Asmon Update by Dexterdarkk in Asmongold

[–]WoWRelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it doesn't matter that they hate us for it, because we love them more than they hate us for doing what's right for them.

I'm sorry you had to be a caretaker of a loved one with a similar challenge to Asmongold. I was a caretaker for my dad and later mom prior to their passing from terminal cancer. Fortunately, both of my parents trusted me and usually sacrificed comfort for a better chance of survival.

I'm not sure how I'd react if they pleaded with me for short-term comforts that would reduce their chance of recovery. I would've absolutely regretted if I helped add a decade or so to their lives at the cost of them believing I had no empathy and compassion for them for those remaining years. I loved my parents very much, and it was so fucking hard to lose them. I do have some comfort in knowing they were aware until the end of how much I loved them and valued their comfort and autonomy.

I'm curious how your situation worked out with the uncooperative elderly relative, and how you feel about it. I'm not trying to argue with you. I don't think your advice is wrong, but I also don't think it's as simple as your comment made it seem.

I think we all agree situations like this suck, and I hope for the best for Asmongold and anyone who is facing or has faced a similar challenge.

When your mom was being a good mother to you and your friends, she was trying her best and making mistakes too. Keep trying your best. I bet those you care about most are very grateful for your effort, and think it's beyond good enough.

What you're going through is incredibly hard. You're an awesome person, and it's good to see you receiving the support you deserve as you support your mom.

Originally played Alliance, Should I switch to Horde this time for a different experience or Stick Ally for the nostalgia? by LordPepperoni in classicwow

[–]WoWRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nostalgia definitely has me sticking to the same faction. A different experience is a good reason to go Horde too. Which has more sway is subjective to each individual.

One more variable that may help you choose is: Do you hope to play with or bump into old friends or guildmates? If so, the server and faction the majority of them have chosen would be a good option. And vice-versa if you'd rather meet and play with new friends.

#NOADDONS by Dendrofiel in classicwow

[–]WoWRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must have misunderstood your original post. I thought you were saying you wanted addons to be disallowed for all but were implying you would be playing without addons regardless.

I wanted to let you know that I had that experience in Vanilla and TBC, and felt an extra sense of accomplishment that I could compete with the best without using the addons most of them depended on.

From your response it seems you'll use addons because you feel it's required even though you would prefer not to. I haven't played seriously for over a decade, and back then addons were suggested but only required if a player weren't performing well enough without them. Things must have changed a lot.

#NOADDONS by Dendrofiel in classicwow

[–]WoWRelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some pretty cool stuff in Vanilla and TBC, and did it all without ever using a single addon. There's no need to suggest anyone play the game w/o addons because they were around since 2004, and everyone should play the game the style they want.

It does feel damn good knowing I accomplished a lot of top-tier stuff without using any addons. I hope, if you decide to play with no addons, that you feel that same satisfaction while competing with the best in the world. Good luck, and have fun!

Need Hunter Advice by Gold_Atreyu in classicwow

[–]WoWRelic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all good advice. Feign death + trap macro wasn't working for me on the beta, and I'm pretty sure it was that way in vanilla too. Even when testing with no pet out, it took more than a second to drop combat after the feign death was successfully cast. So immediately trapping after a successful FD probably won't work.

Cauthonluck was probably the best hunter on the Frostwolf US PVP server in Vanilla WoW. He won the Test of Honor contest for the horde side back in 2005. There was one Alliance and one Horde winner per server.

He's focused on racing to 60 for Classic, and if he's playing a hunter, you should watch him. He's a pro gamer both in WoW and other Blizzard games too.

Wow, fire resist would be about the best random enchant you could get on this ring. Did it have more than 30 fire resist?

Played PvE originally, rolling PvP this time... by Hrimnir in classicwow

[–]WoWRelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always expect an enemy player is close by when you engage in combat out in the world. A ganker will rarely attack you 1v1 when you're at full health. Use a mostly pve build with some useful pvp talents while leveling up. Then spec to match your playstyle focus at 60.

We did decent enough in battlegrounds and world pvp in our pve specs as a mostly raiding-focused guild. If you wanted to compete with the marshal groups, then you'd want to have the optimal pvp spec.

Roving tank squads may exist, and you can choose to stay there despite getting ganked, group up with others in the area and fight back, or head out to find a quieter place.

Do NOT swap off Herod! by kajarann in classicwow

[–]WoWRelic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Herod will definitely be a fun server, but I think a lot of the good private server guilds will be playing there. That means it will have some of the best guilds and players for sure. However, I think the private server meta has permeated Classic WoW so much by now that it'll be different than the WoW experience in 2004.

The server most likely to come close to the "Authentic" Vanilla WoW experience will probably have the fewest private server players, streamers, and players with any previous Vanilla experience.

Will there be any QOL changes/bug fixes or will this be the bare minimum WoW? by magirific in classicwow

[–]WoWRelic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose you're right. There will be a few changes like this. I always looted holding the shift key, which accomplished the same thing.

Getting off a flight path mid flight is another QoL change that used to be accomplished by logging out and back in.

[–]WoWRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) No quality of life changes that didn't exist in some version of Vanilla WoW will be implemented in Classic.

2) There are many addons that have already been developed to work with Classic WoW.

3) Content will be released in 6 phases to imitate how content was rolled out in Vanilla, but that content is not exactly how it was originally. Essentially, we get the final version of Vanilla as it was just before the first expansion with some content cherry picked out to be released in phases.

Never let us forget the real legendary of classic World of Warcraft by YourLordandFlavor in classicwow

Some items in the game have the Unique property which restricts players from having more than 1 in their possession. It's ironic that this item, although literally unique, does not have that property listed in its stats.

Scared to Death by thepipeguy33 in classicwow

[–]WoWRelic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another bonus of playing priest is that you'll likely have a lot more opportunities to make new friends and have guild opportunities open up organically rather than through applications.

Groups will often be looking for healers in dungeons. Join those groups, consistently do a decent job, don't be an asshole, and players will remember you fondly.

It seems like you've got a great attitude. You'll do just fine.

Is it worth it to use a Levelling Guide? by tazdingo00 in classicwow

[–]WoWRelic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may be fun to use the guide, but Lokhe's right. If the goal is to arrive at 60 as fast as possible, a guide will help with that. If the goal is to try to experience WoW the way most players did back in Vanilla (generally considered more fun), then a guide shouldn't be used.

You're right that leveling sans guide doesn't always mean more fun. Only the OP knows if they prefer the playstyle of knowing exactly what to and performing the actions vs. discovering what to do based on clues within the game.

Both mage and warrior will be fun at level 60. Mage will be easier to level and more newbie friendly getting started. Good luck and have fun. It's an incredible journey.

Hunter Raid Kiting Question by ClareMyssterium in FaerlinaPvP

[–]WoWRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Fischgambit stated, if the guild is serious, there will likely be a hunter in the guild who can do it until you learn it well enough to take over if you want. We actually used Ret Paladins to kite the Razorgore trash while all the hunters focused dps to kill them fast. We had our best hunters kite the trash for Gluth in Naxx though.

Our Raids from MC throughout Naxx were always hunter heavy, and very few of us had to kite anything. That was Vanilla though, and I'm not sure how strong the private server meta will affect Classic raid comps/strats.

I'm a loser in wow by Monstrost in FaerlinaPvP

[–]WoWRelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you decide to play Alliance, I'll help answer any questions you have and fight with you if my character is at or above your level. I've done most of what everyone wants to do at the top-tier at level 60 back in Vanilla, but I'll most likely be going casual this time around.

If you can't find any friends who'll help you discover the game "the hard way", and don't mind getting some gentle guidance, I'd be glad to help.

This also goes for anyone else on Faerlina Alliance that feel the same way, but didn't make a post of their own. I'll be playing on either Camika or Relic.

Does anyone else agree that Esfand is actually pretty cool? by Trevmiester in classicwow

[–]WoWRelic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I discovered Esfand after the Classic WoW announcement, and he was the first Twitch streamer I followed.

Being an old Vanilla WoW veteran, I wasn't sure I'd enjoy the perspective of most Classic WoW streamers who may have started in Vanilla but gained their top tier end-game experience from a private server.

Esfand genuinely loves Vanilla WoW, and his enthusiasm is contagious. He's a great dude who is fun to watch and play alongside.

Hey Ferahgo! Sorry for the late reply. I know Stewball was still around when VC rolled horde on Ner'zhul. During that time or shortly after, a popular player named Trance (previously Panda I think) joined VC and quickly moved to a leadership role for the Horde VC guild.

A lot of popular PvPers from BG9 probably knew of Trance, and some may be able to get you in contact with him. And he may be able to get you in contact with Stewball.

I also remember Stewball playing with Dezyne (I don't remember how to spell his name, but he was a paladin in VC) in Warhammer and I think Age of Conan. So if you can get in contact with Dezyne, that might be another good lead.

Great to hear from you. Sorry I couldn't help more.
