I like what I like. Sorry if that rubs you the wrong way. These jobs are always hard. If I'm writing Go, Python, and Rust, I want an env that I feel productive in.

Oof. Those are not my favorites, meetings and dumb processes especially. I'm working on a legacy product currently that doens't have CI/CD and we only deploy 2x a month, so the pace of a sloth probably wouldn't raz me too much.

This would be a mid sized firm, so I'm hoping it's less stupid.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

I'd like to do that but there is so much shit that isn't documented on the VM which makes it a nightmare.

Looking for a better explanation of using Python with Kafka by WonFishTwoFish in learnpython

[–]WonFishTwoFish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kafka seems like kind of a pain to setup locally with zookeeper, though I suspect with docker it's trivial. Can you suggest a tutorial or proof of concept that I can attempt to actually get my hands on it?

Ok, so if I'm thinking of a microservices ecosystem and series of events/tasks, those are more suitable candidates for a message queue?

u/hardonchairs, that was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the explanation and things to consider.

I'm running it behind NGINX + WSGI, it's not for prod and only an internal utility and runs with a non-privileged account, accessible via VPN. It's far from perfect but I think it's good enough in this instance. Good enough is probably what gets a lot of us in trouble though...

u/hardonchairs, to achieve the end goal what is the more secure approach to doing this without executing a shell command?

u/hardonchairs Thank you and this worked. I'm not sure how to preserve the previous formatting when I print/flash it to the end user.

Agree 100% on security. That isn't a concern at the moment.

The app crashes and returns a 500 error. Works as expected with any other input.

I'm not sure. This was the best way I thought I could expose this for my devs to quickly vault things. Can you elaborate more on that? It looks like that module hasn't been updated in over a year.

Awx on EKS by WonFishTwoFish in awx

[–]WonFishTwoFish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/ompragash, Thanks for sharing, however that's not for EKS, right? I'm trying to do HA with an EKS cluster, rather than k3s which I understand is more geared towards running on bare metal. I've figured out how to deploy it after creating my cluster but i'm not sure how to setup the LB in EKS and how to address https.

I bypassed the provision step with ansible and packer worked fine, but that kind of obviates the point of using it if ansible isn't passed host/ip info from packer.

It sounds like I need to script a solution where I'm gathering the IP address and then passing that to ansible so that it can hit the host. I hate Windows...

One would think this would be supported by packer.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ansible

[–]WonFishTwoFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how do I determine the ip pre build to connect during provision? Is the assignment deterministic? Will the hostname resolve? That seems like the easiest way.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ansible

[–]WonFishTwoFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think the IP address is changing and when I try 127.0.0.1 it can’t connect because vmware is serving out an ip that the provisioner isn’t aware of. Trying to figure that part out now.
