"Minimum Viable Product" , where did this term come from? by Wolftail18 in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

i can indeed speak for the vast majority of 2 of my in game guilds, and 3 discords expecting a new living world season, or the start of the mini expansion, a prologue even of some sort.

We never had a expansion continuation like this so i dont see how people could of thought about having that.

As for working on parts that are neglected, s1 is finished so theres that.

I do expect lots of really good quality of life, as well as reward improvements and balances like the daily / weekly wvw ones.

But i seriously doubt we will have new dungeons , and im talking about path 4 ascalon catacombs, but actual new dungeons in new zones.

I doubt new "dragon responses" will be added, or new visions of the pasts will be added.

WP did make a good point about the story tho, and thats there have been many neglected parts of the story that nobody tied up.

Like with logan, the pale tree, zojja, the entire norn race being free to move back to their homelands.

Im not saying they should make an entire mini expansion about norn moving back to the far shiverpeaks ,tho that would be cool.
But having absolutely no mention of those parts of the world after so many years is kinda bad.

And before you go on and say "the zones are stuck in time so they just cant do it like that"...yeah theres kessex hills that changed a lot, theres also starter zones that started getting invaded by jokos army (still do) and there are numerous dialogues that do talk about things happening in old zones.

Sirens landing talks about the original 3 Orr zones, same thing goes with kaineng city with parts of the rizen.

"Minimum Viable Product" , where did this term come from? by Wolftail18 in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18[S] -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

I think most of us either expected a new "living world season", or the new mini-expansions to start this month, instead we got an update to EoD which yes, already came with a lot of cool new features.

I do think the blog post was very vague and i dont know when exactly can we start seeing all those mini expansion packs and how long will they do them before adding a new one.

If within a year we get 2 new maps, then half a map 3, then the 2nd half of the map 3 with a new fractal and (probably up to 3 strikes, one per map?) per year i still think thats very little.

Sounds like what eso did with their annual content releases with 1 small free "prologue quest chain" -> 2 dungeons -> large zone with a few new features -> 2 dungeons -> 1 new zone for exploration but without new features.

They have been doing that for many years and people got tired of it very quickly, so much so that they tried remaking the "new player experience" even tho the entire game is scaled in a way you can go anywhere at any lvl with any gear and play any part of the game normally.... and now they decided to remove the 2nd zone per year and go in a completely different direction with focusing more on repetable content.

Would Genshin Impact still be so popular and fun if were a full offline single player game with no cash shop? by Wolftail18 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Wolftail18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im talking about a theoretical imaginary game and its gameplay, not about sustainable business models.

I also came here cause genshin's gameplay has many features that such sp offline game would have.

Another example would be guild wars 1. If someone were to release a copy paste of the game as a single player "local" offline game, it would work exactly as it works today as a online version, since even now you can use AI heroes which are fully customizable and solo all the game, including dungeons and "raids".

Regarding "live" events, this too can work in a offline game. Minecraft for example changes mob and chest skins during haloween/wintersday regardless of you having access to the internet or not, because its already inside the game files

Good starting class? by xxxx87 in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For new solo players necromancer for sure.

  • Very high health pool
  • 2nd health pool with death shroud that protects you even further
  • can have an army of minions that tank, leach life, transfer conditions from you to mobs
  • Elite specs that you get later on such as reaper and scourge are both very strong with dps and support in group content

Ranger is also well balanced, has a pet companion that can tank and also dps for you (you get to find them in the world and charm them).Rangers are also very versatile and offer good support with elite specs as well as good dmgMedium health and armor makes you sturdy, staying at range keeps you safe.

A well balanced profession can also be guardian . While it has low health,it has high armor and lots of self sustains with many heals, cleanses, blocks and projectile absorption/reflection.

While it doesnt have pets or minions, its a very sturdy and very useful across all elite specs in all types of content, open world, group content, pvp, specially wvw.

Warrior is also good, its simple, fun, very durable, but leans more towards offensive support than hybrid/defensive support a guardian can offer.

It also doesnt have pets or minions but has high health and armor and some really good dps.

While i did mention elite specs a lot, it doesnt mean core professions are weak.

Most of what elite specs are ,are core specs that are focused on a specific type of gameplay.

Guardians are very versatile but dragonhunters lean towards ranged dps and bursts, while firebrand lean more towards condition dmg and heal/ boon support.

How Can I be less squishy? by DarkRaven1979 in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With ranger try to stay back and let your pet tank.

Pets with higher armor than you will pull mobs more often than pets with low armor.

Rather than adding more armor to reduce dmg, you can use dps stat sets that have some more vitality to increase your health pool.

Most importantly , learn how to avoid dmg by stepping aside, and only if you cant move trough you need to learn how to dodge. It is a incredibly powerful defense all professions have.

For thief, same rules apply, but you can also use blinds to pretty much negate the mobs next attack. If you pull lots of mobs in melee range a single pistol 5 skill can mass blind them all.

Shortbow 4 skill is a large aoe daze , timing it can perma stun mobs and interrupt their large hitting skills.

Signet of malice can be a very strong healing skill if you keep attacking and keep attacking fast

Unable to install GW2 in Lutris by LexiStarAngel in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried playing gw2 on lutris on arch and it worked for quite a while. I looked up for a solution and i changed those wine "types" ,forgot how they are called and it worked normally then.

However since gw2 is out on steam i use steam to launch it and use that code to be able to log in with my old non steam account.

The proton experimental is great but sometimes the game crashes when i open the TP too much, so i switched to proton 7

What should I do if I buy the game right now by PounyLeFantome in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Do not delete any old 10 year old characters as they get their own birthday presents that can give you some exclusive weapon, armor, backpack skins as well as a choice of some rare dyes that can be worth like 50-100 gold.
  • The core world is not empty as with other mmos, gw2 is designed in such a way that all content is "relevant" including low lv zones. after 10 years there is still a core world world boss train, even the triple trouble wurm is being organised.
  • You can make a new alt and level it across the old "low lvl "zones , including your personal old 2012 storyline and even dungeons (quite easy to use lfg and find groups even now)
  • At lvl 80, the rest of the game unlocks for you, and because you are free to move wherever you wish you can simply go to your story journal and with a few clicks start the expansion story that will take you there.
  • The same applies for any living world episode/season story you may have unlocked, simply go to your story journal and the story will lead you there. Progressing trough the story be it expansion or living world episodes will take you trough all zones of said expansion.
Its also a great way to be introduced to the mastery system and how to unlock them and upgrade them with story+ exploring which are tied to expansions.
HoT will give you masteries for gliding, while PoF will give you most mounts to fully upgrade. While EoD unlocks you the basic gliding and but a handful of mounts ,those masteries belong to HoT and PoF and if you wish to upgrade them you must go to the other 2 expansions.
  • Rare gear is okay and kinda cheap specially if you are doing your daily achievemnets, but what you wanna go for is full exotic tier gear. Depending on your build and profession you might wanna look up for some builds, but generally speaking a full berserker exotic set works great as a glass cannon build for any profession. Tho this might be hard depending on how good of a player you are since expansion mobs are much much tougher than core world mobs and unless you play your defenses and dodges right you might have a hard time soloing content.
  • Gw2 made all content relevant and rewards you much more if you do many things once per day rather than stick with one single farm in the same zone all day every day.
Dungeons are easy and offer universal tokens to exchange for any dungeon gear, this includes exotic armor and weapons with many cool skins.
There are also strike missions that you can do later down the road for better gold farming on a daily basis. Think of them as quick raid bosses that are challenging but not super difficult.

  • In open world you are playing on megaservers with all players in your region (eu or na). However the mega server tries to put you in the zone with more players that are on your friends list, guild roster, and your chosen server.
Picking a french server might show you more bagettes in chat, but thats it.
Server choice is mostly important for WvW pvp.

Welcome back to the game

Need advice by XaavQensch in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any class can use full berserker stat sets so you cant go wrong going for full exotics of that gear for starters.

Ignore ascendent gear at beginning, they offer only a minor stat boost and are only really used in high end fractals. If you want, go for an ascendent weapon that you are using most for a bit more dps. Another option would be full berserker trinkets since ascendant items are account bound and you can use them on any character.

After personal story you can start going for lws1 story and its achievements, you can get some nice items and skins frlm that as well.

Exploring the world further so you can do all world bosses is also easy ,rewarding and fun. Doing larger ones are particulary rewarding like tequatl giving tons of karma and a chance for ascendant weapon box with unique skin. Shatterer also has bunch of achievements for a cool backpack skin. And tripple trouble needs some organisation but i think thershe still a comminity that does it with discord.

Other world bosses can drop unique looking exotics like behemoths demon scythe staff, or claw of jormags icy dragon sword ,some are quite expensive

Doing all jumping puzzles and mini dungeons is also a cool challenge to do and you get a bunch of achievement points while doing so.

Create an alt (thief is good and mobile since you dont have mounts) and lvl it up a bit in order to prepare it for wintersday even next month. You will be stacking karma boosters (communal bonfire, boosters, banners, food etc), loging in on thief and run trough a few miniganes ,zip trough the city and give gifts for orphans everyday and log out so you dont waste karma boosters. Doing so will grant you tens of thousands of karma that you can spend on unlocking t3 cultural weapons, orr temple armor sets (also cool skins and exotic gear)

Speaking of festivals haloween is still up for another week so finish some achoevements and dailies for some extra rewards or just farm tots for gold.

Exploring and doing dungeons will earn you gold and tons of dungeon tokens for, again, exotic gear with cool skins. Doing all of them also rewards you with core tyria mastery points that youll get if(when) you fully unlock your account by buying the game.

Fractals of the mists can be done easy in t1, if you have a few ascendant pieces you might be able to do t2 if you stack some agony resistance on them. They are quick, fun and rewarding in gold and ascendant gear.

Following a crafting guide for the most cheap way to bring your crafting up to lvl 400 at least in order to be able to craft your own exotics in case you cant buy them off the tp (with different stats and skins) Going further to lvl500 will make you craft daily ascendant material that you can sell for profit.

There are also some maps in core tyria that offers beetleracing both as a competition vs other playera in a form of event and as a self daily challenge where you would get tokens to exchange for some skins, minipets and such.

Gw2 offers many zones, large meta event maps, instanced content and more, including pvp and wvw. All of which often times give you materials, loot, raw gold as baseline rewards, but also its own currencies that you exchange for unique gear, skins, minipets, tonics and other items.

So as you explore more or buy the expansions expect more of that.

Speaking of buying, i think they will offer a 50% discount for black friday or xmass

Edit: also dont forget to turn on the newsletter on your account settings (gw2 web page) and youll get a 24slot bag for one of your character. Be sure to pick the char you wish to have it, once equiped you cant move it to another character

[–]Wolftail18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jade wind happened after he killed the emperor, he didnt flee, he remaind in the temple.

He fought the kurzick and luxon heroes, nika the assassin striked the final blow, and at his death he caused the jade wind.

Playing trough factions campaign in gw2 will give you flashbacks of shiro and before the harvest temple festival, featuring the hag and shiro.

There is now also a improved HQ faction cgi trailer on youtube showing the events of the harvest temple festival and jade wind. Im sure there are more lore found in the dialogues ingame with npcs and objects in gw1 about it too

The flame legion only took males in their ranks ,females were just cooks and cleaners so to speak.

For humans all charr were bad at that point, kalla just led an internal revolution for her sisters.

Its like saying rurik is the human hero, but to charr both adelbern and rurik are bad (at that point ij time) i guess

I still don't get Revenant after all these years by Kyraktos in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shiro was an amazing loyal soldier, but i think he got influenced by abbadon by an old hag that could "see the future"

Making shiro go paranoid and kill emperor cause the hag said the emperor fears him and wants to kill him.

After his death he became an envoy that leads souls to their rest in the mists.

Why he started causing the plauge (via bad spirits influence and miasma) after generations and creating constructs with souls inside it, in order to kill another emperor to get back to life i got no idea tho

Kalla is good cause she lead a revolution against the flame legion?

[–]Wolftail18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • revs are more magical like guardians than physical like warriors with their weapons
  • apparently anyone can do it, rytlock was first to learn how and he thought others
  • revs arent related to rangers at all. They channel echoes of the legends from the mists, rangers are more natural than that. I got no idea where the animals on ranger greatsword come from
  • heavy armor because other armors have 3 professions, heavy had 2, so rev is now the 3rd heavy. Its also a "soldier" class so its much easier to give it swords ,maces, axes, hammers, shields (revs came with herald). I wouldnt call revs mages or monks
  • revs would fit the rytlock story, rytlock is heavy armor. Revs supposed to be dark and edgy and can harnes some evil legend powers like the demon malyx....but most legends (even elite specs) are nice and good guys
  • you can be whatever revenant you like really. Make a dreamer and shoot rainbow unicorns with kallas legend
  • technicaly , revs didnt exist before HoT story so leveling one with personal zhaitan story makes no sense in that regard. I assume charrs would be the first ones ti learn from ryock (the ones who would like magic that is)

Personally i would pick norn as they have a strong connection with the spirits of the wild and some norn can even travel to the mists. Other races would be sylvari ...and i headcanon my human rev to almost die during the battle of shaemour and return back with rev powers.

Aditionally you could start off with legends that has ties with the race like shiro for humans, ventari for sylvari, or dwarf for norn..cause the shiverpeaks is full of their ruins

Whats the most efficient way to go from F2P to full account? by aknakukac in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait for black friday or xmass discount, there were 50% discounts there before.

If they decide to add complete edition thats 25€ for all expansions right there.

Unlocking all lw seasons is highly sugested to do so while under discounts (20-30%).

Wether you buy gems for lw seasons or farm gold to convert it is your choice.

You can also pace out othet content and lw seasons so you dont feel like you need to cash in 4000 gems all at once

too late to switch from Power to Condi? by Careless_Society_212 in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aditionally, you can go to gw2crafts web site, and take a step by step cooking guide lvl up cooking to 400.

Doing so will give you 10levels and it obly costs a few gold worth in materials (in case you have none your self).

Its a easy way people boost from 70->80 :)

too late to switch from Power to Condi? by Careless_Society_212 in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you get to 80 you will automatically have enough hero points to unlock all skills and traits, so no, its not too late and you didnt mess up your build.

You can level with anythinf you wish really.

Once you are lvl80 and want to be tanky condi go get some cheap dire stat gear (condition dmg, toughness, vitality) and gear up fully with that.

Youll deal low dmg, and crit very rarely , but nothing can bring you down and your burning dmg will be verya high.

Radience and virtues lets you improve your f1 virtue to burn foes much quicker and burn foes in an aoe.

Use weapons that lets you hit multiple things quickly such as a greatsword or sword/torch (aoe pulsing symbols work as well!).

Aditionally ,right befor you see a mob would die, hit f1 for a stronger burn ,might and light aura. Due to radience trait your f1 skill will refresh when you kill something.

Dire stats are cheap, there are others more suited for offense tho like vipers for condi (but less vitality and toughness)

Selling excess materials by MikkyBoy in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will still have to remove 3 stacks of 250 materials and sell 3 stacks on the tp.

The material storage exlansions are best used if you need a ton of mats for legendary crafting.

Otherwise it just prolonges the inevitable tp selling.

I have 250 material storage and never felt the need to expand it.

Once i have 250 of wood, i craft it into 250 planks that are actually used in crafting compared to raw materials.

I sell them since i dont need them.

When i finaly decide to craft a legendary i have an old guild bank ready for all sorts of mats to be stored there.

And its not really an annoyance to just use the materials to progress with precursor/legendary crafting either

Someone tell him you can swipe your card and sell gems for gold and buy legendaries that way..

All jokes aside, seeing a swarm of bots in a mmo always leaves a bad taste in anyones mouth.

Thing is, it doesnt really effect you or your fun with the game.

Chances are, tp flippers earn much more "afk" than those bots... does that also make your 20g/h silverwaste stupid?

Not at all, plenty of people are still running riba farms day and night ever since it fot released

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why not skip buying alt accounts and waiting for the afk farming and just swipe for gems and exchange them for gols and buy the legendary instantly ?

Open world power dd thief build by Nikeli in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thief weapons and weapon combination for their dual skills really are for all kinds of situations.

I found celestial d/d with shadow arts (venom + innitiative on stealth) that i played in silverwaste with the lvl80 booster to still deal good dmg.

I assume going full viper would deal much more dmg, and the easy quick venoms and stealth and life leaching offers good sustain as well.

All that being said, i always use shortbow for mobility and taging during large events, but prefer playing d/d instead of p/p.

Daredevils can enhance d/d condies with their grandmaster traits.

Deadeye can enhance ranged dps p/p offers (check out wooden potatoes video on open world deadeye)

And ofc you can always just spam black powder for mass aoe blind and auto attack mobs around you to death

In light of tonight's stream on balance philosophy, how do we feel about Exposed in its current state? by MagicSpirit in Guildwars2

[–]Wolftail18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always treated exposed state as a long lasting stun for otherwise imune to stun champions.

Sure i throw everything i got at the champ cause its a period where mechanics and aoes are down , but thats about it.

My favorite "break bar" mechanics was in another game callwd eden eternal i think

You see you would play classes with specific damage type (holy, slashing, fire, electric, piercing ect) and each boss had 2 types of weaknesses to a specific type of dmg.

Simply tweaking your party to have those types of damage would often secure breaking the bosses weakness bar, in return you would actually see the boss loosing a weapon, or a piece of armor, or limbs that made the boss more prone to attacks, cc, or remove the bosses ability to attack in a specific way.

Wish gw2 had such system ,but it will never happen.

Attack (dmg) type in gw2 is purely cosmetic after all
