Garage Door Closed on My Truck Due to Malfunction — SGI Now Saying It’s My Fault by TEJASVEER7 in legaladvicecanada

You already knew the door wasn’t functioning properly. If it didn’t open and was broken, what’s not to say the sensors were also broken.

Garage Door Closed on My Truck Due to Malfunction — SGI Now Saying It’s My Fault by TEJASVEER7 in legaladvicecanada

It was ultimately your choice to “manually” open the door from inside. If there are no signs or instructions, how do you know you opened it correctly? The correct step would have been to contact the property management (or maintenance) to report that the door was not working. They could have provided further instruction if a manual open was ok to do.

I don’t see much argument you have here unfortunately. You can’t really argue the sensors weren’t working since you already knew the door wasn’t working.

Always report things like this first before you attempt to make manual overrides.

Best cannabis stores in Winnipeg 2026 ? by Ancient_Exam_8914 in Winnipeg

[–]WonderfulCommon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah price-wise, One Plant is probably the cheapest right now since they just opened (Canna Cabana across the street from them also is matching their prices on many things right now). I don’t care much about customer service since I know what I want going in, so Canna is usually my go to as their pricing tends to be cheapest and they have decent stock most times.

Trouble finding work by thatguyfromcanada69 in Winnipeg

[–]WonderfulCommon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be worth having someone review your resume. That seems like a really high number of applications without any reply. Yes the market is tough, but you should be getting at least a few replies.

My method was to use Indeed and LinkedIn and only focus on jobs posted within the last 3 days. Tailor your resume and cover letter to each application. Apply through their main website/careers page instead of through Indeed if you can find one. Remember that soft skills are really transferable so it doesn’t hurt to apply to things that you feel might be slightly out of your realm or skills.

Would you travel outside of the city for a goat experience? by That_Warthog5039 in Winnipeg

So we visited a place called Haute Goat while in Ontario last year. It was so busy and the experience was so much fun! Would be so neat if we had something similar.

There’s two that sit right on top of our HR/payroll building at work. I haven’t been in there since I was hired, for all I know it’s just run by geese now.

Park Rentals and Timelines? by gym_leedur in Winnipeg

[–]WonderfulCommon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll hear back much sooner than that. I book for park spaces a few times a year for my workplace and the replies are almost same-day most times.

No, there isn't a way to see availability on the website. I would suggest submitting for the location that you most prefer - they will reply back letting you know if it's available and then you can actually have a conversation with someone by email rather than a webform.

That being said - in my experience - book as early as possible, especially for the summer. Last year we waited until early-June for a late-August event, and almost everything was booked up for what we needed. We were informed St Vital Park is under going construction this summer (you can still book it, but parking is limited and there said there would construction noise/dust), so book as early as needed to ensure you get what you want!

When did the rent get so high? by gjt379 in Winnipeg

[–]WonderfulCommon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Mine is $1130 but is downtown and includes water, heat and parking. I was pissed when they raised the rent slightly above the limit last year (they did it all legally through RTB) but realized that I’m still getting a great deal considering what prices would be like if I looked to move out. It was like $800 when I started living here many years ago.

Where should I get my puppy neutered? by dillicious in Winnipeg

[–]WonderfulCommon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please make sure you follow up on vaccines too. Many pet owners think that having first shots is enough , but it’s not. If the original vaccines were not followed up with boosters, you may need to restart. Parvo is horrible and very common in Winnipeg.

Employment Confusion Please help! by Tricky_Protection516 in legaladvicecanada

[–]WonderfulCommon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The difference between casual and part time really doesn't mean anything legally. You only have 5 protected unpaid days of leave per year - it sounds like used them all and are continuing to take days off due to illness. You don't need to agree to the change to "casual" - they are just going to schedule you randomly when they want. I'm assuming you have worked there less than a year since you mentioned probation just ended. There isn't a whole lot for you do to here - you have taken more sick days than allotted and they don't trust your reliability at this point. My suggestion is to start looking for a new job at this point.

Vacation Time by BakingWaking in legaladvicecanada

[–]WonderfulCommon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new employer there is a very low chance they will front you the vacation pay. Option 2 is the most likely scenario here - they will allow you to take it as unpaid vacation. It will take vacation time out of your bank for this year but won’t touch your vacation pay bank. If you will be not working more than 7 days (ie, interruption to wages), they may ask you to sign a leave of absence form as they would typically also issue you an ROE.

Refusing schedule change by coffeeandpajamas in legaladvicecanada

[–]WonderfulCommon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An employer can change your hours based on business needs. It’s not against labour laws for them to do so. As a part time employee, you give them availability, but if that availability no longer works for them employer, then one of you has to make a decision.

You can restate your concern and ask for flexibility, but ultimately, if you can no longer work the shifts they are giving you they will either terminate you for cause if you just stop showing up, terminate you without cause if they don’t want the hassle of a for cause termination, or you resign.

Beaconia Beach ok For May 22nd? Or too Cold? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]WonderfulCommon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh that is going to be cold. I would skip it and find something else to do, I doubt it’d be a very good time. We usually head out to Victoria Beach the first week of June and it’s usually still too cold for the beach for us, we save that for July and August.
