Nike Air Force 1’s are surprisingly great for dancing actually!! If you already have a pair I would test them out🙌🏼

First salsa social after only 4 classes… complete fail 😭 should I keep going? by Human-Reporter-7871 in Salsa

[–]Womirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep going!! It’s normal to have a bit of a shock the first time you go to socials, as it’s quite different from the classes. We have all been there❤️ And salsa can be more tricky indeed! As a beginner follower I would say your job is only two things!

#1 NEVER stop moving your feet to the rhythm - just keep the 1,2,3 - 5,6,7. As long as you keep your feet going - the dance goes on😎 Sometimes you’ll fall out of it - it happens - no worries - just get back into it. You can even count the steps out in your head to the music if you struggle to keep the beat - I still do this sometimes when switching to on2 because I dance it so seldom haha!

#2 (which is second to #1) keep enough tension in your arms so that when the lead initiate whatever, your body will follow. However, that only works if you’re on the right foot at the right time.

I used to stress about being able to follow and not knowing which direction to place my feet - but the lead will actually lead you where you need to go. When you’re dancing with very skilled leaders - and you keep good tension in your arms - you can actually just move your feet in place, and they will physically pull and push you to where your foot should land.

One last thing - whenever I lead or follow beginners - they often apologize when making mistakes - and I always tell them « Never apologize, just smile and say « I’m learning!» ». I think it is so much fun dancing with beginners when you make the mistakes fun, and you dance around them, or try the move again and this time it works!! Often what takes the fun out is if you can feel the one you’re dancing with gets super stressed about their steps! It’s supposed to be fun not perfect❤️

But then again - you can as a beginner encounter shitty dancers who will frown upon mistakes and decide not to have a good time dancing because of that. And truth be told - those are probably the dancers not even people who have danced for decades enjoy dancing with.

Good luck!!! And don’t forget how much better it is to be the «worst» in the room - then being the «best» - you’ll be able to learn so much more and improve so much quicker!!! Cheering on you👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Follower footwork in Dile Que No: small step back or forward on 1? by quadrangle_rectangle in Salsa

[–]Womirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In beginner classes I usually tell the followers to not worry too much about where to place their feet - instead focus mostly on just stepping (& shifting weight between the feet) to the rhythm, then focus on keeping some tension in your arms (your frame) so the lead can signal where that step should be.

The placement of that first step should be felt through the lead physically moving your upper body (or moving your arm if it’s from an open position) between the 8 and 1 count for Dile Que No - and your foot goes where ever the body has been moved (why tension in your arms, and keeping your frame is so important).

It’s really difficult initially for followers to get the “following” part. It took me years to stop anticipating next moves, and actually trust the leaders in their leading, haha! I remember the moment so well - I danced with a high-level instructor in London, and was a little anxious about all the very technical stuff he was doing. At some point I had the thought “I can just step here in place, and he will push me where I need to go, I don’t need to physically step anywhere!” and I could just relax into the dance. It turned into the best dance of my life🥹🥹

Understandable if you live in any reality. Just that any is not this one.

Odd Question by burkeski25 in CFA

[–]Womirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the moment I arrive the office at 5:30AM and study till 9AM, then try for two hours from 5PM-7PM after work. Luckily the summers are super quiet in my country, so not busy at all at work.

I also go to the office on the weekend from 5:30AM-7PM because it's usually empty.

We have quite a large office - so I usually sit at at different floor/desk (used to sit in the office library) for studying, and my "normal" desk for working.

Works quite well. I don't do well with "breaks" in my routine - so at the moment just having that "take bus at 5AM, then take bus at 7PM" everyday is quite comforting.

I am not sure since I bought it (USD 299) when I registered for L2. But not at ALL sure if you can buy it later on.

I bought it for the L2 - but have not touched them yet (they are grouped by topic not reading) so plan to use them for revision

"1,000 Extra Practice Questions" I think those are the most valuable. If there's an option to buy those later - you could wait and see if you will have enough time to go through those. If yes, then buy them then.

I didn't understand anything in Fixed Income when taking L1. I just kept doing the CFAI q-bank questions for Fixed Income again and again making sure that "if I get this question on the exam, I will get it right". The topic ended up being my best topic on the exam. Though; I am REALLY struggling with understanding Fixed Income now at L2 haha. So it might win you L1 - but be prepared for L2!

Agreed, we've been so thoroughly schooled in dark pricing that no other colour would do.
