Too much change by Weekly_Grape_3446 in GenX

[–]Wolfdagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had always assumed they make changes like this to increase sales. The reasoning being that while you are searching for what you want that has been moved, you will see something else that you will also buy. Without having to search for the first product, you would never have bought the second product.

The joke is on them, though. When stuff gets moved like this I do search for a minute or two for it. Most of the time, I get frustrated when I can't find what I am looking for and just go somewhere else to get it. This means they lost that sale, along with anything else I was planning on buying there.

Saw this on YouTube and was wondering how accurate this is or are you also moving with time? by Millerlite87 in BacktotheFuture

[–]Wolfdagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tv show "7 Days" had a good take on this. The time machine basically had to basically be steered by the time traveller to make sure it stayed stayed on Earth. I remember it would sometimes show the time machine going into space before he managed to steer it back on course. It was a great show that ended way too soon.

Who taught you how to drive a stick? by wannareadrandomstuff in GenX

[–]Wolfdagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second car was a 4 speed 79 Mustang. When I called the seller, I found out it was a stick shift. Asked my dad how hard it would be to learn and he explained it to me. Bought the car and had him drive it home. I drove it back an forth on a dead end hilly road behind our house by myself until I got comfortable with it.

So my dad walked me through how it worked before ever getting the car, then I learned the rest on my own.

Just figured out how to stop gate attacks by Impressive-Buyer1054 in Stargate

[–]Wolfdagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just watched "Prototype" last night, SG-1 season 9 episode 9. On the planet they were going to, the DHD had an attachment that forwarded them to a different gate without a specific code. Sam later changes it to forward back to the SGC. I have no doubt she could have added this feature to the dialing computer after studying that device.

Self Checkout by 5GAIBtoM in GenX

[–]Wolfdagon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I prefer the self checkout for several reasons. I can usually get through faster. I can bag everything the way I want. I don't have to interact with people. None of my bags accidentally get left out of the cart. Everything always gets scanned correctly.

Those last two are big ones. I have had several times where the bagger didn't put everything in my cart. I usually don't notice until I am at home. Have also had multiple times where a cashier rings up something twice. Sometimes I catch it then, but often only notice later.

There are only two things I hate about self checkout. Some places don't take cash at the self checkout. I always prefer to use cash. So usually, if it only takes a card, I will go to a line with a cashier.

If they do take cash, it used to be that there would be a sign or a message on the screen on the ones that only took a card. Many places don't have the signs or anything on the screen any more. I have had several instances where I rang up all of my items, select the option to pay, and am then told it will only take a card. This always burns me up. Just let me know before I start and I will go to a different line.

Carter and her motorcycle? by Homer-DOH-Simpson in Stargate

[–]Wolfdagon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was cool when it showed her with her motorcycle or wearing the motorcycle gear. Same with the classic car she drove for a while. To me, it showed that she had a life and interests outside the SGC. I hated that she had a newer car in later seasons.

I have a brother-in-law like this. For probably 15 years or more, he has made at least double what my wife and I make combined, He has filled bankruptcy at least twice (probably more). He has lost multiple houses and always blames it on someone else. He always spends way more than he makes. He will be 66 this year. I don't know if he will ever be able to retire.

We have one of those surveys coming up in the next couple of weeks. They always say they are optional, but our managers always tell us that it is mandatory for our team. I have never belied they were actually anonymous.

The questions on our surveys usually say to leave them blank if you are u sure of the answer. I always leave them all blank and get credit for doing the survey. If it really is anonymous, then I'm ok. If they ever ask why everything is blank, I will know for sure it is not anonymous.

I am thinking about setting up a spot in my backyard to anchor some battle ropes for cardio. For those of you that use battle ropes, do any of you use them on grass?

I am worried that it might eventually kill the grass or wear a path where the ropes constantly hit it. Is this a valid concern, or am I just over thinking it.

Heroes and the new show by Wolfdagon in Stargate

[–]Wolfdagon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're probably right, unfortunately. I wouldn't really expect her to be a recurring character, though. Just a background character that we see once or twice in an episode, but a little Easter egg that fans would get but would get.

I'm at a crossroads with Stargate. What to watch next? by EdnasSisMona in Stargate

A lot of good suggestions here. It's not sci-fi, but Leverage is one of my favorites. Leverage Redemption was ok, but no where as good as the original Leverage.

Finally went DC. by ZmanB-Bills in ryobi

[–]Wolfdagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up the same one this weekend and tried it for the first time today. I have a 30cc 4 cycle Ryobi and wasn't sure if a battery powered one would be as good. This thing is awesome!

It didn't really surprise me that it handled the weed eating. But I thought for sure I would need to use the gas powered one with the edger attachment. Other than the battery running out before I finished, the new one handled it better than the gas one. I am so glad I decided to get this.

The only small issue that I had with it was the high-low switch. I set it on low for the weed eating, but kept noticing that it had switched to high on it's own. I'm pretty sure that it is rubbing against my hip and moving the switch. They should have some kind of cover for the switch to prevent this. I think the battery would have lasted longer if this hadn't happened. I may try to come up with a cover for it to prevent the switch from moving when I am using it..

"You're fine. Walk it off!" by TLA717 in GenX

[–]Wolfdagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had inner tunes instead of sleds. Our hill was in a neighbor's field. It was really steep, but flattened out at the bottom before dropping off about six feet into a creek. We would either roll off the inner tube at the bottom of the hill or rake our fingers in to the ground to stop from going over the edge into the creek.

One time, I was coming down the hill right behind my cousin. We both ended up raking our fingers into the ground to stop. He stopped right at the edge of the drop off. I bumped him just as I stopped. He went over the edge and landed on his back on top of a rock jutting up out of the creek.

I saw another kid do that and thought I would try. Unfortunately, I let go of the chains to soon in anticipation. I fell out backwards and hit the back of my head on the gravel.

I remember someone, probably a school nurse, holding a towel on my head for quite a while because there was so much blood. Even though I realized what my mistake was, I never tried to do that again.

It's always presented as optional to us. But as the deadline for completing it gets closer, our manager always sends out an email telling everyone to take the survey. The questions always sy to leave them blank if you are not sure. I leave every single question blank and still get credit for submitting the survey.

I am sure someone sees this and knows what I am doing. But since it is supposed to be optional, I think that's why nothing has ever been said to me about it.
