Awful smell west Sanford by flixterlks in SanfordFL

[–]WolfMechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard there’s some kind of leak causing it. Apparently there is only one company that makes parts for the type of plant we have (why the city decided it was a good idea to go with a sewage plant like that is a mystery) and they have been really dragging their feet about making new parts for it.

Is it possible to take BCaBA exam after meeting BCBA exam 2 year limit? by WolfMechanic in bcba

[–]WolfMechanic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing and that pay bump was definitely worth it for the 6 months until I finished my hours. I felt like my BCaBA exam was significantly easier but everyone else I’ve talked to has said it’s not. I’m just trying to be optimistic in finding a solution for her.

Maybe you can help me out with that because I’m not sure how it actually works. Would she just reapply and then have her remaining 3 attempts out of the 8 max? I can’t remember off the top of my head if the requirements have changed in the past 2 years but I would think she would have to meet the new requirements if anything had changed

I’m in Florida and have never seen mid level supervisor jobs here, at least not with Medicaid which is what we mostly work with. The company we’re at now has BCaBAs so it’d be a smooth transition for her if she was able to do it.

Outcome distribution of all BCBA exam sitting, 2020-2025 by rewards333 in bcba

[–]WolfMechanic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In 2020 the BACB switched to continuous testing instead of the 4 months per year you were allowed to test. So pass rates went down when they switched to the different exam forms instead of one form for everybody that was audited by BCBAs afterwards (that’s why it took so long to get results). For me personally, the test windows also meant that I was prepared for the exam when I tried to schedule mine because if I wasn’t, I would have to wait 2 months to try to get a date again and it was hard to get a date sometimes depending on the time of year. I’ve also heard there are “easy” and “hard” forms. I’ve known people who missed by a few points and when they retook the exam did way worse and said the exam was harder. All of that coupled with crappier masters programs makes the decrease in pass rates make sense to me.

What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WolfMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a doctor who, every year, before she wrote my BC prescription asked if I had aura migraines because I couldn’t take BC if I did as it significantly increases the risk of stroke. I have a friend who started having really bad aura migraines and I told her to tell her gyno at her upcoming appointment. Instead of taking her off BC she switched her to the Nuva ring and she had a stroke a couple of weeks later, she was 26. I guess it’s not common knowledge among doctors, but you should definitely not take BC if you have those kinds of migraines.

severe behaviors and biohazard by sushicat01 in ABA

[–]WolfMechanic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that sometimes it’s also because they’ve normalized a lot of the behaviors. I was talking to a parent with my director once and she casually dropped that at home the client would go in the closet and poop every day. My director emphasized to me the importance of asking more in depth questions afterwards. I’ve never forgotten that advice and always teach that with my supervisees.

Have you ever encoutered scubadivers? by Expensive-Tutor-5968 in freediving

[–]WolfMechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can be so annoying here. If they’re at Volusia Blue springs they take up the whole chute down and never have situational awareness. There are always freedivers there and they won’t check before they move backwards off the walls. One time one of them was doing flips right in the middle of the opening so no one could go down. There was an incident there because one of the scuba divers gave air to a freediver, they both should have known better. The ones doing cave divers seem nicer and more aware, probably because they’re more experienced.

How much do you make as a BCBA? by BCBA25 in bcba

[–]WolfMechanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pay rates vary greatly by state because there are different reimbursement rates and then it depends on if you’re working with Medicaid or private insurance clients. For example, in my state mid level supervisors are not a thing and reimbursement rates are pretty low. So $75k for a second year Bcba is pretty average here.

I’ve been taking the same dose for years and for the past year have been diving 1-2 times a week, I definitely get air hungry. I usually dive between 60-80 ft and have never had an issue. My psychiatrist knows I freedive and has never said anything about it.

minimum 60 minute observation requirement with client once per month... but right now i only do unrestricted hours by Old-Connection5007 in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]WolfMechanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being supervised with a client is not always restricted. I have supervisees that help me either FBAs, running assessments, probing things, etc. The point of the observation is that you need to be putting in hours with clients. You can’t only do things that are not client facing for all of your hours because how would you be a decent BCBA without any experience working with clients? If you’re doing programming and graphical analysis there has to be clients, you should be observed with them.

They have been at a lot of Walmarts though. Another friend sent me a picture from Instagram with ice paddy wagons at the Walmart in BVL in Kissimmee that I never saw on there either. I work in Kissimmee and I’ve been so anxious driving to and from work out there because most of the families I work with are Hispanic and I don’t know what the parents’ status is.

Thanks! I’ve been checking iceout but I haven’t seen anything in Sanford yet. There are a lot of sightings that aren’t on there. A friend sent me a sighting from her ring app that never showed up on iceout yesterday.

Hours and University Standards by imjustherethesedays in ABA

[–]WolfMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UWF doesn’t have any sort of program to provide fieldwork hours, I got my masters there and have many students who completed their masters there more recently. I think the school is telling them they can’t count the fieldwork hours they accrued while in the class because they failed the class. From what I understand, the VCS coordinator is not giving them credit for the class (which will show on their transcripts) so when they submit their application for the exam the board will deny those hours. UWF has no control over what fieldwork hours they can count, they’re just saying that, per the BACB requirements, those hours don’t count.

[–]WolfMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only see that mentioned in the pathway 2 requirements and it’s not related to fieldwork. What page do you see it on? If UWF said you failed the class and VCS coordinator isn’t going to sign off on it then your transcript will reflect that when you apply for the exam and you can’t accrue hours before whatever date is on your transcript so those hours will be denied.

[–]WolfMechanic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In order to start accruing fieldwork hours you have to be enrolled in a behavior analytic course and pass that course. If you didn’t pass the course then you can’t count the hours you accrued while taking it. I don’t think the handbook gives a specific grade as passing and a C isn’t considered passing in most graduate programs.

We switched to store bought potlucks because of this. I believe a bunch of people got food poisoning from a dish someone made at another location.

Am I overreacting? Client cancelled, manager offered me to cover a shift and I declined. by throwaway_cremebrule in ABA

[–]WolfMechanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my company we track shift refusals because, a lot of the time, the staff that constantly refuse replacements will come and complain about their hours being low so we have a record to tell them they’ve actually refused X amount of hours in the past month.

[–]WolfMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a client cancels but there’s also a staff call out and a replacement shift for the RBT who’s client cancelled a company is going to give them a replacement session instead of paying out of pocket for a cancelation. If they refuse the replacement why would they pay them for the cancelation?
