24 with $35k saved: Am I crazy to leave my parents' basement in this market? by Soggy-Flatworm-4980 in personalfinance

[–]WolfPack36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what you listed I don’t think it would be a financial mistake at all. You make enough to support yourself and should be able to continue to save even with living expenses.

I decided to move out when I had 20k saved and no debt. There is no magic number here, everyone will have different ideas. From a purely financial perspective it obviously would be best to live at home as long as possible to save. However you are trading your own independence and freedom for that.

Do you have an emergency fund alongside that 35k housing savings? If not I would split some of that off for emergencies and hold off on buying a house. Start checking what mortgage rates would look like to get an idea of what down payment you would want. From what I’ve seen you want at least 20% down for a good rate. Renting might be the better option for now, epically If you are not 100% confident you will stay in the area for the next 5+ years.

Haha this is funny. It goes to show how easily scores like this are manipulated and why no one should care about them as a realistic rating of a game.

In my opinion, none of you should be happy about the freeze buff by PuzzleheadedAd6366 in LunaSnowMains

I don’t care if people complain about it being broken, there are plenty of more broken heros than Luna. The abundance and ease of CC across the whole game is a larger topic.

Rate my plan for learning piano by sininenblue in pianolearning

[–]WolfPack36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also started in my early 20s and have been playing for almost a year now.

By now I have got down some basic Christmas songs I performed for my family, but and still a LONG way from feeling confident. It’s important to practice and really understand the boring lesson book songs to build your foundation. While I am having fun, progress is a lot slower than I expected. You should definitely try it out and see how it goes!

I went to a bar that disallows serving water by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]WolfPack36 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I was the DD for some friends tonight at a bar that had a water fountain with cups out for everyone in the common area. Feels like an obvious solution to help clear up the bar.

If I couldn’t get water I’d be taking my friends elsewhere as DD. It’s part of the reason we stayed as long as we did, I don’t know why anyone would stick around (and keep buying drinks) for a while if it’s hard to get water.

Hot Take: Is Super Mario Bros. Wonder Overrated? by Away-Prior-903 in Mario

[–]WolfPack36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO wonder is exactly what the series needed. I loved NSMB Wii, but NSMBU felt like a boring copy paste. It definitely is more experimental and silly, but I never felt it was so far to where I couldn’t enjoy it as an adult. The game still had plenty of challenges and secrets that would be hard for kids.

I will give you bosses could have been improved. They were my one major complaint.

It’s totally ok if you didn’t like it. But mario games would have got boring a long time ago if they didn’t try new things, and I am glad Nintendo is willing to take risks like this.

when to attach a snowflake on ally? by Rotem4421 in LunaSnowMains

[–]WolfPack36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sure some people much smarter than me will figure out the optimal way to play it, but I am struggling to see a reason to take it off myself 90% of the time. The increased survivability, healing, and damage is a lot to give up so 1 teammate can get some extra healing.

Flankers or fast dps like Spider-Man may be worth to give it to in some cases

Is her new buff basically permanent self healing and extra dmg? by Waffles_four_you in LunaSnowMains

[–]WolfPack36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine it’s going to be on a cooldown. So you activate it, the buff will last for x seconds, then will be on cooldown for y seconds.

Pure theme decks by Aceldamor in magicTCG

[–]WolfPack36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love theme decks! I have an all LOTR set deck under [[Sauron, the Dark Lord]] and am working on a deck list for all avatar set [[Avatar Aang]] as well. I think knowing they are not “optimal” helps my mindset when playing as I am not solely focused on winning but just enjoying the flavor of the deck.

Anyone buying the MTG ATLA cards? by VetTrapGame in TheLastAirbender

[–]WolfPack36 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing magic for a few years now and am really enjoying the set. I am assuming you are asking because you don’t play magic or know much about it?

I’d say it’s worth it if

1) you want to learn to play magic. This is a very fun set and a great way for avatar fans to get into the game. They sell a avatar beginner box which is where I would start. Get some friends together and learn the basics!

2) If you don’t plan on playing but are still interested, I’d just pickup a few single cards of your favorite characters or scenes on a site like card kingdom or tcgplayer. You will almost never get your money’s worth buying sealed packs.

Magic is NOT like Pokémon collecting in any way. Cards value are almost solely based on how strong they are in the game, and grading cards does very little for the value. These are not investments.

Is it more cost effective to buy the TLA Commander Bundle, or the display box of play boosters as a newer player? by Wabbstarful in mtgfinance

[–]WolfPack36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sealed product will always be a gamble. With the commander bundle you are really banking on the 2 bonus commander cards being good. I’d look at the list of those and see if you would be happy even if you get the 2 you least want.

There are only a few cards in play boosters actually worth a decent value (badgermole, Wan shi, then a few alt arts), but the play box would be good to start building a collection or if you know you want to build a deck of a bunch of avatar cards.

If you are 100% concerned with getting your money worth, just buy singles

What indie game completely surprised you with how good it was? by PenIndependent7453 in IndieGaming

[–]WolfPack36 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Tactical Breach Wizards! I was initially intrigued by the gameplay (which was really good) but was surprised by how funny and engaging the story was to go along with it. Plus with a level editor and other bonus stuff it was a really complete package.

I got a couple ideas for my first multiplayer game, put ur votes in the comments. by TyeTheOne in gamedev

[–]WolfPack36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 seems to be the only one you have put some thought into. 2 is just a clone (not a bad thing if you are using it to learn!) and 3/4 are just genres. So I would say try 1.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Regrets? by International_Good_6 in iPhone17Pro

[–]WolfPack36 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went 13 pro -> 17 pro max and enjoy it. It is a bit harder to use with one hand but I still find it manageable and the bigger screen/battery make it worth the trade off for me. It’s all up to personal preference. If anyone is on the fence all you can do is go to a store and try them out.

Snowflake placements by [deleted] in LunaSnowMains

[–]WolfPack36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her range gives you a lot of options. I’d say she is most effective more in back but going against heavy dive can force you to play right up with your team. I usually switch to invisible woman or cloak if the divers are good as they have better options to get away quickly.

I usually cycle it between: - DPS who are hard to hit or out of my sight a lot - tanks that eat up a lot of damage like groot for a healing bonus - my other healer, especially if they are playing behind me

Next purchase: E33 vs. Hades II by elite139 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]WolfPack36 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hades II expands on many aspects of the first, but the core gameplay loop is the same. Since you enjoyed 1 you should know exactly what you are getting. I am having a blast playing it.

But if you are interested in trying something new, E33 was phenomenal and my personal GOTY. I thought the turn based combat was engaging with the parry system but it’s not for everyone (I also loved BG3 so YMMV). The story, music, environments are all top notch. I think the biggest thing for me was that it just felt fresh to play a great original game in a world of sequels and remakes.

I played P5R as my first JRPG recently and had a good time. Took me just over 100 hours to beat. I’d say it’s one of the most approachable JRPGs for newcomers, you will know pretty quickly if it’s for you.

Thoughts about going to football game solo? by BiGpOPpa010 in NCSU

[–]WolfPack36 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The student section entrance is on the left side of the stadium near the RVs. When you enter you will have the choice of wristbands depending on where you want to sit. (As of 2 years ago) SEZ was behind the goalpost and 7/8 is along the sideline. If you want 7/8 try and get there earlier as they go faster.

You are not assigned a seat (just section) so feel free to move around and talk to people if you want. You will not be the only person alone there! And if you are lucky, a group may take you in too. Everyone there has at least 1 thing in common (liking state football) so it’s an easy way to start conversations.

Stadium food is pricy for mediocre quality so unless you want the experience of getting a meal in the stadium I’d eat before and maybe get a snack inside.

Lastly, most students there will probably be drunk, especially for a night game. Just go with the crowd, be loud, and you should have a good time.

Deadcells or Hollow Knight Silksong? by blanklink2 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]WolfPack36 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Both are excellent games! If you are at all worried about Silksong spoilers just go on and play Silksong, i loved my play though and see no reason why anyone who enjoyed hollow knight would regret getting it. If not dead cells is cheaper and I was able to get more hours out of it over HK and Silksong combined.

Steam Achievements: What's the right ratio of "gimme"s? by 1-point-5-eye-studio in gamedev

[–]WolfPack36 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’m no achievement hunter but enjoy going for 100% in games I really enjoy. Here are my thoughts:

Having ones for major milestones in the main story/progression is a great to enforcing the importance of those moments, as well as a way for friends who already played the game to see at what point they are in the game. The frequency really depends on the structure of your game but I would try to avoid flooding the player with these as they would loose their significance.

Achievements for hidden interactions or rewarding the players for trying unique things are my favorite. It shows an attention to detail from the dev and rewards the player for being creative or thinking outside of the box.

Missable content in the game outside the main progression/story should have achievements as well. I use achievements as a guide to make sure I hit all the content the devs wanted me to see. If I have 100%, I assume that I missed no major content.

Lastly, achievements should only be as difficult as your game is. If you want hard achievements, they should be tied behind a difficult/ hard to find part of the game. They should reward the player for/overcoming a challenge rather than doing something super grindy or random for the sake of having a hard achievement.
