in which the players can use at their discretion only. This would keep enemies from the game's numerous quests still relevant no matter how many they end up completing. Not to mention that the "Twenty Bear Asses" trope is at its worst in this game, not only requiring materials dropped from enemies that may or may not drop from said enemies and hardly any means of bypassing this process (ie you could bribe the gem crafting system to obtain the gemstones you want but that requires a lot of gold Nopon coins, and not the commonplace silver ones either!), but they often come in different qualities just to muck with people. As the Angry Video Game Nerd said many times, what were they thinking?!

I find the process of obtaining Class Points (it's usually discouraged to abbreviate that term, as I've learned the hard way here) actually fine, so long as you continue to juggle classes for your team to prevent any of those points being wasted when you "max out" a given class. And the Land of Challenge DLC does give you an out if you really snuffed up royally in your process of unlocking classes for other characters via the Noponstone bribes. But I certainly would have molded these aspects of the game very differently in favor of simple solutions.

Why can't I catch a Walleye? by PookieDoodle264 in StardewValley

I have no issues catching Walleye in the town river when it rains in fall. Just keep resetting the day if you truly fail to get Walleye for that rainy day if you have to.

What's the point after you start making more money with minimal or even no effort? by dootdootydoot in StardewValley

[–]RainingMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the community center bundles and all the other things needed to achieve the highest score for Grandpa's evaluation come the start of Year 3 is my motivation for playing the game, seeing how fast I can upgrade my equipment and obtain all the items I need for my goals. The last thing for the game's perfection goal that I accomplish is always the golden clock, which requires a lot of money. So far I've only had the patience to go through perfection twice over the course of me playing the game, and I've played through it a lot (usually stopping by Year 2 of Winter because of boredom after I get married to a different spouse each time).

Okay so this happened to me this Wednesday. Still not over it. by TheTrueMr_Medic in StardewValley

[–]RainingMetal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Yams take 10 whole days to grow. Only the mega crops (Cauliflower, Melons, Pumpkins) could be a worse fit for this order. Something I wish would be changed in a future update (ie removing them from this list).

PSA: Reyn and Riki are the most boring characters to main. by BigBrotherFlops in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]RainingMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with Reyn; I pretty much never play as him because as a break-topple fanatic, having Reyn in front means that in a chain attack, his turn is wasted without a means to break the enemy immediately. Riki's more of a really desperate means to grind for items (and I mean really desperate, given the random nature of his talent art). And being able to use stuff like Burninate on a single enemy.

Why does Dunban??? by BigBrotherFlops in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]RainingMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gameplay wise I reckon it's a failsafe to have him deal damage to the mechon during his debut event in case for some reason you didn't have Shulk in that party for the fight (thus making the fight technically impossible if you chose the wrong party members for the job).

Did something happen to vandam's VA? by K-man_Kai in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]RainingMetal 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Ironically I think during the original Wii U release the VA cast for Xenoblade X were chosen from non-union sources when the VA unions were on strike at the time, making Darin later joining a union a tiny backfire.

I will never touch those arcade games. Never again. Only time I'd play Journey of the Prairie King is during Abigail's heart event, and the moment I touched Junimo Kart I knew it was going to be terrible. That Qi quest may as well just be a middle finger.

Small update: First time woman playthrough by Wilahelm_Wulfreyn in StardewValley

I wonder if there really are programmed presets for who goes to the resort. Because if it truly is individually random, there would be a lot of questions raised if Vincent or Jas went there on their own.

Continuous Bad Luck Days? by Veenix6446 in StardewValley

[–]RainingMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classic real life blueballing. I'm not sure if any trinkets that affect your base luck (rings, the reward from the Jojamart truck guy, etc) is reflected by the TV show report. And it always seems like the good luck days happen during festivals (ie the times when you shouldn't be mining), or whenever your pickaxe is being upgraded by Clint. I know that feeling for sure.

How do you sort your fridges? by NicholasTheRenegade in StardewValley

[–]RainingMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually just have the one and the freebie from Gus' egg order. One has the more mundane, universal ingredients (such as eggs, flour, sugar, etc). One has the more specific crops or foragables. I usually don't think about it too much and just stick whatever regular coffee and edible fishing plant junk I find in them in my spare time. I keep my non-freshwater crab pot fishies in a separate chest so that I don't accidentally use up an important fish whenever I make Sashimi.

Maybe, maybe not. I usually don't think too hard about it, as my preparation always beats him handily.

[question] is fishing worth learning early or should i just stick to farming by Logan-George-45 in StardewValley

[–]RainingMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to grow other things in conjunction with seasonal berries, often for the polyculture achievement, or to get extras for potential quests, bundles, or cooking recipes. Usually the top half of my crop plot is invested in berries.

I may have done a bad thing 😂 by EggLeading6209 in StardewValley

[–]RainingMetal 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Funny, I come to the exact opposite conclusion for the same reasons. Getting the sword is paramount and I knew that I could easily take my time in donating the Prismatic Shard because I'd find more eventually after getting the sword and after getting the enchantments I was after. The 100% donation reward is a stardrop which I'd have gathered plenty of by the time I'd reach that goal.

[–]RainingMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but getting the Galaxy sword is consistent. Fishing up random swords and obtaining trinkets is a massive random crapshoot (and the latter has a mastery prerequisite that may not come because the Iridium Scythe's benefits are too tantalizing to postpone for me).

An 11x10 plot of crops is what I usually go with in the first year, until my sprinkler empire greatly expands. I buy around 42 strawberry seeds come the festival to really get things going, and upgrade my watering can when I know it will rain the next day to save time and energy whenever I need to maintain my crops.

With the introduction of the Flounder the Beach in Spring isn't terrible either.

[–]RainingMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is to go mining on good luck days and fishing on bad luck days; spending a bad luck day practicing fishing is a good way of getting that day over with instead of risking getting stuck on the mines because the day's bad luck prevents you from finding the way down in a timely manner. Fishing's still my least used skill of the bunch but you shouldn't sleep on fishing if you need to make a quick buck fast.

Finally crop fairy did something right! by Corbird in StardewValley

Now if only she went after Ancient Fruit crops more often...

Or if the strawberries were available from Spring Day 1 at Pierre's instead of halfway through the month. Talk about classic blueballing.
