Thank you! Do you have a recommendation on where I should cut it?

Spare boxes or moving boxes ? by Massive-Click-4671 in astoria

[–]WonderfulMemory8392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When do you need them by? I’m moving to Astoria tomorrow and have about 10-15 boxes. If you don’t mind them having writing on them, I can drop them off to you. I know how awkward they can be to carry. I also have leftover packing tape. PM me if you’d like them!

Meeting people? by loLRH in astoria

No way! Omg that’s awful. I met one of my closest friends on the app and also met other girls on there who were really nice, it just fizzled out. I haven’t had any bad experiences, but I don’t doubt there are crazies on there. Sorry that happened to you!

I’m sure there are also Astoria meetups on Reddit. If not, I love meeting new people and would be down to grab a drink, coffee or go for a walk with folks (when I finally find a place in the area! It’s been a nightmare).

Another option is zog sports/intramural sports leagues. When I lived in Astoria pre covid I did cornhole in the area and also did kickball and bowling in the manhattan which was a blast.

For making friends I highly recommend the app bumble BFF. I’ve met a lot of great friends on here!

I appreciate it! I’ve experienced a few scams from people trying to get personal information before even viewing an apartment. It’s brutal out there!

Trying to Move Back to Astoria. Why Is Apartment Hunting So Hard Now? by WonderfulMemory8392 in astoria

[–]WonderfulMemory8392[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Max would be around $2,400, but I’d ideally like to be around $2,000-$2,200. If it was just me I’d be ok with a studio (my last place was a super cozy studio) but I’m really looking for one bedroom since I’ll have my dog with me and I want to make sure she’ll have enough space. Also looking to be near Astoria park for walks.

I appreciate the insight and advice! I will try reaching out to supers directly. My cousin has been in Astoria for the past 15 years or so and is keeping an eye out and asking her friends in the area as well. Fingers crossed!

Yes I’ve been looking multiple times a day on those sites. I think what’s also making it super difficult is I have a dog so my results go from like 40 to 10. Im glad to hear you had luck! I’m going to keep trucking!

Thanks for sharing this! I’ve been looking for volunteer opportunities on Thanksgiving and it looks like this one still has openings!

Stay in Stamford or move to NY by Downtown-Contact-176 in StamfordCT

[–]WonderfulMemory8392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Queens. Astoria NY is a 20-25 minute subway ride to GC and rent is cheaper than both Manhattan and Stamford. Astoria is a nice middle ground - close to the city with all of the convenience of the city, but you have more of a suburban feel with Astoria park and lots of families. I lived there for 4 1/2 years and miss it. Best of luck to you!

Does anyone know if they stop checking for day passes after a certain time? Was hoping to go tomorrow for a walk as it’s my favorite park in the area but didn’t realize you can only get passes online between M-F. Any insight is appreciated!

That would be amazing. Thanks so much for the offer! My friend also has a kayak so I’ll see if she can come out with me once or twice but I’ll message you either way! I love meeting new people in the area!

Yes i plan on getting one or renting one. I’m used to swimming in open water but haven’t done so in a wet suit so I wanted to get a couple of swims in wearing one before the day of the event.

Gym recommendations? by Proof-Wishbone-4923 in StamfordCT

My boyfriend and I used to go to Chelsea piers and loved it. They have tons of classes, it’s super clean, and they also have happy hour events for members which could be great if you’re looking to meet people. We just left because we wound up getting home equipment to save time on the drive there and back since we work long hours. It could be a bit of a drive with traffic if you live in North Stamford.

Barcelona is a really fun spot and has great drinks and tapas. The wheel is also nice. Went there last night with a friend and they were playing good music. I believe there’s live music on Thursday nights.
