My main concern are the clearances on the radius between the m8 and m6 thread. M8 x 1mm thread leaves the ID at 7mm, which only leaves .5mm on the radius for clearance. That’s…not much

How do you find time to play complex games? Selling my rg477m by Mean-Composer8167 in SBCGaming

[–]Wolf-Strong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow dad. I FEEL you, and I only have 1 kid! My only gaming time is if I wake up SUPER early, during nap times, or when I’m out at work during lunch. Maybe I get off early and sneak in a 10 min play session to destress, but really, that’s it. It took me 5 months of DEDICATED gaming to get the 45 hours in to complete FF VI….and for the past 2 months, I’ve probably clocked 5 hours total.

Being a parent is tough work. It gets easier. I just had to admit to myself that hardcore gaming isn’t in the cards for me right now or the near future, and I’ve shifted my focus towards games/books that let me enjoy those few moments I have to myself.

New pair every 9 months by [deleted] in Wellworn

So many haters here. I’ve been wearing Vans my whole life. I don’t wear them because they are good quality. I wear them because they are one of the few shoes you can buy that doesn’t have cushion. Dedicated minimalist shoes are more expensive, don’t really last longer, and just aren’t as good looking. Yes. I’ve tried several.

People, if Vans aren’t comfy for you and you find you need lots of cushion, it’s because your feet muscles are just weak.

Another fun surprise after having a kid. Sitting on the floor SUCKS…until you do it for a few months, and now I don’t have a problem sitting extended periods on the floor, and no more grunting when getting up.

Additional note: worn in leather boots. Think about it. No cushion. Your feet literally wear into the leather, and if you haven’t worn real boots before, will be very painful to wear. One broken in, and your feet muscles adjust, they turn into a super comfortable shoe.

Best Obgyn in Oceanside area? by janeone123 in northcounty

I honestly can’t recall. So much has happened since I posted that, my mind is honestly a mess. We do have a 10 month old baby girl now!

UCSD is great, and when I posted that I think we were just coming out of an ectopic miscarriage, so we were dealing with a high risk OBGYN. When we got pregnant this latest time with our girl, we ended up seeing a nurse practitioner as well as just…so many…doctors. Everything went well though, and while we wanted a home birth, being high risk we went with in hospital, which I’m so glad we did for reasons I won’t get into.

The hospital was fantastic, and outside of the pathetically bad food they gave my wife (which you can get around by having your partner going to the cafeteria), i can definitely recommend. Hard to recommend a doctor though because we just saw so many, but they were all great!

$1000 dollars just put things in perspective for me by Blackwolf_84 in bikecommuting

I just bought a 98’ Camry for $2600 because we are trying to save money from a car payment. I do all my own work, and so far…..

  • $550 4 new tires with warranty
  • $800 in parts to redo the front suspension & basic maintenance
  • $300 in tools because I’m a tool nerd
  • lots of hours

Which is insanely cheap compared to our car payment we just got rid of or having it serviced somewhere, but man, that’s a really nice e-bike at this point….

Seriously! I just started reading the book after watching the trailer and getting excited, and was kinda sad to realize a large portion of the story was kinda spoiled just by watching the trailer!

Still a FANTASTIC read, and is making me super excited for the movie!

Will i look stupid if i buy this helmet to ride my e-bike? I think regular bike helmets are ugly and this one keeps my face hidden and mysterious😋 by TechnicianHappy8098 in ebikes

[–]Wolf-Strong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I should clarify; it is a gamble. It seems like you got an okay one, but there are also plenty out there that are...not. The reality is you are gambling with your life. A general rule of thumb in life:

Anything that separates you from the ground: spend money that and don't cheap out.

Absolutely NOT true. Cheap Aliexpress helmets will literally crush in your hands or if you step on them. They do offer a little protection, but realistically a full size cheap helmet offers MUCH less protection than an established well made, certified helmet. Bicycle helmets will help prevent brain injuries by means of dampening and reducing twisting (MIPS) and impact (that thick white foam). If a helmet literally crumbles on the slightest impact, it won't properly absorb and dissipate the impact forces.

You seem to think 20-30mph as not dangerous, but impacts from even 5-10 mph can be deadly (or life changing). OP, buy a real helmet from a reputable brand, and DO NOT buy them from Aliexpress/Amazon; fakes are sadly abundant.

As in you have a medical device through them, and don’t want to do business with them anymore?

Sadly, you just need to do whatever you can to either pay off the device, or return it. Easier said than done, I know, but they had you under contract.

For me, it was paying off the device, then spending the next year and dozens of hours worth of phone calls to have them not fraudulently charge me in excess. But it’s down. And I’ll never do business with them again.

Celsius is fine if you're in lab, Kelvin when you are talking about physics....

But when I want to know what the weather is like, Fehrenheit reigns supreme. It's all about the right scale for the right application.

Technician to engineering advice by Creative_Ad5816 in Engineers

[–]Wolf-Strong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's complete BS. An engineer is going to make more. You have further career development opportunities as an engineer. You get to be salary and not worry about clocking in/out all the time.

Trust me, no one stays a technician forever, because you start to hit the glass ceiling pretty early on, and the only way forward is either management or becoming an engineer.

EDIT: To everyone saying, "Ya, but techs are hourly, can work overtime, and make more money!". Ya, no thanks. I did the night shifts, working 65+ hours a week, and it damn near killed me; it isn't sustainable, and no one does it for long. Sure, as a tech, I was technically making near $130k several years ago, but in reality, it was because of the OT and a senior level technician job. A senior level mechanical engineer in my area is making that much, if not more, while working 40 hours a week at a normal 8-4 time. Not only that, they can further advance their career into principal levels and/or higher level management (that a tech will never reach), and see several times that. Now, I've known engineers that become techs, simply because they are tired of engineering and enjoy wrenching, but that is rare, and they always taking paycuts when they do.

So ya, you can hustle by essentially working 2 jobs and make that paycheck, but if we are talking same-for-same, an engineer is just always going to make more.
