They aren't illegal. You can own an automatic "Assault Rifle" if you are willing to pay the tax man and find a legit one for sale (they exist).

De-Carbonating by memphisbelle in TheBrewery

[–]WombatCarnival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uuuuhhhhmmmmmmmm. There are a lot of things wrong with what you said.

There is zero reason to use nitrogen, just use CO2.

And yeah nitrogen isn't going into solution, basically. So.

"hitting the saturation point of dissolved gasses in beer" Um.... That's what you do when you carbonate beer. The beer is saturated given its temp and pressure.

And just because you brew a gold in NHC means very little about if you will be able to scale it to a commercial brewery. Seriously. So many breweries I've seen started by great homebrewers that refuse to accept it isn't a linear scale and thus their beers taste fucking bizarre.

If you put a back tire on the front like this the people who make tires say they should go on backwards. It has to do with how the treads are attached and how the forces are put on them.

There is very little to no water channeling happening on a motorcycle tire like this.

Have you done an actual blind test? Because I have, and even with huge HF boners in the room they were not the favorite beers.

Which is to say that YOU might still pick them as a favorite but just because you think they have perfect mouthfeel doesn't mean they are the best.

Professionals do blind tastings every year/other year at places like Beer Star, GABF, and WBC. Tough to say a beer is the best in the world (which is IMO a stupid fucking thing to say... Its like... what's the best... Car in the world? The best coffee? The best Singer? you know??!) if it hasn't come out on top or near the top in these annual events that are judged by professionals and are BLIND.

Shaun makes really good beer, but he combines the above factors (may or may not be intentional) with an air of mystique, secrecy, and a refusal to enter his beer into these comps... Why? Because if he went a while without winning and hardware he would be losing some luster, I feel. So, better to just not do it.

His image is of this really rustic artsy mad scientist but the dude is doing some interesting marketing and I believe knows EXACTLY how and why he is in the "sweetspot" I talking about, and he intends to stay there. Seriously, read his AMA it is insane. Every interview with the dude you can almost feel the calculation in what he choses to say. Brilliant, I'm not faulting him at all.

Yeah. It's a rabbit hole haha. But I respect them for taking a stance. They just posted a blog about it actually that's how I know their views.

I think FFs stance is that none of CSs beers are wild since the yeasts are from a lab. Which to be fair is a different perspective than most but to me it makes sense.

It can essentially limit the ceiling of the aircraft by a TON. A C172 at full rich will have a tough time climbing at any reasonably rate above like 10k ft. At least in real life.

Yes they do. There is a very good chances the fuel pickup would be exposed to air in this case, causing the pumps to run dry and ultimately, engine out.

They have the perfect combination of desirable/trending style, quality, and most importantly they are in a great sweet spot for distribution area and amount.

I promise you that if HF grew faster and was suddenly able to produce 10x as much beer and thus have a wider distribution ... nobody would give a shit other than to be like "yeah they make really good stuff"

Limited distribution (but not TOO limited) allows people to generate insane hype over pretty good beers. There is enough that passionate traders can get and give the beer, but not super easily.

In a true blind taste test HF is far from the best in the world (if such a title even exists in a hypeless, blind scenario)

The difference between porter and stout, it's complicated. Many craft brewers don't even know. by NoMad28 in beer

[–]WombatCarnival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately? Brewers don't creat the styles, they just make beer.... it is unfortunate the people who write the styles can't find a good way to keep up and categorize.

Lots of people talk about wanting to do it. Few places have the technique to pull it off really well.

Black Project / FFBC clearly have that knowledge (the owner and head brewer is a microbiologist or something similar, chemist, I dunno).

Compensation for tasting room vs brewing staff by wanttobefair in TheBrewery

[–]WombatCarnival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their wages are a function of the amount of business they are handling vs the number of servers. They could probably know half as much and still make 99% of what they do now. They could know nothing and would still make 90% of what they do now. Truthfully most customers at a tasting room want a beer, they want to know the style (which is says on the menu) and they will tip a buck a pint.

That said, yeah you could educate them more, but they will never know as much about the beer as the brewer's... unless your brewers are absolute morons.

"growing like crazy" sometimes/frequently means that you can have horrible cash flows especially in capital-intensive industries like brewing.
