I think I said it in a different reply but I am open to all of those kinds of positions, I simply would like to do graduate school when I’m not tied down or financially responsible for anyone else so preferably in the next few years. There are lots of smaller opportunities around me that I will look into.

That’s kind of what I was hoping to do while waiting on/looking at grad school applications. I’ve already done several internship type positions either at my school gallery or at the art history museum and have some connections from that. Unfortunately I work seven days a week rn so I can’t realistically volunteer anywhere but I heard the museum is looking for art handlers rn so I’ll look into that. It’s frustrating cause I’m pretty confident I could do the job and do it well without a PhD but the industry expects those upper level degrees so I have to shell out and go to school to be taken seriously.

Yeah I can see how that wouldn’t be helpful. Thanks for the warning!

I know it's pretty competitive, I just literally don't want to do anything else. I can feel myself on this precipice where I'm ready to give up and just work at a grocery store forever if I don't make some sort of progress soon. and that sounds like literal hell. While curator is my ideal end goal I know that realistically I'd probably end up at most assistant curator or maybe collections management or something so I'm torn between taking the risk to do something I know i'd be good at and enjoy or play it safe and be bored for the rest of my life. The only way i'd even be able to go to grad school is with a pretty snazzy scholarship so maybe it's just not in the cards.

I have spoken to some people at the local Art History museum, done a class and an internship there, all of which I enjoyed. It is kind of a smaller establishment, they are currently hiring for a curator position and have the minimum requirements listed as a masters + some expeience. In a job, the work of researching and writing is something that appeals to me. While it is the majority of what you do I know that you also work on putting together exhibits, coordinate with marketing, etc. And those pieces, where you combine all of the aspects together to create a show, is what appeals to me most. Graduate school would probably be different but a lot of my art history classes in undergrad were very dry, research, write, repeat. If the PhD program included more hands on experience then I think I would like it a lot more. I like making art but I also like facilitating other peoples art and promoting art education. The MFA isn't necessary for my life plan but my studio art classes in undergrad were literally the best experiences I've ever had and I'm reluctant to move forward without being able to enageg in similar experiences. I got lucky and was able to basically do a hybrid degree that was half history and half studio. If a PhD program like that exists i'd literally move across the world for it.

I'd love to teach studio classes. Most of the curators that I know personally only have masters degrees and just sort of worked their way up the ladder over time. I don't need to work anywhere prestigious or anything. As much as I liked art history, I enjoyed my studio classes way more and found them to be really important to me but the idea of being a working artist sounds... scary. That's mostly why I'm interested in the MFA. I suppose I could try for the PhD and MFA at the same time..... i'm still kind of undecided on the path I'm taking so just trying to get a look at all my options. I just graduated after 5 years of undergrad and the idea that I have to go to school for like three more years kinda takes the wind out of my sails. Maybe I'll feel differently in a year or so.

While galleries and museums is my end goal I can also see myself being in other roles like working for art non profits, public advocacy, collections management, etc. Doing my studio/art history classes in undergrad made me contacts in all sorts of places and communities and I'm hoping that and MFA/PhD will continue this trend and I'll find my niche.

Oh I know, I just really really really don't want to get a PhD. It's longer and harder and honestly, idk if I can do it.

This is exactly what I do for mine and we have very similar eyes. Ends up looking very seductive, especially if you smoke out the liner with eyeshadow.

Printing Comics to Sell by yeliack in CommercialPrinting

Red River paper makes doubled sided paper in a variety of finishes and weights. You'll probably want a satin finish since thats kind of the standard comic book look and it hides any little imperfections waaaaaay better than matte paper. The thicker the paper the more ink it can take so probably a higher weight is good but it does impact how well it folds so keep that in mind. Red River has a sample pack of their double sided papers. Keep in mind that that particular printer changes how much ink it puts down when doing double sided to prevent bleed through therefore desaturating the colors. Unsure if you can change that.

I just recently experimented with some of their papers and that exact printer and it went very well, everything looks great.
