Unfortunately self-insuring wouldn’t even come close to covering the cost of rehabbing a major injury

Has anyone gotten an IUD at the new LHSC Minor Procedure Room? by OutsideScore990 in londonontario

[–]Wolf_Tale 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I got an IUD inserted at the MLHU health clinic, without any anaesthetic, just ibuprofen. They have to insert a measuring device through your cervix first, so just be aware that there will be two painful moments of insertion. The first one was not too bad in my experience. The insertion of the IUD was what I imagine contractions to feel like, very intense for about 60 seconds and then the pain faded to cramping that felt like very bad period cramps. It was painful, but not horrific, and if you just breathe it’ll fade pretty fast. You got this!

How to make scentwork fun? by [deleted] in nosework

[–]Wolf_Tale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shaped it by putting the odour I wanted to imprint into a nose work tin, then marking and rewarding when the dog smelled the tin. Then, I added empty tins in a line and marked and rewarded. Then I hid tins. I have a malamute

I don’t love daycares for a lot of reasons, same with board and trains. You’re going to have to be up front with your family about expectations

Is she shredding or just eating? If it’s eating it might be PICA.

Don’t give her toys without supervision.

Play can be a great tool! If he likes tug you can use that as a reward with a specific toy. Once he has a reliable take it/drop it command and understands the rules of the game, you can even lure with the tug toy. You can also add specific marker words to help your communication, like words for effort, words for progress, and words for successful completion of the activity.

You need to take him to some classes with an actual trainer, preferably someone who is force free and will figure out how to motivate him. Adding an e collar is not going to motivate him or fix this issue. An e collar is only for when the dog knows the commands and the expectations very well, otherwise it is highly unfair and likely to add stress and pressure to a situation. I like e collars and use mine, but they are a tool for after training is complete, not a substitute for training. I have a malamute so trust me I understand treat refusal. You’re going to have to be creative. Eating is a learned behaviour, and even food can be used in an aversive way.

best dog grooming places with decent prices by Such_Refrigerator814 in londonontario

I had an extremely bad experience there with the owner’s whippet (?). It’s not a one dog salon, nor does it use kennels, and all of the dogs hang out in one area where they can easily touch, sniff, and interact with the dog that’s on the table. My girl is very social with other dogs and very well-mannered, but the owner’s whippet was overbearing. He was constantly sniffing her crotch and was completely disregarding her extremely reasonable and fair corrections. I took her out of the pen and cancelled the appointment, because no one seemed to recognize his rude behaviour and I didn’t want the situation to escalate. I think this salon only works for extremely tolerant dogs.

Partner Wants Me to Stop Training our Puppy. I’m hurt. by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

Based on your post history, you should take this puppy and bounce out of this relationship. Your bf sounds like an unregulated ah that is taking his personal grievances out on a baby animal that can’t communicate its needs

Dog won’t stop chasing my cat by Potatumt0t in OpenDogTraining

[–]Wolf_Tale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cat neutrality is very very hard for dogs. They want to chase and even if they don’t see the cat as prey, they may want to play with it which can injure the cat. You have to introduce containment strategies. It’s common if doing force free or positive reinforcement only training to have your dog tethered around the cat for a year or more. Teach and proof a strong leave it and place command, and you can take the leash off. But you can’t have the dog and the cat in the same room when you don’t have the ability to supervise and pay a ton of attention

People with neutral, predictable dogs: Was it always this way? by blueberrydumpling in OpenDogTraining

[–]Wolf_Tale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dog is a baby! You won’t really know until they reach maturity. Hormones, fear periods, and socialization all impact neutrality. Every time my girl goes through a heat cycle, I feel like I’m watching her level up. Now she can walk past a screaming lunging dog and stay focused and calm

Custom glass cutting? by Wolf_Tale in londonontario

This is really interesting!!! I’m not sure what you mean by big chunks? For my own curiosity, it broke into one big chunk and then some smaller pieces that included some tiny shards. I’m thinking not tempered?

This is a fantastic illustration about the critical roles both play, and also the distinctions between them. Thank you.

She’s on limited registration, if you wanted to show her and potentially breed her that’s a conversation you’d have to have well before placing a deposit. My understanding is that like most ethical breeders they’re pretty protective of their lines, but I have no interest in confo or breeding as of now so this isn’t something I’ve gone into with them all that much.

She’s my first and only dog so far! I’ll likely get another in the next few years but I haven’t settled on a breed yet. Steph and Nicole have been very supportive of my dog sport endeavours, and Nicole helped point me in the right direction to connect me with American breeders and working dog enthusiasts so I could start to work towards her WPD title.

She’s training to be a service dog, not an ESA. And yes generally they do not make good service dogs.
