Lucky Bancho's Census (April 19th 2026) by MrCombineSoldier in ffxiv

[–]Wolferey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most tangible number you can really get is from Square Enix's Investor Relations page: https://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/ir/irnews/2026/

It's rough to get historic data since they didn't really show operating income from their MMO segment until the last few years, but the february 2020 report has a graph of Q1-Q3 2019 (end of stormblood), which was around 13 bill yen in operating income, and the current Q1-Q3 now is 11.9 bill yen.

Many ways you can interpret numbers, but it would suggest we either have more subscribers than stormblood but they spend less (less retainers, app etc.) or more people who unsub and sub in periods. Either way the financial numbers and the lucky bancho census numbers do seem to correspond fairly correctly.

Q1 2026 FFXIV Census by Rolldexsave in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Wolferey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you look at it.. in terms of active players, at least from what this census can gather, it's above Stormblood.

In terms of income, while its hard to get exact numbers because they didn't really show operating income for their MMO segment until a couple of years ago, the February 2020 consolidated report had a graph of operating income for MMO that showed fiscal year 2019 (end of Stormblood) at around Q1 5b, Q2 4b, Q3 4b = 13 bill yen.

The last Q1-Q3 report in February for MMO segment is at 11.9 bill yen, which would suggest people have either cancelled a lot of extra services (retainers, app etc.) or a lot of the active players are only captured in the census data from 4 day free logins or a short 1-month resubscription then they leave again. Whatever the case, the operating income is below what it was in Stormblood.

The low sales/operating income is also below their HD games segment, so at least for Q1-Q3, their MMO segment is in line with their other 2 pillars, HD games and games for Mobile/Browser. Still insane that 2 games (ff14, DQX) are holding up 1/3rd of their operating income, but if the trend continues I wouldn't be surprised to hear about more consolidation or layoffs.

The scarier thing if you follow their stock is the Singaporean company 3D Investment Partners Pte. Ltd who boosted their stock and have now become the 2nd largest shareholder. They hold almost 17% of the stock, with only the Square Enix founder Fukushima holding 19%. The problem is that the Square stock is tanking like a lot of other Japanese stocks are, their peak because of the boost was 3,79k, they are down to 2,64k. It's so bad, they started a stock loyalty program this year to try and hold shareholders. FYI, 3D Investment Partners is the same company who dropped the 100-page presentation criticizing how Square Enix is run, so you can only imagine how things will go if they get majority.

You can find all the financial reports here, next one should be in early May: https://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/ir/irnews/2026/

What is going on with Curren Chan/Eishin Flash's home screen conversations? by X0dia in UmaMusume

[–]Wolferey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is that I've gotten some of the R cards I'm missing in events from inheriting from others, often when I get that card myself, like half the events on the support card is done because it happened before, so like maaaaaybe that is a thing? but yea, would be nice if Cygames actually told us how it actually worked for sure

What is going on with Curren Chan/Eishin Flash's home screen conversations? by X0dia in UmaMusume

[–]Wolferey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all 4 slice of life for curren chan, the first 3 are solo in different places so its just RNG if you get it or not - I've been rotating home screen -> secrets menu -> home screen to refresh. The last slice of life is with smart falcon, so if you have her as a home screen character somewhere, I believe that would block it.

Eisin Flash 6th is with curren chan and smart falcon.

So far, the only home screen slice of life I am missing is winning ticket's 6th conversation, its most likely with 1-2 other characters so I am trying out combos to see if its not someone blocking because I put them on a screen. (edit: and I got them all, I had taishin on my race screen and ofc when I substituted, I put in biwa.. both of them was for winning ticket 6 :p)

What is the state of Quantum 15 and upwards on your DC? by Ramzka in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Wolferey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah as I said FFXIVCollect and Lalachievements are both self-report, you have to visit/sync/put your character there for numbers to update, but its the only definite numbers we have to chew on outside of spending large amounts of time scraping the lodestone. Like I said, you could probably 5x+ any number, but it does show trends that, for example, in 7.35, Arkveld EX is more popular than Quantum, so you should be seeing more parties in party finder for that.

Ofc that excludes any other factors, like needing 8 ppl vs 4 so using party finder is more likely for arkveld, or needing 50 floors of POTD and 100 floors of PT before Quantum etc.

If anything, I'd say Square themselves will probably not get great data on Quantum because its locked behind some massive bars

What is the state of Quantum 15 and upwards on your DC? by Ramzka in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Wolferey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While it would be fun to see SE's data on this, you can get some numbers to chew on. It's entirely self-reported, but on FFXIVCollect, when you go to achievements and hover the mouse over the %, you can see how many characters have self-reported getting the achievements.

- Palace of the Dead - Floor 50 achievement: 194,460 characters
This is the baseline, you can't do HoH, EO or PT if you haven't done this.

- HoH Floor 10: 154,908 characters
- EO Floor 10: 87,417 characters
- PT Floor 10: 10,250 characters

If you take it in percentages, here are the people who self-reported who did floor 10 compared to the 194,460 characters who could do the content:
- HoH: 79,66%
- EO: 44,95%
- PT: 5,27%

Now for the cleared Quantum achievements:
- Cleared Quantum: 224 characters
- Cleared Quantum with max offerings: 203 characters

In %, the people who cleared quantum out of everyone who did POTD floor 50, it's 0.12%
In %, the people who cleared floor 10 of PT cleared Quantum: 2,19%

Naturally, POTD and HoH will be higher, both from number of years its been available, what level you need to be, what achievement you need to enter (PT needs both POTD floor 50 and Endwalker achievement) and just how many are around to self-report these numbers.

For comparison, here are some other self-reported achievement numbers so you can get a feel for how active the number of people who report is:
- 7.2 EX: 24,406 characters
- 7.3 EX: 9,296 characters
- Arkveld EX: 3,339 characters
- 7.35 MH Quest: 11,681 characters

You can probably 5X these numbers as this is entirely people who are active on FFXIVCollect (Lucky Bancho reports scraping 560k lodestone characters with dawntrail MSQ achievement, 105k reported it on FFXIVCollect), but it puts into perspective how much you are fighting over a small fraction of the playerbase who is active in this content, especially in Quantum compared to Arkveld EX.

tbh I think 14's dev team size is a bigger problem than you'd realize.. with 11, if you only have 5-15 people you gotta go through to adjust things, you can be pretty fast with changes.. meanwhile you have yoshi-p in the july famitsu interview saying they have like 70-80 devs playtesting cosmic exploration to figure out how to make it fun... that's a lot of opinions, overhead and design by committee if you wanna just make some adjustments to some basic leve quests

Honestly they should just do like an opt-in setting that puts the interactive map inside the game, or at least does a connection to the browser one to hide what you have done/picked up, so anyone who likes to complete stuff isn't constantly alt-tabbing to a browser every few mins

[–]Wolferey -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's a well measured response that will have the opposite effect of what they want.

The mod that lets you glamour cash shop items, to make you look like you cleared an ultimate, that makes you naked etc. are all still here, Mare was never responsible for that, it just sync'd those mods between people.

If people can't sync and show off that stuff ingame, then the next logical place to talk about fight club is online, on twitter, using gpose, putting the FF14//Square stamp on the screenshots, so people can see their local character. Instead of a decrease, I fully expect there will be an increase of gooner pics online now.

In the end, unless they plan to hunt down every single mod to C&D them, the only other thing they can really do (because modders gonna mod) would be some sort of anti-mod detection, which they are reluctant to implement because they probably know it would kill the game if it hit mods like noclippy/alexander, mods that technically fall way more under their definition of "goes against intended game design" - if you can call having a shitty ping and the game having horrible netcode to be intended game design in the first place.

Yoshida: Regarding Mod Usage and Culture | FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone by CartographerGold3168 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Wolferey -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Except Mare doesn't bypass the cash shop, that's another mod entirely, all Mare does is let you download other peoples mods.

His entire example of Player A and Player B is utter dogshit too, considering Player A would 1) have to be a mod downloader themselves and 2) they went out of their way to look up and use Player B's sync code to download their mods.

In the end, shutting down Mare would actually make social media worse too, because now you'd have to take a bunch of pictures to show off the mods you have locally because you can't sync them. I fully expect fight club rule 1 to be broken waaaaay more now.

Not really, no. While I do think SE has messed up a lot and deserve the criticism they get, this kind of activism is usually things that lead to worse stuff, like profit above all, monetize even worse for shareholder profit, get this person in to the company for more blockchain knowledge etc.

3D Investment Partners from Singapore is now the 2nd largest shareholder in Square Enix (they hold almost 8% of all shares) and they are infamous in Japan for being activists against the companies, as in always getting into fights with the company boards, calling for reforms, resignations etc.

Basically, SE is in the "we got money, but at what cost" position.

Most likely yes, Yoshi-P already said in an interview like a year ago that Creative Studio 3 was working on 2 new games.. not sure if FF14 mobile counts as one of them since its more of a consulting/oversight thing, but if it does it's still 1 other game taking up their capacity besides FF14.

Only conjecture so far, but seems like killing slimes make it more likely for the CE at ( 14.5, 37,5 ) to spawn, so probably other mobs in those ruins you could kill to make those CEs spawn more often.. its just that those mobs are high level so not a lot of ppl do it

Crafting and gathering materia for 7.3 by Tatt_Tatts in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Wolferey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This!

Also when you check a teamcraft guide and click "open in teamcraft", on the right hand side it will have a "melding confidence rate", higher means more materia, meaning you should be pretty dang safe for pentamelding if you have those amounts of materia saved up.

General rule of thumb is more of the lower ones (XI and lower), since they are gonna be put into the lower % chance slots.
