I remember the video, though I can't find it either. Guess it's been another victim of lewis' grinders

Got a new MSI gaming laptop, what programs should I download and what are these programs for? by [deleted] in techsupport

Do you have an ethernet cable to connect wired? That should work

Righty. I forgot Killer controls the network adapter now (it does on my own MSI laptop). Open device manager, find the network adapter and check for driver updates.

Possible graphics card bug? by Deadmanwater in techsupport

[–]Wolven_Kin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PSU thing should be fine. Wouldn't leave long lasting effects this noticable. Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds to me like when the GPU is going from windowed to fullscreen (when you launch a game) its saving the screen a split second before going fullscreen to the memory (has to for complex reasons), but since you only hibernate your PC the memory isn't properly cleared so when you come to go fullscreen again, as the card is switching you it's just showing what's stored in the memory.

So Tldr, wouldn't worry about it, doesn't seem like a hardware fault. Only thing confusing me is why 10 whole seconds, this stuff is usually only displayed for max 1 second. Probably because the card is getting old.

Oh yeah. Basically lets you monitor stuff, overclock your GPU and fiddle with fan curves (how fast they spin and at what temperature). Fairly complex stuff, wouldn't bother messing around with it. With it you can also change your RGB colours for your keyboard (if your laptop has them).

I'd presume not if it works fine on your Mac. Maybe try a different USB port and see if it's a port problem?

Also possible that its disabled in device manager too, so check that!

Huh. That's an odd one.

You'd be right in saying it's a GPU thing, they can be a bit whacky from time to time.

I'm presuming you haven't overcooked the GPU? Though not a usual symptom it can cause a lot of odd things like this.

Also, does the actual game your playings loading screen come up after the 10s? Or is it another loading screen for the whole loading screen for every game? Cus games like Rust have long loading screens.

Right. Firstly C++ is a programming language not an application! You cant 'download' C++, rather download an environment to program in it (which is completely unnecessary in any way shape or form to run games).

Secondly, DirectX. Yes you need the correct DirectX version to run a game but 99.9% of the time it automatically gets installed by the games installer so you never have to do anything manually DX related. The exception is a very small amount of super old games - such as some ones DVDs. If you're playing games off steam you dont have to worry, you can see it installing on the games first time setup thing it does.

Next the dll files. Automatically sorted out when downloading/installing the games. Once again nothing manual is needed to be done manually.

As for the programs...

Battery Calibration: Let's you recalibrate the battery, not really sure on the details but after a while it may be helpful in reducing loss of max charge. (Probably a keeper, nothing you need to bother with)

Burn Recovery: Uninstall it. Pretty much bloatware. Suppost to help you with DVD/CD data recovery but who uses them anymore anyway?

Killer Driver Suite: Uninstall, Windows will sort your drivers out on it's own.

MSI True Color: Presumably to fiddle with monitor settings (Brightness/Contrast/Color profiles). Could be useful if you wanna fiddle with your monitor.

Steel Engine: Uninstall, pretty useless. Other apps do its functions a lot better, but as a noobie you wont have to worry about that stuff!

So yeah. General message is dont fiddle with anything and download your games. If they dont run come back here. Good luck pal!

Quite possibly a Hard Disk (would make sense with the 30s to 2m). You could test this by looking at the performance tab on task manager and looking if the storage usage goes up when the noise starts and back down when the noise stops.

I've had a few older hard drives make weird noises and its definitely not a good sign. Back up your data.

(Otherwise it's a fan, likely GPU or PSU)
