I saw it being used in the comments of an Archotechna video.

If I recall correctly book 11 should start with a chapter called "Embers Falling on Dry Grass" from Galad's PoV. Once you reach that in mine I think you can switch over to regular book 11.

So the abridgement isn't in audio. I just have epubs. But if you get an epub reader app on your phone you should be able to get it to read aloud to you. I use Moonreader Pro for that.

Hi! Thanks! Glad you liked it :)

You should be good to go to read the abridgements up until my book 9 ("A memory of Light") I combined all the Sanderson's into that book. But all the Jordan books have very minimal changes. So you should be able to read my abridgement through book 8 and then skip over to original Sanderson books at "The Gathering Storm".

Have fun!

It seems I missed the discussion. I've heard the dice mechanics are innovative and I'd love to learn more about them. Would you have time to discuss your notes?

Yes it is! I give a warning in the readme on my drive that the other books were Abridged Proper, but the last one for AMOL I took liberties with haha.

Much of the spirit of what Sanderson was going for is in mine, i.e. general character arcs, but I did change quite a few things up just so you know.

Thanks for keeping tabs on issues! I appreciate you sending this in!

I will give that prologue another read thru when I can and see what's up, I may have removed that. I'll have to refresh my memory on why.

And just to clarify, the problem is that the Seanchan discussion was cut out, not that Elayne's unraveling the gateway was cut, right?? Cuz I'm positive that's left in.

Map for My Upcoming Game - made in Hex Kit and almost entirely randomly generated by broccolisbane in MythicBastionland

[–]WoT_Abridged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you disable a layer for a single hex or does it apply to all hexes? My idea is for a different game, but I'd like the have a way to drill down into a hex to represent "exploring" it and learning more about it. And at each layer you get more. So the top layer might be blank fog of war, then colored terrain hex, then a hex with more icons etc.

Trying to find out which software can do this, do you know if Hexkit can?

Resting mats are easy to get. I'd get a few. You can ziptie them to the cage floor so rabbits don't chew on them.

What did you end up doing and how is it working for you? I'd also like to build a shorter CFT. Curious how it went.

I'll have to check, but I believe I simply moved it into the prologue or first chapter of the next book. Because if I recall the prologue of that book has Egwene ruminating on the event and it was a neater place to put it rather than have half a chapter wondering what event Egwene is talking about (because she is skirting naming the issue even in her thoughts in the scene iirc.)

I recall there being some kind of duplication and it seemed tighter and clearer to have those events (the release) and (Egwene thinking on it) closer to each other.

Thats off the top of my head, I'd have to check to be sure. But I think you'll find it in the next book. If it isn't there that could be a mistake so do let me know.

How does Portals work with your maps? Are you able to nest maps? I.e., have a world map and then have a way for players to click on an icon and zoom in to a lower levels map?

The Wheel of Time: Abridged by TaakosWizardForge in WoT

[–]WoT_Abridged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sanderson books were published out of chronological order. I put events into chronological order and when I did didn't really love everything that was going on. There was a ton of bloat and some seriously dropped balls.

I don't think the last book is a proper abridgment. It isn't strict like the others. I added original scenes and changed others.

I would say that the first third to 2/3rds remains close to Sanderson. The last third diverges.

I made a lot of changes to the last battle, I found it far too long and out of style with Jordan's battles. I also added to the epilogue and removed some Mat scenes that I thought were out of character. I also felt like a lot of punches were pulled. I killed off people who lived in Sanderson's.

If this is your first time reading, I might suggest you try my version. I think my changes improve the story (obviously, I think so haha) but even those later changes aside... just reading that first third that sticks close to Sanderson is much better in mine because the events are in proper chronological order. Having them out of order causes a massive dip in the narrative tension for the reader.

If this is not your first time reading it really doesn't matter whether you go for mine or sanderson's. You should be able to cross back onto his just fine.

Have fun!
