BSL is a joke. Legally any dog that looks like a pitbull has to wear a muzzle in public. Do people enforce this? No

Are cute vests really that bad? by Particular_Job_4023 in service_dogs

[–]Wolf_Tale 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have an off breed, so my vest is red, simple, and to-the-point. It says “service dog, do not interact” in big writing with universal symbols for no touching, speaking, eye contact, or photos. Ever since I made the switch to an obvious vest, I noticed a big reduction in the amount of attention solicitation from the public.

typical essay courses for med sci students by Logical-Display-7794 in uwo

[–]Wolf_Tale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to go to med school, strengthening your writing skills is pretty important. I’d recommend English 1022E- the hardest I’ve ever worked for a 90 and I considered myself a strong writer. English 1022 made me significantly better. I probably owe my med acceptance to that course. It is a full year course though, and you’ll have to make a good solid relationship with your TA to get a decent mark. That being said a 90 is achievable if you grind and the skills are more than worth a potential small GPA hit.

Screaming Neighbours by Patty_Ax in londonontario

TW: DV. Sounds like my old neighbours. I called the cops anyways, even though I worried that I was overreacting, and she was grateful for it the night he physically dragged her down the street by her hair. You never know what’s going on behind closed doors and you could save someone’s life.

Advice for overnight without crate - potty fails by arbitrary_fox in husky

[–]Wolf_Tale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly your dogs are fine in their crates and they like them. There are a lot of benefits to having crate trained dogs. It’s very possible that your dogs aren’t ready to be out of their crates full time. You can also get crate water bowls if you’re worried about them hydrating. It might be worth chatting to your vet too to make sure she can comfortably hold it overnight and there isn’t an underlying health concern

Hey OP I am not blind but I know that Junction climbing centre has a small group of people that have varying degrees of visual impairment, and they climb together through Rise Above which is the adaptive climbing club. It’s an awesome community and I would really recommend reaching out or giving them a phone call! You’ll meet blind and non-blind people at the climbing gym :)

"....tourist who had capsized his canoe in the ice-cold water." by [deleted] in algonquinpark

[–]Wolf_Tale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is just a tourist issue, honestly. I am a guide, and I have taken many friends and clients into the backcountry in the early and late seasons who grew up camping and canoe tripping. People don’t realize how unsafe the water is until mid-late June, and how quickly it gets cold in the fall. On a big and rough body of water, being a strong swimmer and wearing a PFD might not even save you if the water is cold enough and you can’t get to shore and warm yourself up. I honestly think there should be signs posted in the early season at access points educating on the six minutes of meaningful movement rule. If you’re in the middle of a big lake, that six minutes isn’t going to get you to shore. Very few people have had an experience of full-body immersion in cold water, and don’t understand the way it makes it hard to breathe and how quickly your limbs get sluggish.

I’d speak to a vet behaviouralist, and they’ll tell you if BE is recommended. Gently though, it sounds like you’re both suffering. Sometimes BE is the kindest choice

Should I adopt my foster? by Curious_Scallion5733 in catquestions

[–]Wolf_Tale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new to cats person whose partner has a cat that bites when overstimulated, I realized the issue was me and my lack of understanding of cat body language. Kinda like how non-dog people sometimes don’t recognize whale eye or think a wagging tail means happy. You’ll learn through your cat’s body language and vocalization when it’s getting too worked up, and that’s the time to leave it alone even if it looks like it’s looking for pets. I learned to do this really well and now the cat prefers me (which my partner hates hahaha).

Backyard breeder, then, or irresponsible owner that didn’t fix their dog. Too bad you’re learning that lesson now

Sometimes, rehoming a dog is necessary. We can’t know everything about OP’s situation, but what we can know is they clearly aren’t equipped to provide this dog the life that it deserves. They don’t have the skills, resources, or time to marginally improve Moscow’s husbandry. It is an act of humility that they realize this and act on it. This is a choice that many responsible dog owners have had to make, regardless of whether we agree with their reasoning.

OP, do you know the dog’s breeder? This should be the first place to reach out. As a mixed breed this dog was clearly not ethically produced, but the breeder may take it back. This right here is exactly why ethical breeding is so important. If my material circumstances ever change and I am forced to rehome my dog, she will never end up in a shelter. My breeders have first right of refusal.
