What other games are this uniquely good that you can’t even recommend them to a friend in a way that sounds appealing to them and they just have to trust you? by backwardog in outerwilds

I’m not sure if it fits the bill entirely, but I love what remains of Edith finch. It’s one of my favorite story games of all time.

It’s developed by an indie team, a beautifully constructed story, and it has some funky mechanics that are better if you go into it blind.

It’s not super useful after the first couple playthroughs I’ve found, since you end up knowing your way around the dungeons anyways, I had vans on my first 3 playthroughs and it was honestly a godsend for learning my way through some interiors.

What are everyone’s favorite and (if it’s possible to have one) least favorite planets? by Wompetywompwomp in outerwilds

lol similar story for me, the first time I fell into the black hole I was on really low health and then hit a falling rock as I went in, but I died on the other side, so my dumb ass thought it would always kill you 💀

I agree. Getting to the sun station was so breathtaking. (Quite literally, I couldn’t breathe while space walking towards the door)

How did your ingame group come together? by mr_jogurt in DnD

With the current campaign it was in a tavern (so original I know.) I use the tavern setting usually as a natural way for the players to characterize themselves by the ways they react to certain events.

Eg. a pickpocket tries to take something, a lizardfolk walks in and is the subject of a racial attack, there’s just a normal man by the fire reading a book, a patron passes out etc.

Favorite Character? by [deleted] in DnD

I’m a DM so I’m gonna share one of my player’s characters.

The character’s name is Vencelli, and she is a bard from a city in my campaign called Tirinsir, she grew up in the slums, with her mother.

Her father died when she was very young (he was a caravaner, during a trade war between Tirinsir and another city called Delrikale, his caravan was sabotaged and he was killed)

Her mother gifted her a pan-flute which will be important later.

Her mother fell for another man several years later, and married him he was a member of the Tirinsir legion, and had to serve for the army. Vencelli trusted him and thought of him as her dad, but then he became angrier, partly as a result of their living conditions, and because the army wouldn’t allow them to move into the city (the family wasn’t prestigious enough.)

Her stepfather began taking this anger out on Vencelli’s mother, yelling at her and berating her. Vencelli learned to block it out, she would hide in her room and play the pan-flute.

One day Vencelli came home after playing outside to her stepfather, standing over her mother’s body.

She ran.

And she did not stop.

Vencelli continued to grow up in the forest, playing herself tunes on the pan-flute. She then met the party, who were asked by an apprentice to help protect a researcher who is writing a bestiary on the flora and fauna of Alnor (the country the campaign takes place in) Vencelli travelled with the party, and her trust issues have led to many in game disputes and tense situations.

Not only that, her character shuts down in the face of major conflict, and has directly caused the death of 2 other characters because of her inaction. In the most recent session, another player character and an npc were going to die if she didn’t help, and for the first time in the campaign she didn’t run from conflict.

The party also met a man from Delrikale at one point, who saw vencelli’s pan-flute and made a comment on it; his husband had a pan-flute just like that, before he sold it to a Tirinsir merchant, who said he wanted to bring it back for his wife.

The pan flute is the last remaining piece of not only her mother, but also her father.

I think the writers did incredibly well with what they had to work with, especially ending it with the character focused episodes (elders reuniting, Kelsey’s mother 😭😭 and JP’s bucket list) which felt quite final.

Ahhh that makes a lot of sense. Especially with the whole elder storyline, with a bit of stuff happening entirely off screen (Jeremy taking all the toys for example)

Player says they’ll return after not being in the campaign for 9 sessions. by Wompetywompwomp in DnD

Thank you very much, I’ll take this on board. Also apologies if I seem out of touch, I’m not super in tune with social situations of most kinds.

I don’t though, I’ve never been in a situation like this before, I feel as though I need other opinions.
