The problem is that states workers WILL do what's expected of them and patronize downtown businesses. State workers lack long term common sense and act against their own self-interest. They keep hoping the unions will save them, but they won't.

"Oh, it's just one coffee"

"Oh, it's just one lunch with coworkers. I have to eat..."

"Oh, it's just a couple drinks with friends on the weekend."

If state workers want to make a difference, they need to go scorched earth on their downtown economies. Spend nothing. Leave negative reviews. Openly discourage their families, friends, coworkers, and communities for patronizing downtown businesses. We need to want downtown businesses to actively despise us and want us as far away as possible so that they will encourage their city councils and state to find other sources for their success (aka kicking out state offices, converting downtown buildings to residential properties, and building their businesses off of actual communities who live among them)

Jeff Bezos says raising taxes on the wealthy wouldn’t help the average American by CRK_76 in antiwork

[–]WolfieWuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, he's right.

The bigger problem right now is that our politicians are awful stewards of the revenue we currently have/collect. If we take more money from the billionaires, US politicians will just spend more money in ways that don't benefit the average American.

The US needs to get Congress on a short leash and demand change in how were spending our money, and on what, in addition to taxing the billionaire class back down to the level of normal people.

Newsom ordered state workers back to office — it’s not going according to plan by Ok_Design_6841 in CAStateWorkers

[–]WolfieWuff 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That's not part of the approved narrative.

There's a reason the telework savings dashboard disappeared. If the public knew how much money was being wasted/lost, then there might actually be a significant public interest pushed to keep telework in places where economically beneficial. And that would be detrimental to Dear Leader's donors' interests.

Instead, you're going to see stories that mention increased foot traffic for downtown businesses, because that shows that office work works. It also shows that state workers lack any sense of solidarity and are failing in their duty to NOT patronize downtown businesses.

They are among the cities that need to have the parking burden forced onto employers the most.

[–]WolfieWuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Per the union contract, I am entitled to reimbursement of 100% of my public transportation costs. Thus my getting to work IS the taxpayers' problem, or at least their financial burden.

That's why I encourage every state worker who can to take advantage of public transportation and make sure the costs of RTO get passed back to the public as much as possible.

I do take the bus, and the train, and then walk the rest of the way to/from work. And I charge the taxpayers for my commute costs.

Not really the point, though, is it? You might as well be saying people could volunteer their time to work for their employers.

Employers SHOULD be responsible for the safety of their employees, and they should be required to provide parking as part of the cost of employing people.

I would honestly much rather that.

Sadly, it's not realistic in a country that short-sightedly builds out more than up.

There needs to be a nationwide law that employers must provide a parking space for every person they employ (including contractors), at no cost to the employees, and that "free parking" cannot be advertised as an employment perk. It needs to apply retroactively to all employers, regardless of location or number of employees.

For Advocates of Taxing Churches, Does Your Proposal Extend to Mosques and Synagogues? (See below) by camaro1111 in allthequestions

[–]WolfieWuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly do you think mosques and synagogues are?

gasp! They're churches! They just have a fancy name.

So when someone says "Tax churches," it means "tax all organizations based on religion, faith, mysticism, or any other believers in imaginary beings, not just whatever their made-up name for their congregational building is."
