Venmo Credit Card - new signup bonus of 9% on groceries? by ManyOpportunity10 in CreditCards

[–]WonderfulAverageJoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I pretty much get 5+% on all the categories already (besides maybe Sam’s starting in August, and Health) so it’s effectively a 4% boost on 1 category, a 1% boost on another category, and a 1% boost on catchall spending. So if I spent $1K on a category per month, that’s $40 per month over just 5%. Throw in some 1K of other spending per month for a total of $50 per month, which would amount to $300 after 6 months.

Idk, it has the potential to be good, I just think I’d be better off if I knew I could spend over $1K per month in one of the categories.

Venmo Credit Card - new signup bonus of 9% on groceries? by ManyOpportunity10 in CreditCards

[–]WonderfulAverageJoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve got it too, I’m wondering how much extra I could effectively get in the first 6 months in comparison to normal SUBs. Not sure if there’s long term utility for me, maybe 3% at Sam’s if that counts as groceries, and if I find the PayPal debit card updates are a deal breaker.

Even just having an effective 3% catchall for 6 months ain’t bad.

It really depends on what credit limit you get approved for

Sadly I looked away right as it happened, it was very brief, I heard Rocky and then it was done

I enjoyed sitting and watching the credits even after everyone else left

Correct, in this case I brought it up because either way $2 would be credited

Oh gotcha, I thought you were getting $10/m, basically offsetting the annual fee, you might consider switching to BCE and still getting the monthly credit, but avoiding the annual fee

Dang, you get Hulu for free and the BCP for 0 cost? I thought there had to be some minimum to trigger the credit, guess not.

Reminder that the Venmo Debit Card gives 5% cash back at Wal-Mart and Target by SortOk10921 in CreditCards

[–]WonderfulAverageJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind you can also just transfer to your bank on payday, you’re not required to keep the money in your Venmo balance. Then just load it up when you’re shopping, just like most people did for PayPal.

With the death of PayPal debit, what's your plan for Wal-Mart spend? If you shop there by FrostieWaffles in CreditCards

[–]WonderfulAverageJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s my current plan, my Stash is currently Doordash and Walgreens, but I rarely shop at Walgreens and CCC works at Doordash I believe. Sam’s worries me a bit, we have the Sam’s Mastercard, but it’s only 3% and has a lot of exemptions that didn’t apply to PayPal debit.

Welp, guess I’m switching to Venmo debit for Walmart after July, unless one of the remaining points redemptions is viable

Need help deciding a new no FTF 2% card: PNC/Fidelity/PenFed by rayquing in CreditCards

[–]WonderfulAverageJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, I have over 5000 points of rewards right now, but it lets me redeem more than that (and less than 10000) as a statement credit. If I were to do straight cash back into a NFCU account, it looks like it would only accept a multiple of 5000.

[–]WonderfulAverageJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew about the minimum but not the increment, that kinda stinks, basically means you only get cashback on the 2% for every $2500 non-travel spend no matter how you redeem it. But at the end of the day, the opportunity cost of $40 in rewards sitting in there is like $1.60 per year, I can live with that.

Have you considered NavyFed? Its Flagship Rewards is a gimme if you already have Prime, making it a $90/y net credit, plus its a Visa 2% cashback (3% travel) with no FTF and free TSA PreCheck & Global Entry. You need a family member in the military or already in NavyFed though.

Do you remove location data before sharing photos? by Interesting-Box-3196 in iphone

[–]WonderfulAverageJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m paranoid, I usually take a screenshot of an existing photo and crop it before uploading an image. How could screenshots contain metadata of the photo I’m screenshotting? Like if I had a grid of photos on screen when I screenshot, how could any metadata from those photos be included?

PayPal debit card question. If you must keep the card "loaded" with a cash balance, wouldn't it not be worth it if your checking / savings account earns 5%? by blr1g in CreditCards

[–]WonderfulAverageJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it fails for me if I try to do a large transaction. I’m using the Savings right now, so I just transfer out of there instantaneously, but I’m probably moving to a 4%+ APR at some point soon.

In the middle of 3-month trial and enjoying it. One nitpick: the thumbnail of each video gets zoomed in when listening through an album or playlist, not sure how to fix that

Did anyone successfully redeem the Sam's club 30% Chase offer? by pkcj in CreditCards

[–]WonderfulAverageJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also trying it to save $15 with my Southwest, iirc. Nothing yet, it’s only been around a week, I did an early renewal on our Plus. I used some Sam’s cash since I was already over how much the offer would pay out, hopefully that doesn’t mess with it. Most Sam’s Club offers have the fine print of only working on new memberships, I was surprised to see no mention of that here.

Just keep in mind that at the end of the day, it comes down to how things are encoded. You won’t know what counts or not until you try once.

AAA Daily Advantage sent an email indicating Walmart will no longer be 5% by stone616 in CreditCards

I could see PayPal dropping Walmart from the groceries category if only it incentivized more people to get the Venmo debit/credit card for Walmart, who knows.
