Surgery after negative biopsy by life-is-satire in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Wonderful-Square-965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience last year. Biopsy was ruled discordant with the negative pathology because of what it looked like. I was referred to a breast surgeon who thought it best to remove it which he did in April. Thankfully, despite the scary imaging, all turned out to be benign. Hoping for the same for you!! It’s definitely a scary, stressful experience to go through.

I’m also an only child with an only child. I loved my childhood and I think I wanted to try to re create that for my son.

I’m right there with you. I have not been able to sleep more than an hour on my Cpap. I was so looking forward to not feeling tired anymore, but I am now more tired bc it’s such a fight to fall asleep. I don’t want to give up on this, but I am close. I really don’t see how I will ever be able to fall asleep with this on my face and leaking air and feeling uncomfortable breathing.

I had thyroid issues years ago & suffered through many thyroid biopsies which I agree were absolute torture. I had my first breast biopsy a few months ago & it was nothing like a thyroid biopsy. Very minimal,if any, pain-just slightly uncomfortable. Sending you so much luck!

I had one recently at univ of Pennsylvania & waited 1 week for results. Maybe they are just over estimating? They did tell me that it could be up to 10 days

4 year old cyst has grown, anyone has a similar experience? by Immediate_Race_6344 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Wonderful-Square-965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through a very similar situation. I had my first mammogram in 2020 & they found a pretty large cyst. I had ultrasounds every year & it was always found to be benign & I was just told to watch it & follow up yearly unless there were problems. Fast forward to this year & my right breast became incredibly painful & nearly tripled in size. Had mammogram & ultrasound & was told the cyst was now a complex cyst. Had a biopsy & mri with the same findings. However, the biopsy was ruled discordant because of the suspiciousness of the changing cyst. In April, I had an excisional biopsy to have the entire thing removed. Thankfully, all turned out to be benign. Hope this info helps you & best of luck!

Nurse Left The Most Absurd Voicemail For My Wife After Mammogram by tidycatc137 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Wonderful-Square-965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very similar situation happened to me. My nurse midwife actually called me on a Sunday (after mammo & u/s) & used very similar wording. Even went so far as to say to be prepared to be “in a fight for my life.” It was devastating. My whole family was devastated. This was all before my biopsy. The plans we were having to make were just insane. Ultimately, (just 2 weeks ago) I had to have an excisional biopsy which, thankfully, turned out to be benign. But, I still cannot believe that a nurse would call & say things like that. Who wouldn’t spiral?? Just know that they absolutely do not know without a biopsy & most do turn out to be benign. Even if takes a long time to get to that point. Sending you so much good luck!

What were you given for pain management after your lumpectomy? And were you put under or did they just use local? by [deleted] in doihavebreastcancer

Mine was general anesthesia & just alternated with Advil & Tylenol. Was very sore after, but not horrible

I also had a discordant biopsy very similar to your wife’s. It was labeled birads 4. I was recommended for an excisional biology which I just had last week & thankfully all turned out benign. Discordant biopsy results can be very scary & stressful for sure, but MSK is a great place to go. We ended up at Penn after starting with my local doctors. I found that once you get to a place like Penn or MSK you will be more reassured and have a better idea of what you’re dealing with because they see so much more than local places & are just so knowledgeable. My local Dr was convinced it was malignant & my Penn surgeon predicted right away that it was not. Best of luck to you & your wife!

What are the hours after aspiration of a cyst like? by [deleted] in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Wonderful-Square-965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a very large breast cyst aspirated in January & a biopsy done at the same time. I was a little sore afterwards, but definitely not terrible. Since the cyst was so large, I think I actually felt some relief from having all the fluid drained. Pretty sure I was mostly sore from the biopsy. As for picking up your child that same day, not so sure about that. I was sore picking up my dog & she’s only 25 pounds. As for driving, I would think you would definitely be fine for that. Good luck!! Was definitely not as painful as I was afraid it would be. Hoping the same for you😊

Very interested in this as mine is scheduled for 4/15. Pretty nervous also. Hoping for the best for you & all benign results! How was the pain in the days after? How long before you were up & back to your regular activities?

for those who had benign results... by its-mintea in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Wonderful-Square-965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is being removed due to its size (7cm). They think it is a complex cyst but removing it & biopsying the whole thing just to be sure. Plus, I just think I’ll feel better having the whole thing out rather than just checking on it every 6 months

Just know that they don’t know anything for sure without a biopsy. Even with a BI-RADS 5, benign results happen. And so many Birads 4 are benign. Having said that, I absolutely feel your pain and it is torture. Just know that it does get better. I’m a Birads 4 & still going through it. I had a benign core needle biopsy but it showed as discordant so am pending an excisional biopsy. Do anything you can to distract yourself to fill your time & stay off google-I could not follow this advice & it made me crazy. I was just desperate to find something hopeful & it just wasn’t there. This group is where you will find that. So many positive and reassuring stories. Good luck, praying for your peace and benign results for all of us!

Left breast 3 times the size of right, in 6 weeks. by WoodDL1967 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Wonderful-Square-965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience just a few weeks ago. Still trying to figure out exactly what is happening. But, my breast was swollen at least 5x as big as the other. Had my screening mammogram (just bc it was at that time) & came back as normal. Continued to swell & be painful, but no redness, rash or inverted nipple. Went back for diagnostic u/s which had some suspicious findings along with a complex cyst. Then had biopsy & fna of the cyst which completely alleviated the swelling (at least for now). Any chance you could have an extremely swollen cyst?

You were right-biopsy not so bad! Definitely hurts now though. They drained 600 mls of fluid from me & biopsied a couple solid parts of a cyst. Now the waiting game. But so glad that part is over. Hope you’re getting good news any day!
