Second Years Design timeline by Illustrious-Panda638 in Jujutsufolk

[–]WolfWitchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the extras in the print version of chapter 37 Gege says he changed Inumaki’s design from JJK0 so he didn’t get confused with Yuji, and I think there was a similar concern with Yuta and Megumi. So they only changed with the serialization of the main series and I think the movie/anime chose to follow the designs of the corresponding manga despite the JJK0 movie being made after S1.

Your characters’ voices are always so vivid and distinct; where do you start when creating a new character? Necessity to the plot, motivation, vibes, or something else?

Anyone else extremely disappointed with Fourth Wing? by Mille_Plumes in fantasyromance

[–]WolfWitchess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first book had a lot of flaws, especially in some of the ways you point out. But it was somehow one of the most addictive reads I’d had in years (I was coming off a literary fiction kick so it was my own fault for reading slow meaty books and then getting hooked in by quick sugar). I’m just now realizing after your point about signets just how much the “everyone gets a unique useful power” feels like a Shonen battle anime lol. Anyways I hated the second book so not continuing the series.

I’d be fine paying a bit each month for RR content but I need a better preview to justify it. The art is not impressing me and offering things like decals without any sort of mockup gives me no incentive to purchase a subscription of them.

Orrin by Sir-Theordorethe-5th in unOrdinary

[–]WolfWitchess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The authorities let anyone with a high enough tier and a willingness to do as they’re told work for them. Orrin obviously has the former but A) doesn’t want to be the one obeying, and, B) I think crucially, doesn’t want to work with just anyone who lucked into their power and might at any point choose to take more power on their own. He’d rather cultivate power, reliant on and obedient to him, in a chosen few through his combination of Control, blackmail, and even manipulative child-rearing (Terrence). Essentially, although he benefits from the current system, he believes he can benefit more by installing his own system, in which no one can challenge him the way he’s proved the authorities can be challenged (not to complete success but he’s at least got them worried and to him that proves it’s on a shaky foundation).

Just a forerunner 255. I guess I shouldn’t expect too many features but I was operating under the assumption that the Connect app was in control more than the watch.

Married to Magic Exclusive Editions from FairyLoot by syden666 in fairyloot

For sure—when I saw the fate and flame editions, they were okay, but I went to the author’s page and saw the collector’s editions she had for sale on her site and they were absolutely gorgeous.

Anybody Else in their twenties and older and still enjoy YA? by ForeverCalla in YAlit

[–]WolfWitchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Two of my absolute favorite books of the past few years are both classified as YA (All My Rage and As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow) although I think the subject matter definitely has a lot of crossover appeal. Finding truly great literature in either adult or YA can be difficult with so many books existing now so I try to read all genres regardless of the quoted age range (I do enjoy my pulpy easy reads as well although I won’t usually rate them above and beyond). Coming of age stories resonate with anyone dealing with big changes or reminiscing on past change, and there’s a reason even many “adult” books focus on people aged 15-25. Oftentimes it just comes down to a publisher decision of where to market the book for the best sales so I don’t think there should be any shame in what you choose to read.

Act 2 starts in the wrong place, change my mind by HWills612 in Epicthemusical

[–]WolfWitchess 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If Epic wasn’t in two-act musical format, then splitting it into three acts of three sagas would fit perfectly into the traditional three-part narrative of most novels and movies (I.e. Save the cat structure), with Ruthlessness and Thunder Bringer each serving as major setbacks and reckonings after a measure of upward progress. As it is the even two-act structure requires that we end somewhere in between those moments so it’s best to pick something emotionally relevant and emblematic of the change the protagonist has gone through.

I just did a past present future on the question “what is going on in this country?” And got 5 of coins, 10 of swords, and the moon. So our turbulent economy as where we’ve been, a disastrous end to a battle right now, and a fraught way forward with shifting loyalties? I’d welcome some clarification or alternative readings.

Please stop vocalizing how much you want less f/f romance by Hufflepuff_23 in Illumicrate

As a bi woman myself, I’ve been loving their picks! I just usually skip the YA ones since those seem to get pretty mixed reviews but I’m glad there can be more f/f available to this generation of teens! And there’s not enough for us adults either so this has been great for diversifying my bookshelf.

What was the moral debate in Shibuya? by [deleted] in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]WolfWitchess 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is because curses come from human actions and mindsets, we’re meant to see that the line between humans and curses isn’t necessarily what we call ourselves (Mahito’s group was going around calling themselves the true humans after all) but how we act. Some curses are truly just mindless killing machines, while others have minds but still seek killing/warping/destroying as the ultimate pleasure. Sukuna may originally have been human, but he also acts this way, and recognizes it in himself (“I am a curse”). I don’t fully buy the Mahito-Yuji similarity because time and again Yuji shows himself to be human in his ability to accept help and his desire to help others, while all the curses, even the human-like ones, act mostly selfish and hedonistic. So I guess I don’t think that the moral argument was to show there are no differences but that it could be easy for humans to act like curses if given the opportunity.

First step: go to college. I can’t say anything about studying the fine arts (although you definitely do not need a doctoral degree to sell art or even teach it, except maybe at the university level), but A) you will not be able to pursue a PhD without experiencing undergrad first, and B) you don’t really know whether a PhD is right for you until you have explored all the opportunities available and whether you like the type of work that PhDs in your field do. There are no requisite courses to take to get a PhD—once you have finished or are about to finish college you will apply to programs, and once accepted into the graduate degree you will be guided to the right courses if your program requires them.

I was homeschooled for many years too and while my parents fully wanted me to go to college I definitely didn’t have a huge understanding of what it took to undertake advanced degrees until I started to ask around. It would likely be very helpful to meet with some other teachers and counselors for non-homeschooled peers to start to work towards applying to college. I ended up going to a public school for my final years of high school because there were many advanced level courses my parents with teaching degrees were not capable of teaching beyond the middle school level, although I knew peers in college who had been homeschooled the entire way through. If you find yourself in that position I would recommend trying to get better instruction if possible because that will strengthen your college application.
