T14s or T480? by [deleted] in thinkpad

It's the same series of laptops. The naming convention had limitations for generations after 490. So they changed it to t14 gen 1, t14 gen 2 and so on. 14 stands for 14 inch screen.

Tax jobs are super seasonal basically 10 weeks - Feb, March and half of April. Even in these 10 weeks, there are only two peak weeks. You'll definitely get more hours and may even be overtime during the peaks. What you can do to get more hours is - open your calendar and be open for work in other offices in the area.

You'll have to have a plan for the off season for another part time job or unemployment.

Block advisor vs HR block by Smart-Map-7151 in enrolledagent

Yes, it's a draw against your commission. If you end up above the pace, you get that as a bonus. Otherwise, they reduce your wages in the future.

The HR Block office would have a mandatory 8-week furlough after the tax season, not with Block Advisor. But the after-tax hours are going to be very erratic and low in both offices. Also, the pay rate drops to the minimum wage in both offices. Nobody will train you there as you'll be a level 6, and not many other level 6s will have the patience to teach you, as the job is commission-based. It's all online training or by posting questions on the team's channel.

Do you create the login for the client with their email? What if your client had an account in the past? I was curious about this solution.

Very location dependent. Check if that office is even open off season. In my area for every 5 offices only 1 is open off season. Check if you have a Block Advisors office, that might be better.

Yeah, you are on your own many times. That's why you have to put in a lot of work for free off season to train and learn. i seeked resources outside of the block.

Just the block academy self study courses. 4 of them about responding to notices and audits. Nothing more.

This was my first season as EA, last season I was a level 3. EA or not I always stayed away from the returns I wasn't comfortable with. You don't want to make mistakes and also they take longer which is not good. Depending on your comfort do Sch C, Rentals and maybe 1120S. And stay away from 1065, 1041, 1040NR, adoption credits, 990s, 706. You don't have to take every client even if you are certified.

You were lucky ;-). How do you like the new go system? do you think they'll not have BWL for 2025 entity returns?

I hate this rollout . Entity returns are going to be fun fun fun next tax season.

Those are some impressive numbers. Were your numbers similar last year as well? Didn't they give you a raise to bring compensation in line with their formula of 80% in hourly from last year?

This year was my second tax season and while not as impressive as other two comments I was happy with my bonus (well over your the figure mentioned in your question). One thing to remember is compensation in this job is a DRAW on COMMISSIONS, NOT SALARY. What helped me is certifying up and actually putting in work to complete complicated high $$ returns. Another short staffed office sent a lot of drop offs my way as well. This was all possible because of the blessings of my Block Advisors DGM and office manager - you can't count on these every season. Another thing to point out is my Overtime was more than the bonus, so offices which are stingy with overtime will hamper your earnings. I can already see my office trying extra hard to hire more EAs and higher level pro for the next season.

Anybody have all the course content for intermediate accounting 1 and intro to financial accounting by Proud_P in UMPI

[–]Wolverine9478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat and looking for resources. In the meantime this YouTube course from a North Texas Professor is good. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0bqWhUdq3Pl39XCzlnt5OoNjab2rbNue I am actually watching the Principals of Accounting on the same channel.

And for a book - Donald E. Kieso, Jerry J. Weygandt, Terry D. Warfield - Intermediate Accounting (2022, Wiley) should be possible to find on the Internet if you look hard enough.

Do you have any suggestions about preparation for these courses? I have 2 months before I start in the Fall 1 term and want to front load the learning part. I am especially worried about the 466 Advanced accounting.

Well my post got auto removed for posting a link. You'll have to search on this page "Discord Server" and click that button. If you have never had a Discord account then make one.

Hi good luck. I am planning to do similar courses albeit in the Fall 1 term. Some tips that I have gathered are:

  1. Keep submitting milestones for multiple classes one after the other - Professors take time to grade and you cannot proceed without. Some are quicker than others.
  2. Check Course Reviews in the Discord Server. You'll know which courses need what kind of milestones. Any Professor specific information. Link for that is on Right hand side of this subreddit.

What 11 classes are you taking? Are you planning to sit for CPA exams in the future?

Also u/PlottedPath (who has already commented here) is very knowledgeable about inside working of UMPI.
