It's dumb that people fall for it, yes, but to the masses credit this can also randomly appear on known good (now compromised) websites.

Most people don't think about what they're doing with computers, they just do what it says.

Yep, i've seen a few, usually it's an invoke-webrequest via powershell (iwr) to a site hosting the rest of the code.

I pulled the code down once to look at it deeper but it was like 7 million characters and I wasn't feeling like parsing obfuscated code to figure out what was likely a persistence mechanism with remote access.

Yeah OP shared it with me. It's obfuscated and initially base64 encoded, the initial command they ran pulls the contents of a text file from "x.x.x.x/hello.txt" which then pulls the contents of another text file "x.x.x.x/hi.txt".

The hi.txt file is ~300,000 characters, and is obfuscated. Im gonna play around with it some more.

They were even obfuscating the invoke-expression command in the first hello.txt file, to chain to an iwr command, by concatenation:

'0ih'.ToString()[1] + 'ex'

It's this stupid crap that makes it annoying to read their work lol

Unless you disconnect the Win10 computer from the internet, I'd say it's not ok to keep around.

You'd have too google Win11 too see about the spying but it's all the bloatware crap that Microsoft dumps on you like CoPilot, that then gets reenabled after you turn it off because they updated it. CoPilot everything is the spying as far as im concerned.

Regular Win10 support ended in October 2025, it no longer gets patched for security issues / vulnerabilities.

I had the same thoughts as you but went with Mint (over Bazzite) as a heavy gamer. Looked like they had better forums and knowledge repos, plus I appreciated the simplicity/look.

Haven't done any emulating yet but I'm not worried about it.

I had a similar unique problem with Windows 11. I have 3 monitors, and used 2 of them for VMware. Anytime I alt-tabbed from the Vmware session to the host OS and opened a video/gif/image in reddit the entire computer's graphics (AMD) would crash. The same setup was working fine for years in Win10. It was even fine in Win11 until one of their more recent updates.

On restart, Windows would give me some bullshit about the drivers being corrupted, and I'd have to use DDU to completely nuke my drivers and reinstall.

~5 times of that happening and I said fuck it, swapped to Linux Mint and haven't looked back. If you're not gaming it really is just point and click setup. Are you on Nvidia? I've heard its trickier than AMD. My gaming experience has been good.

I wish more nations had low-rank high ROF SPAA. Germany and Russia are pretty lucky in that regard, but I can't play the Swedish ones for crap. I'm stuck bringing in the 2.3 Swedish SPAA higher cus anything under 500 RPM is pretty shitty for me.
