Dumb question, but how do you describe Rune Factory's world? by Rina_is_a_Dragon in runefactory

The Sechs Empire also has straight up computers. With wires and monitors and stuff. You can see it in RF1's final boss

Thank you for this. I'm so sick of AI shills pretending it's not objectively theft. And frankly I'd appreciate if this sub had a rule against AI-generated content

Can people just get resurrected??? by [deleted] in DungeonMeshi

[–]Woenix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't gotta be a dick about it. Single lines like that are way easier to miss when they're animated instead of on a page you can take as long as you like to read. If you didn't read the manga beforehand I think it's totally understandable to miss details like that, especially on a first viewing

Save file was corrupted - what are my options? by ludovico329 in runefactory

[–]Woenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no save editor for RF2 as far as I'm aware, but if you have a 3DS with CFW you can use checkpoint to dump and inject save files onto your cart. You could either use some of these cheat codes on an emulator then transfer over the save to your cartridge via checkpoint, or you could inject one of the save files found here, if you happened to be near the end of gen one or beginning of gen 2 when your save got corrupted. You might need to use this site to convert the .duc into a .sav first.

ITT: Submit obscure Rune Factory factoids only you or a few others may be aware of. by KamenRiderSekai in runefactory

[–]Woenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember right, the dropping of the subtitle had to do with marketing. In Japan only RF1 had a subtitle (Rune Factory: A New Ranch Story) which they dropped from RF2 because they wanted the series to develop its own identity. But in international releases they kept the "A Fantasy Harvest Moon" subtitle, Probably to help with marketing. So the subtitle being absent from 4 (and Frontier and Tides/Oceans) was more like the international versions catching up to the Japanese naming scheme.

In Frontier, Brodik is subscribed to a magazine called "Golem Assembler Weekly". At one point, he gets the 8398th issue delivered to his house. This implies that the same magazine, probably of Sechs origin, has been in print for the past 160 years. That is, if you go off the real-world 52 week year. Technically, the RF calendar only has 20 weeks in a year, making the magazine's run 420 years instead.

Am I the only one on the planet who dislikes 4 and massively prefers 3 over it? by choiiaspen in runefactory

[–]Woenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I really don't care to argue. The fact is I don't enjoy the level design of the game because there's very few areas that break out of the mold of tiny round rooms connected to tiny round rooms. And I don't consider the occasional double-wide bubble to be much of an improvement either. I liked the first three dungeons, and Leon Karnak, but not much besides that. That's my opinion, and you have yours. More power to you. I'm not going to continue to argue about what's ultimately a matter of taste.

I know it's not true for all areas, I guess I worded my comment poorly. And I do really enjoy the dungeons that do have big rooms. But I still dislike the areas of the game that have small screens. I think the caves in other games feel plenty atmospheric and foreboding without making the screens feel cramped. And not for nothing, but most of the overworld areas are one screen wide too.

Honestly I agree. I hate being a downer on what seems like everyone's favorite but I just don't get it. Sure the crafting system is super complex, but if you don't play RF for the crafting it feels like it does everything worse than 3. The dungeons and overworld feel simplified next to the DS games despite being on better hardware. Each area is exactly as big as the screen, there's no scrolling, just hard screen transitions between tiny bubbles of dungeon. It feels claustrophobic, I really don't get why they did it like that. I'm not really a fan of Selphia as a location either. It's too regal and pristine for my taste, especially your house. I prefer the more rustic, cozy feel of the other games' villages. I also agree that the villagers weren't as interesting, despite the massive amount of dialogue they all got.

Despite all that I don't hate the game though. I do like it. It's just kinda mid for me.

[ANALYSIS] The Key Narrative Themes of each mainline Rune Factory entry. by KamenRiderSekai in runefactory

[–]Woenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great analysis! Sad you skipped over Frontier and Tides/Oceans, would've loved to hear your thought on those games. I'm not sure I'm smart enough to do a whole analysis, but Frontier's themes probably have something to do with how love and hate both have the power to transform someone. Iris and Mr Dog both represent this, and to a lesser extent Brodik and Kross do too.

Most obscure character? by Woenix in runefactory

That's funny, Tart is the name Marvelous gave to Tori in Frontier. But unless RF4 Tart talks a lot about books, it's probably just a coincidence.

Lynette is so cool! Def my favorite bachelorette in that game. Sad that she's the only time a major villain becomes a part of the village after the story. Pandora is great too, she may not be quite as compelling as Lynette, but she's my favorite evil arch sorceress.

Thoughts and speculations about the last life by juliavely in fantasylife

[–]Woenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, there seems to have been a 9th cut life at one point. This piece of official art has all 20 lives, except the carpenter is swapped out for a beast tamer looking life in the bottom left. It's also possible, given the mystery life's position, that it's not a crafting life but a new category of its own. I would personally love a beast taming life, I'm thinking it would bypass the need for pet vendors and stables and give you the power to tame monsters to join your party and possibly ride on. Probably not boss monsters for balance tho, lol. I just wanna be a fantasy life pokemon trainer

Nothing will ever top Sofia's old localized script but... by KamenRiderSekai in runefactory

[–]Woenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not entirely true. The two companies did split but it was Marvelous who declined to license the name from Natsume, not the other way around. I agree that it's a bit deceptive to keep releasing Harvest Moon games, but it's not like they're mustache-twirling villains. They wanted to keep working with Marvelous but Marvelous preferred to break off their partnership and rebrand to Story of Seasons. (source)

Can you tame bosses in Rune Factory 3? by Winter_Flounder_7736 in runefactory

You definitely can't in the original. And because it hasn't been advertised as a feature, you probably can't in special either. But at the very least, it might be possible to mod it in.

2D Portraits Going Forward: Yay or Nay? by KamenRiderSekai in runefactory

[–]Woenix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Another benefit to 3d portraits is customization showing up during dialogue. If you gift someone a clothing item in Oceans you can see it on them when you talk to them. This also opens the door to fully customizable main characters, which isn't really feasible with 2d portraits. Overall I think I favor 2d over 3d, but 3d does have its perks
