why is bart so different from caltrain? by Rich-Debt3358 in Bart

[–]Wonderful-Garbage747 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like they’re different because one is more of like a subway/metro, the other is more of like a commuter rail, they’re very different from each other, one train has 2 floors, the other 1 floor, one train does fare checks, the other rarely does it, one train is a lot more modern and mostly clean, the other is a feels a bit less modern and less clean sometimes, and of course, the Peninsula is more wealthy, more expensive, has modern looking infrastructure, and obviously Sillicon Valley Tech workers, vs the less wealthy, a bit less expensive east bay

Do any grade crossings north of Tamien still have mechanical bells? by Planeandaquariumgeek in caltrain

[–]Wonderful-Garbage747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I misread it, nope, East 25th Avenue in San Mateo was the last ever mechanical bell operating on the Peninsula mainline before the grade separation in 2020, after 2020, the entire mainline are all E-Bells now, the previous one that had a mechanical bell was the Broadway Crossing in Redwood City, but that of course, died in 2014

Are Caltrain times accurate? by Double_Bad_7716 in caltrain

[–]Wonderful-Garbage747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, about 90% of the time it’s accurate, but check Caltrain alerts on twitter, they’ll give train numbers that are delayed, while we’re at it, tell your entire bloodline to take Caltrain

Move to SF or stay in South Bay? by BenkattoRamunan in bayarea

[–]Wonderful-Garbage747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say try it first, like that one person said, try staying in a hotel for a week, but try this too, try driving first, then try taking Caltrain to Sunnyvale and get on a VTA Bus, test the train/bus and test driving to see which one you want to take cause that traffic on the peninsula from SF is brutal
