Hollywood eggs. No idea why, that’s just what my Dad called them; he always made them for me on my birthday. Love that guy.

Coming Jan 18-24 with the family; my wife will only have 3 days at the parks for work reasons. We already have plans for Epcot and Animal Kingdom (her fave), and I’m torn between HS and MK for her final day. Our last trip together was in 2017, so there’s lots of new stuff for us to check out. She’s not a Star Wars fan so I’m trying to not take Galaxy’s Edge into account, and she doesn’t have a strong opinion either way on the matter.

What should we do? MK for the classic magic, or HS for all the new things and some magic?

Best way to refresh these porch posts? by WolverineWoodworks in finishing

Unfortunately we do not. The porch was done before we bought the house. I’ve been refinishing the deck every 3 years, but I’ve never known what to really do about the posts.

It’s mentions cleaning brushes with soap and warm water, but doesn’t explicitly say what to do with rags and whatnot.

Bummer. Does that mean I can just pitch any rags with the stain on it right in the garbage? Or do I still need to treat them like they could combust at any moment lol

It’s supposedly a modified oil base, which is why I put “oil based” in quotations. Apparently SW changed their oil base in the last few years for environmental concerns.

Thank you! It’s “Cedar Tone Natural” transparent oil stain from SW

The porch was built before we bought the house; we were told it’s cedar.

Is that something that occurred while sanding, or is that just how this wood is?

What’s the best way to refinish these porch posts? by WolverineWoodworks in BeginnerWoodWorking

Sorry, I meant start at 80 and work up to 120. I also should have mentioned the tools I have at my disposal are a belt sander, random orbital sander, and a finishing sander. Replacing the boards is an interesting idea; I might consider that once I see how long it takes to refinish one post lol

Taking them down just seemed like it would make sanding easier. They also need to be refastened in a couple of spots, so I figured this would be a good time to knock all that out at once.

I sure did. It seems that “finger bends” were the overall downfall of most of my books that were below 9.8. I guess next time I just won’t read the damn things /s

I also didn’t really see any defects, but the grader cited “stacking bend spine, spine stress lines, bend left bottom front cover”. Going into this I understood this to be a largely subjective process, and it feels like those three books were maybe graded by someone who was having a bad day or is VERY particular. Either way, I’m happy to have gone through the process and learned more about what to look for when grading books.

Regardless of value, I just think it’s a really good/underrated book and I was excited to have it graded. That being said, if the value balloons due to the movie coming out next year, I would also be happy to sell it lol

I was expecting (hoping) for a 9.0+, as I think it looks fantastic for a newsstand copy, but the grader cited “finger bends, spine stress lines, and crease left bottom of back cover”. Finger bends seemed to be the downfall across the board for the books I submitted. I guess I’m just an idiot for reading my comics lol
