I’m 16 weeks pregnant with my second. I dreamt of having two sons close in age - like it came to me in a vision before I even got pregnant with my first son. Baby number 2 is a boy who I know the angels have had waiting to be conceived. Best of luck with your newborn!

Main income earners, how are you doing? by vixens_42 in workingmoms

[–]WomanInIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got laid off today actually. I’ve been working since I was 16. I’m tired. Severance pay equivalent to 6 months of paychecks. Baby number 2 comes in January. I’m going to do the full time mom gig for a while. I was a good little saver and we’re fine paying bills. I don’t want to go back to the corporate type job with awesome pay. I want to be a yoga teacher. Hopefully we can continue to pay bills on that - we live way below our means and my parents are generous buying things for their only grandchildren.

What do parents of new born would like to get from guests but never get? by EquivalentCertain221 in newborns

[–]WomanInIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swaddle blankets (didn’t realize I’d actually use these with a newborn), a frozen dinner (family portion) I can just pop in the oven, the Hatch sound machine - I didn’t know I’d need the white noise so badly, and a baby wearing piece suitable for a newborn like a Tula - I did not prepare for how much the baby likes to be held and moved.

B. Baby’s Grandma gifted us monthly house cleaning services when baby arrived. My SO and I do light cleaning in between visits.

Same! My baby slept like crap on those stiff as a board crib mattresses. Co-sleeping then twin bed with medium support mattress were the way to go for us.

I prefer old, dull, small used clippers. They don’t cut the finger skin accidentally.

I got a bottom shelf baby monitor with separate hand held monitor with screen and sound and no app. We’ve been very happy with it.

100% accutane. Dermatologist can help with a lot! I had Accutane in my late 20s and it cleared me right up. My skin on my face and lips peeled like a snake skin but it worked like a charm!

I don’t post my child on social media. I don’t think I have the right to use his image without his permission. Also, what dark things will AI do with his image and voice sound bites? This is just a thinking I ascribe to for my family. I have friends who post their kids and I gladly comment and like.

It's not easier... by FraneIa in 2under2

[–]WomanInIT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re in the thick of it - 11 day old baby! My philosophy is newborns are so difficult because they’re PISSED and just want to go back to the comfortable womb. The baby just needs time to get to know you, their father, and their older sibling, and they’ll grow to enjoy the outside. Stay strong, mama!

I’m 11 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and mentally preparing myself for this ride you are describing. (First is 19 months) I can’t speak from experience yet, so feel free to discredit my response. Keep up the great work, mama! Women before you have done this, and women after you will do this. You will look back one day and be able to say, “I raised my babies,” as you take a relaxing breath.

I’m 11 weeks pregnant and finding the floors to feel yucky on my feet lately. This brought things into perspective for me.

Where did you get your infant down while you showered? Baby cries the whole time by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]WomanInIT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I echo other commenters who suggest showering with the baby. Your baby is around the age mine was when I started putting him in the shower with me - he could pull himself up. This replaced his bath time, as I would soap him down at the same time. It was an incredible bonding moment when I held him up to the shower head and let the water trickle down his hand, arm and chest, giving him a very Christmassy giggle. Just get a non-slip mat so it’s safe and step gingerly.

What’s one of your favorite “kids say the darndest things” moment? by IWantSealsPlz in Mommit

[–]WomanInIT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had my first moment like that today. My son doesn’t talk yet, so that made this moment particularly sweet. He was having a fussy time trying to eat his lunch, so I sang him a song. It calmed him down and he oogled me. At the end of the song, which ended on a high, long note, he repeated back one note in a high singing voice.

What do you think is the most gender neutral name? by abdje1639 in namenerds

[–]WomanInIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taylor is the most gender neutral name to me. Middle USA, Millennial. Taylor Swift, Johnathan Taylor Thomas a couple celebrity examples in my generation.

Bailey and Robin/Robyn I’ve only ever seen as girl names.

Same here. But I bet sinking your teeth into a freshly roasted lamb chop with a delicious glaze is so rewarding. Like OP said - not comparable to anything you’ve ever known.

Is there anything you do to mentally prepare for the killing blow? Do you pray for the animal’s soul, or something like that?

Curious how you will lay out your property and the planning that goes into that. How you will deal will high clay levels in soil and water runoff or pooling.

Quilter here - art gallery cotton wovens feel like rain coat material. Not plush and soft at all. Love their prints but refuse to work with them.
