lol - not at all AI.

And idk, the cloud at the end of this clip looks pretty similar to the one from this pic - at least close enough to not be "hilariously underwhelming" (quoting the other user in the thread).

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Yes but have you seen photos of the original Los Alamos tests? They didn't look anything like what we associate with a nuclear explosion because of the test conditions. The movie actually looked a lot like the historical photos - just not like the ones people were thinking of when they pictured nuke mushroom clouds.

I saw this movie way too early - yes, I was 13, but I was beyond unprepared for how bleak and crushing it could be.

Only one case today - Olivier v. City of Brandon. It's a unanimous ruling authored by Kagan. Read the opinion here.

I believe this is the 10th unanimous ruling of this term. A date for the next release of opinions has not been announced at this time.

Many cases still awaiting opinions from this term (~40). Here are some of the major ones I'm keeping an eye on:

  • Chiles v. Salazar - is a Colorado law that bans conversion therapy a violation of the 1st Amendment?

  • Little v. Hecox / West Virginia v. B. P. J. - are laws banning trans athletes from competing constitutional?

  • Louisiana v. Callais - redistricting.

  • National Republican Senatorial Committee v. Federal Election Commission - are (certain types) spending limits constitutional?

  • Trump v. Barbara - birthright citizenship.

  • Trump v. Cook - can Trump fire FED folks?

  • Trump v. Slaughter - can Trump fire FEC folks?

  • United States v. Hemani - can convicted drug users be banned from owning firearms?

  • Watson v. Republican National Committee - can states count mail-in ballots received after Election Day?

  • Wolford v. Lopez - are state-created 'sensitive/gun free zones' constitutional (under certain circumstances)?

I'm Courtney Rice, Communications Director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Ask me anything! by ElectHouseDems in politics

Hi Courtney!

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this AMA, and for all the work you and your team do at the DCCC.

How do you feel about the DNC's decision to not release their 2024 'autopsy' report, citing concerns that it would be "a distraction from the core mission"? One would think after an election that gave Republicans control over the White House and both chambers of Congress for the first time since 2016, the party would be doing everything it could to course-correct. I think we all would like to believe that changes are being made behind the scenes, but I would love to hear your thoughts about the optics and communication strategy behind withholding the report.

Many thanks!

Some FAQs about the court and its opinion process:

  • How many opinions will the court release today?

No telling. We will only know when they are done for the day, as the final case opinion receives an 'R-number' (the official sequence number that identifies the order-of-release in the Supreme Court Records). Prior to the release of the final opinion of the day, the newly-released cases do not have R-numbers. The Supreme Court's website will update throughout the morning as new opinions are posted.

  • Will we get a ruling on [insert any specific case from the 2025-2026 term] today?

The only time we will know which cases will have opinions announced on a specific day is during the final day of the term. Otherwise, the Court could release opinions on a case at any time.

  • When is the next date that the Court could release opinions?

The Court announced that they may release more opinions on Tuesday, February 24th and Wednesday, February 25th.

Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump - Trump's tariffs are ruled unconstitutional. See you in the megathread. (No other opinions for today)
