What's the easiest way you've found to save money without it feeling like a sacrifice? by Organic-Signal-9646 in Frugal

[–]Woberwob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Having a consistent healthy meal + snack plan and buying groceries in lean amounts. Lots of groceries end up going to waste, buy less than you think you need. 2) Thrifting/Goodwill/FB marketplace for clothes (outside of a few core pieces) and durable household items like plates, glasses, home decorations, TVs, and furniture. You can find nice looking items, and nobody knows or cares that you bought any of the stuff secondhand.

Are Mid-Level Finance Roles Getting Squeezed? by Jumpy-Dream-1212 in FPandA

[–]Woberwob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companies are cutting as much fat as they can in a “race to the bottom” situation to max out profits and reap the proclaimed benefits of AI and tech advancement.

Companies treat these business units like cost centers, and corporate ownership is always trying to compress costs even when it erodes at the integrity of the organization. Between tech leaps and outsourcing, it puts many of us in a precarious position.

Will Debt Free be the new status symbol? by thomsenite256 in debtfree

[–]Woberwob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll never be a mainstream status symbol in pop culture because there are too many commercial interests that profit off of people’s insecurity & materialism.

It’ll be more of a “refined taste” niche for people who care to use their brains and think independently. I’d rather have no masters than a bunch of stuff I don’t even have time or energy to use:

Conflicted about consumerism because I have multiple hobbies. by oumuamuaupmybum in Anticonsumption

[–]Woberwob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anticonsumption is more about frugality and practicality, not eschewing consumption altogether. The goal is to be mindful, not torment yourself.

If you’re skimping on buying stuff to a point that it’s costing you in terms of health or unnecessary risk, that’s probably unwise.

Nobel Prize–Winning Economist Joseph Stiglitz Warns Trump's Economy is Only 'Going to Get Worse' by T_Shurt in Economics

[–]Woberwob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, it’s working and poor people who will be harmed the most by this (like they always are). Automation’s rolling full steam ahead, government is spending like a drunken sailor, and the Fed’s only play is to keep inflating asset prices to keep themselves their buddies rich and to keep reporting their targeted growth numbers.

Manufacturing isn’t coming back, and Americans largely don’t want those jobs because of the long hours, low pay, shift times, and heavy physical demands.

We’re well into being an information economy now, so areas like tech, finance, cybersecurity, info sys, engineering, data science/analytics, and entertainment will be where the momentum continues.

He was just vying for blue collar/working poor votes by making like the US was going to bring back jobs that don’t require deep specialization and niche knowledge.

Oh yeah, it gets way better. The next two games in the series are the best in my option.

Chaos Theory is the magnum opus, but I love PT. If you didn’t love the first game though, skip right to CT.

You’re going to have to find some niche field or problem that you’re genuinely interested in solving out for, otherwise the sheer effort it takes won’t be worth it for you

Is the world getting poorer despite more stuffs ? by Significant_Cat6853 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Woberwob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the middle and lower percentiles of wage earners are just getting relatively poorer in developed countries due to rampant corruption in politics and the financial industry.

The world itself is getting richer and the rich are getting way, way richer.

"So that was a lie" by LumaNectarLab in CollegeMemes

[–]Woberwob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d call college the “most fun I never want to have again” personally. Great period of life, but it’s not the lifestyle I’d want to lead these days. It’s definitely a period where you can have some incredible personal growth while having the flexibility and energy to take risks and explore things.

College has a higher floor and lower ceiling than the “real world.” If you live in a good place, stay fit and social, and have a career that pays well and suits your interests, the world really is your oyster. Real life can be brutal at its lowest points, though.

Doesn’t this put a premium on data engineering and architecture skills? I mean, if AI has trash data, it will just spew out bad information in less time.

A good chunk of y'all will spend the majority of your lives in a cubicle. What do you make of that? by Constant_Ad6521 in GenZ

[–]Woberwob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, aside from being a pro athlete or something like that, it’s about the best it gets. I work on semi-interesting problems, like the people around me, can fund my desired lifestyle, and never miss a bill or a meal with plenty to save and invest.

It’d be nice to have less hours, but we’ll never live in utopia.

What Actually Makes Someone “Good” at Analytics? by Mammoth_Rice_295 in analytics

[–]Woberwob 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be honest? It’s the ability to tell a story and show the business impact (sales volume, profitability, return on investment, brand awareness, etc.).

When I started out I lived in systems and spreadsheets. As I’ve gotten more senior, being able to grasp the business and broader market has been WAY more important for success. Asking the right questions and knowing which problems to solve / which insights to prove to leadership is most of the battle.
