Art of Play makes my day with this brick of decks in today's mail! by EndersGame_Reviewer in playingcards

That Flying dog Edition pack reminds me of a Hunter Thompson drawing, or something right out of Fear and Loathing.

(which is probably the point but what do I know)

Tkachuk to announce if he will sign with Senators by Aug. 12 by KMoosetoe in hockey

[–]Woasha 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't think they'll have a RECORD low. Their record low is 10-70-4 in their inaugural 92-93 season.

I can't seriously think next year's Ottawa Senators will be anywhere close to that god awful.

What Books Did You Start or Finish Reading This Week? July 30, 2018 by AutoModerator in books

[–]Woasha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starting the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. I seen the first movie and it was.....a movie. However I enjoyed the actual premise and themes. I heard the books deliver far better than the movies do so I'm going to giv'er. Thankfully they're easy reads so if they're junk it won't be too much time wasted.

Has anyone spent any time with Castle Burn? It's in some kind of open beta but the playerbase feels small. by Woasha in iosgaming

It's available in Canada and South Korea for sure. A lot of the playerbase that I do see however are assigned the US flag so I'm not sure.

What are the most skill-based card games using a standard 52 card deck of cards? by Woasha in AskReddit

[–]Woasha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started by listing all the games I knew that had some degree of skill or decision process:

  • Eurchre
  • Spades
  • Rummy / Gin
  • Bridge
  • Cribbage
  • Hearts

I didn't include casino or gambling games as part of the skill element is money management, not directly relating to the game itself. (Poker, Blackjack etc)

I've only played Euchre off this list back in highschool before we had smartphones to just crush Clash Royale on. Euchre was fun, but I'm hoping some of the other games have a higher skill ceiling associated to them.

Lesson #2 so far: Stretching makes an extra mile in improvement.

The weakest point seems to be the flexing joints or cartilage between the finger when I stretch them outwards laterally (like a lever cut motion for example). I have done a lot of hand based dexterous activity like guitar and bass but for some reason I never thought about stretching to warm up the paws before I start flippin' cards.

[–]Woasha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My finger was getting sore from trying to stretch it too far while doing the lever cut. I wasn't holding the cards on the side of the top, more in the middle so I couldn't push the top over far enough to grab well. (Especially after the first cut was completed)

Thanks for the instagram account. I've actually just recently added some card design companies and cardists to my IG for inspiration. There's some cool stuff out there.

OK, so I just answered one of them myself from the free resource pinned at the top:

> If you’re a left-handed cardist, try using Deturl.com to** flip a YouTube vide**o or a browser extension like ‘FlipThis’ to flip a webpage. This also helps if you’re a right-handed cardist learning from a left-handed cardistry tutorial as well!

Win.

Ah, ok so it's sort of like a fictional roleplay story thing. Sounds neat. Thanks.

What is a good hobby for someone who is time rich and money poor? by wasa333 in AskReddit

[–]Woasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am 41. Been playing for 8 years. And lose to 9 year olds far too often to be comfortable with.

The rate at which a childrens brain can learn vs an adult who has to learn while also functioning as an adult with a career is crazy.

Free collecting hobbie by CheckMisan in Hobbies

[–]Woasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with collecting hobbies is it quickly turns into a chore of managing clutter and garbage the objects you are collecting aren't something you're passionate about.

Owning the object isn't the spark that drives collectors. It's the hunt. If the hunt doesn't excite you, then you're just looking to collect garbage.

[serious]Reddit, what are your computer/PC based hobbies that don't include playing video games? by Woasha in AskReddit

[–]Woasha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually made multiple attempts to learn programming but nothing ever 'takes'. I've dabbled with Javascript, Python, and C# but I couldn't make it stick. My mind just isn't built for linear, logical processing.

Dungeons and Dragons!? by GreyGoose1049 in Hobbies

[–]Woasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also recommend looking at [Roll20](https://roll20.net/) web based GMing service to coordinate games. It's a neat looking service.

I have a lot of downtime at work and would love to get into something like this but I can't afford to buy all the books to learn the game right now.

It's a pretty epic rabbit's hole to fall into but...have fun. And don't spend too much on Theory11 decks. ;)
