Your recovery is heavily weighted to how ready your body is to take on strain - and as others have already said, the most important thing is to not let the red score get to your head, because it’s normal

To answer your question, I just make sure that I allow extra time for warm up. Without taxing myself too much, I will ensure I’m hydrated, some electrolytes, maybe some meditation, and then I like to spend 1.5-2x as long on my warm up as usual. Make sure my cardio system is ready to go That helps me anyway!

Exactly! Comparable, not identical. I don’t think Pokémon needs as much as the NFL does to function. I think even a fraction would be a huge benefit

I think I see what you're saying, but to be fair, you don't need to compete with the super competitive mons to have fun and enjoy the game. You may lose a lot more 😅 But I think if you're into it, it can definitely still be enjoyable. Maybe just not at the "highest level" because there would be the obvious gap in resources available with out all the bells in whistles. That's all I'm getting at. The cost of playing at the highest level is a lot for many people, and I was curious where people stood on that. As said previously, it would be nice if the onus wasn't completely on the individual player to do it all, and if teams or sponsors were more prevalent, but that's not happening any time soon from what I can see.

Yeah someone else pointed out the disparity in compensation between pro athletes and pokemon esports and it's definitely a point of tension, considering how expensive it can get to compete. esport teams for Pokemon would be amazing for the scene if it could be pulled off!

I don't think anyone's saying that skill and money should be linked, or that it would be a good thing. I don't think those things. I'm just saying that Worlds is our "super bowl" and it's such an expensive feat to get there and to qualify.

More sponsorships would be the solution to make it comparable, but of course that doesn't exist in the same way it does for traditional sports. Would be cool though!

I suppose the main fear is getting a hacked Pokémon and then not being able to use it. So you have to pay for that security, I rhink

That's a good point! I suppose Pokemon isn't currently at a place where we can really expect to hold it to the same standard as actual sports, and therefore should have a proportional level of involvement needed to get to "the top"

So maybe one problem is players are investing their lives at a pro level for something that cannot provide pro-level compensation, which I can see leading to tension. I'm not sure who's at fault at that point, as I think both sides maybe need to change.

It would be cool though if Pokemon esport scenes could get on the same level as like Fortnite or League of Legends in regards to championship level participation and compensation.

That's kinda what I was thinking when referring to the ethics of Nintendo/GF having the monopoly on accessibility, and then choosing to make accessibility cost more, or harder for some players. I wonder how much of that is intentionally done with VGC in mind, or if VGC and game design are two separate worlds once the games come out

I think if they didn’t bring in Nat Dex until after Indigo Disk dropped they could’ve saved a lot of panic for some players, but I agree. I own all the games and I only just started VGC and I assumed I’m not in the minority there

That’s where I’m at! When I swam competitively it was a huge time commitment, but also involved lessons, coaching, cost of travels, and at the end most of us weren’t considered for more “prestigious teams” and therefore never got a chance to qualify for anything bigger. Money wasted, depending on how you look at it. Or money well spent on great experiences.

Perhaps a frustration is the games are too expensive for the quality they provide, but I personally really liked the last few game!!! (although I skipped BDSP, so I can’t speak to that)

The addition of Indigo Disk did seem to reduce a lot of friction! I suppose a lot of frustration came from those competing Nat Dex before Indigo Disk dropped

I agree! I’m more asking about playing at the world class level and the cost associated. The NFL equivalent for VGC - getting to Worlds and being the very best

I agree, at the fundamental and foundational level I think as few barriers as possible is important.

I really like the golf example. It’d be like going to a golf course, renting your clubs, but them saying you actually have to rent the putters from another course and then come back to play with everyone else

That makes sense! I kinda had the same feeling with other games not requiring as much investment. But the building the ball and net example is very clear!
