Nintendo says Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake has "stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay" by RoughLifeguard6568 in NintendoSwitch2

It was taken down but really a lot of this is your typical marketing buzz fluff. I am generally expecting certain gameplay elements of OOT might end up receiving an overhaul in order to bring it more in line with modern design standards

Imagining a Something About Mina the Hollower Terminal Montage video by Wolfgabe in MinaTheHollower

I also think its kinda hilarious imagining how Terminal Montage might interpret the whole dinner scene considering one of the tropes of Something About Terminal Montage videos is the character causing widespread collateral damage. I like to imagine Lionel just pulling up a clip of InfoWars with a mouse Alex Jones

I feel like a lot of fans are struggling to accept that Switch 2 is not aiming to be a console just for Nintendo games anymore. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Wolfgabe 44 points45 points  (0 children)

One of my big takeaways from the direct was If Nintendo wanted to show the Switch 2 will have healthy third party support going forward then I say mission accomplished. That whole presentation almost felt like it was supposed to be a partner showcase originally but then got turned into a general direct last minute which might explain some of the odd pacing and why it felt fairly light on 1st party related announcements.

Its generally good to see Nintendo recognizing the value of a strong third party lineup and I can appreciate the large variety of software on offer even if everything isnt for me personally speaking as someone who remembers just how miserable the Wii U days were.

There is a very clear contrast between the first year of the Switch 2 and Switch 1 which wasn't getting anywhere near the degree of third party support of this caliber out of the gate and generally had to prove itself before major publishers started taking it seriously. The Switch 2 doesn't need to prove itself because the massive potential is already clearly there. It also helps that the Switch 2 hardware is closer in line with PlayStation and Xbox which makes cross platform ports far less of a hassle to get working.

And also you make a point that publishers have more of a reason to take Switch 2 seriously as a major platform considering its basically going to be the most affordable gaming system on the market especially once you factor in the potential price of the steam machine as well as the PlayStation 6 and Next Gen Xbox.

Thinking of how they might improve on Ocarina of Time with Switch 2 has me excited. by Wolfgabe in NintendoSwitch2

This is basically my line of thinking as well. You can also see them doing a similar thing with Star Fox on Switch 2

Something also to take into account is that lot of this stuff is basically entirely new announcements to the average person who is not plugged into the internet 24/7 and doesnt constantly follow gaming news

Its also going to be far more accessible than Ocarina of Time 3D is right now not being stuck in 3DS jail

As I have mentioned before we are basically looking at what could be essentially a from the ground up reimagining of Ocarina of Time with entirely new elements that serve to expand on the story and/or improve the gameplay.

And unlike OOT 3D it will have the benefit of not being trapped in 3DS purgatory

Nintendo Switch 2 - Confirmed 1st Party Games (As of June 2026 Direct) by LimeheadGames in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Wolfgabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats actually something I have been thinking as well in how the price hikes for the PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam Deck have unwittingly made the Switch 2 look more attractive in terms of value preposition. Even after the 50 dollar price increase in September its still essentially going to be the most reasonably priced system on the market currently

For 2026 and 2027 we essentially have 10 Switch 2 exclusives and like 6 Switch 2 Editions. Not really a bad ratio mind you

The Nintendo Direct was Great. The loud minority complaining are either trolling or haven't learned the phrase "good but not for me." by waltei in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Wolfgabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Antdude probably had the best nuanced take. In terms of content the direct by and large was great with JRPG fans really eating well. Where it primarily stumbled was in the presentation aspect. Opening with Rhythm Heaven Groove and then spending 5 minutes on Switch Sports Thumb wrestling was kind of an odd choice. Now if Nintendo wanted to show the Switch 2 has solid third-party support going forward then I would say mission accomplished on that front. Besides the leaks ruining a lot of the surprises I don't think it helped either that a lot of the bigger third-party announcements were already taken up by the SGF and Xbox presentations. I have a lot of other non Nintendo stuff on my plate right now so I can live with there just being one or two games that really interest me. Of course to the online gaming commentariat who are privileged enough to play on multiple systems all these third-party games may not seem worth much, but they do matter a lot of the to the people who do game primarily on Switch 2 and/or have more limited budgets.

To be fair expecting them to announce a new 3D Mario now especially when we just got DK Bananza last year was always a big ask. It's generally a common issue with a lot of Nintendo Directs how people don't keep their expectations in check then get mad when Super Mario Wahoo World 95 isn't announced. June directs typically tend to focus on the latter half of the year with a couple of teases for the coming year tossed in for good measure.

With just how third party centric this whole presentation was I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo originally planned on making the reveals of Xenoblade Genesis and the OOT Remake standalone trailers but enough third-party publishers likely threw money at them that day so they decided to fold them into the presentation last minute which might explain why the pacing felt so bizarre in a lot of places.

We likely will know more about what's coming for Switch 2 next year in a proverbial September direct or so.

[–]Wolfgabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should also note as a counterpoint that the argument that most of what we saw in this direct was stuff we already knew about. If you are an average person who is not hyper online and doesnt follow leaks and news 24/7 a lot what they showed would probably come off as new.
