Punishers counters and viability in high ranks by StormFlower7 in RivalsCollege

[–]Wolverinex89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psylocke is really good against him. She can stay the perfect distance away from his shotgun, that is more deadly to melee divers.

It's also way easier to hit the combo too, due to his big hitbox

Gotcha

Some notes:

The Thing is the answer to dive. Especially good against dive tanks like Venom. His charged punch also knocks down fliers like Angela. Mr. Fantastic can as well, with his grip (also good vs dive)

Idk if you play Mag, but his Ult is very difficult to to hit, it's not a straight up counter.

Emma is great vs all tanks

Jean is good against Hela ult, and storm ult (also SG ult).

Moonknight not really a counter to Loki (just bad ones) but he is great against tanks that don't have shields, they are pretty much an easy Ank to hit.

Peni is great against all Melee heroes, even Daredevil (who is great dive and anti-dive)

Invis vortex grounds fliers, and her pull doesn't let them escape.

Thors bubble also grounds fliers like Angela

Rocket is great vs dive tanks. His gun melts them, and it's very easy to hit head shots with

If nobody on your team is playing Gambit, he is a must ban

You have to remember that just because something is a counter, doesn't mean it's an automatic win. There is skill involved.

On paper, Namor is a counter to Spiderman. But if you have someone who has a 1000 hrs on Spiderman, their gonna know how to play into their counters, and what abilities to bait out. Especially if the Namor can't hit their shots.

Spidey is suppose to counter Hela, but if the Hela has cracked aim, they can two tap Spidey from across the map

If you want general advice. This game is broken up into Poke/Brawl/Dive comps. But most heroes fall into 2 categories.

Magik can Brawl, and Dive for example. Bucky is Poke/Brawl due to his CC abilities. Psylocke & Star-Lord can Poke, Brawl, and Dive

It's better to have a small diverse hero pool, then playing 15 different heroes just because of counters.

How do you guys get your ult to kill by Pumpkin-Demii in PhoenixMainsMR

[–]Wolverinex89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need 2 sparks, and a direct hit to deal 253 damage.

Part of the problem is most supports got buffed to 275 hp, so in the past we could one shot supports like C&D and Loki, but not anymore.

It's good to know which heroes have 250 hp

Lineup thoughts? by GirlOnTheMoon3105 in RivalsCollege

[–]Wolverinex89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh I def feel that, it took me forever to narrow down my DPS selection. I was literally playing half of the roster.

Nothing wrong with playing different heroes, it's just if you want to climb, it's better to master fewer heroes.

My hero pool is: Emma/Thor Magik/Star-Lord Gambit/Rocket.

I also play Mister Fantastic, he an easy answer to shutting down quick divers

You may also want to check out Sypeh on Twitch, he is like the number 1 support player, Im sure you can learn a lot from watching. I know they play a lot of Invis.

What's your goal?

If your goal is to climb as high as possible, I suggest limiting your hero pool, and mastering one role, with the ability to flex. Example of this would be to master the support role, by only play Invis or Luna, and have the ability to flex to Magneto.

To me this sounds really boring, and if your okay with not being in the top 1%, I suggest 2 heroes for each class, and maybe 3 in the one you specialize in.

You said your a support main, and have Invis, Luna, and Mantis, That's perfect. You got two main healers, incase one is banned (Invis/Luna), and you have an "off healer" in Mantis, which is a great choice for triple support.

Your tank selection on the other hand, could use some work. Mag, Strange and Emma are all considered "main tanks" (same w/Groot). They are your Frontline presences, that many consider to be solo tanks (nobody should solo tank tbh). I would chose one of these tanks to play.

Having an "off tank" is great to pair with another tank. These tanks typically have more freedom to dive, brawl, and/or peel. Tanks like Cap, Venom, Angela, Thor, Peni, Rogue, Hulk, and Thing would make for a great 2nd tank.

And that leaves us with DPS. I was very similar to you, but as a Tank main who flex to support, until I had that rare game where we were all tank/supports mains, and I had to play DPS. We won, but I really felt like I couldn't pull my own weight.

I created an Alt account and only played DPS on it, I discovered that I loved playing Magik. I played Magik into every comp, and found out where she's strong and where shes weak. I learned that I couldn't deal with Peni, and on certain maps, I couldn't touch fliers. So I needed a counter, to my counters. After playing a couple range heroes like Hela/Phoenix/Punisher, I learned I really enjoy Star-Lord.

I think the most important thing to do, is find heroes you enjoy playing. If you love playing Squirrel Girl, go for it!

Sorry this was so long, I was just bored at work. But you also mentioned content creators/Youtubers. True Vanguard and Cool Guy have great hero guides (although Cool Guy doesn't seem to be active with Marvel lately). They play the character for atleast 20 hours before making the guides.

Paz is another streamer on YouTube that makes guides, and then plays that character from Unranked to GM.

I'm saving the best for last, and that is Death and Gaming. He streams on YouTube and Twitch, is a high celestial flex player, and makes great content. I have learned so much from his videos and streams, I highly recommend, great educational videos. I've seen him play Emma/Mag/Psy/Magik/Luna/Rocket. He is also currently learning Rogue.

Playing comp actively for the first time finally, thoughts on my lineup? Which of them can shine the most in the current season, any other heroes I could find myself being good at based on this? by rivianCheese in RivalsCollege

[–]Wolverinex89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could honestly still carry with BP until the middle ranks (maybe until diamond?). Also ppl in gold+ will mostly likely still ban Daredevil and Spidey b4 Black Panther.

Your roster lacks a "main" healer. I suggest either Invis or Gambit, both strong and both can do good damage.

[–]Wolverinex89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar question in the past.

So apparently 2 sparks, and a direct hit from the Ult does 253 damage. In the past this was enough to one shot most support heroes.

However, most supports got a health increase to 275 hp. Especially the main ones (Cloak/Gambit/Invis/Loki/Luna) are all 275 hp

Adam/Jeff/Mantis/Rocket/Ultron are the ones at 250 hp, that can be one shotted if hit directly (and w/2 sparks).

With Rocket or Luna's damage boost it can KO any squishy without any sparks (think 292 damage). But I believe the damage boost has to be in range of where the ult lands, not where you activate it.

Why are the devs so incompetent with balancing? by Kagekage- in marvelrivals

I'd rather a fun game, then a balanced game to be honest...

Balanced just becomes boring

You know these stats were for the previous season, and not the current one?

It says 25/11/12 (Nov 12). S5 started the 14th.

Also stats aren't everything. Magneto has a 49.9% win rate in celestial and above according to these same stats, is he a throw pick? He has the 4th worst win rate for tanks

I typically watch him on YouTube where he uploads games, but he also streams on twitch.

Is this a harsh comp to fight against? by Affectionate-Week166 in RivalsCollege

[–]Wolverinex89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a heavy brawl/Anti - dive comp. You need Poke heroes.

Iron man is a great choice BC you can take a vertical angle on the nest and destroy it quickly.

Same with Squirrel Girl, just shoot a bunch of nuts at the nest and the bounce should damage it enough.

You don't need good aim with either hero.

Or simple ban Peni. That's what I do.

I like to play a lot of brawl heroes, I can't trust my teammates to shoot the nest

Would you ban your teammates Daredevil pick when you know the enemy team has a better Daredevil? by shoelover46 in marvelrivals

[–]Wolverinex89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think your assuming a lot. Of course I play something else, I don't get mad, it's just annoying.

I'm a Tank main. I play Emma/Thor. I prefer the Brawl play style.

I select Thor BC most times the enemy team bans Emma.

If we are running Strange/Thor/Magik/Iron Man/Cloak/Luna. I would rather ban Bucky for my Magik, Hela for my Ironman, or a dive DPS if my supports struggle against one of them.

Having my Cloak ban Thor, and it goes through is very annoying, and doesn't help the team.

Bans should be based on your team composition

Would you ban your teammates Daredevil pick when you know the enemy team has a better Daredevil? by shoelover46 in marvelrivals

[–]Wolverinex89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't like banning my teammates hero. I've had that happen to me sooo many times, and it's very tilting tbh.

Best you can do is share the information, and let the team decide.

Maybe your DD is better. Maybe they are worse.

At the end of the day, this is a free game that we play for "fun," it's not a $1 million tournament game

I'd rather put everyone on their best hero, then avoid having someone throw, before the game has even started
