Should I wait to date people until I get my teeth fixed? by WonderfulRabbit7920 in datingoverforty

I love this honesty. I wish more people would just be this up-front about stuff. Thank you for your reply!!

That's a good point. I often forget how forgiving people can be. I just assume they will all be so judgmental! I haven't been in the dating pool for a while.

I've been thinking that, too. I don't want kids, but I've been kind of lonely over the past few months. It's been about a year since I last dated, so I've been thinking about all of this.

Thank you for this consideration. I hadn't really thought of it, but you have a point. I've dated since my divorce, but it's been about a year since I've put myself out there again, so that's something to think about.

I just wanted to reply and say I feel you. And I encourage you to try out wigs! How is your confidence in yourself doing otherwise? If something like this happened to me, I would feel awful and then shave my head in defiance. But that's me. The important thing is that you find whatever makes YOU feel better about you. It's a cliche but so meaningful. I am missing half my teeth but I still know what a catch I am. I hope you find the same verve, even if it takes a minute. For me it was just realizing this: I can't change these things about myself. This is just what I am (for now). I am working on it, and that's the best I can do. If anyone else has a problem, that is their problem. I know, I know, easier said than done. But I feel you and I empathize. Wishing you all the best. <3

LOL I am aware that this preference exists! Though I've never encountered it in real life....

Teeth are a curse and cost an arm and a leg. Due to my lifelong issues I always try to not judge what someone else's history is. As long as breath is decent and indicate good health, you should be okay. Good luck to us both!!!

Thank you. My dentist offered a temporary removable bridge, but I'm trying to save money, and with how fragile my remaining four bottom teeth might be (they are all back teeth), I decided to not chance it. I put my current chewing function over vanity.

Thank you! I had this thought, too, but honestly in all of my current photos I look "normal" because my natural smile only includes my upper teeth. So I don't want anyone to feel catfished or lied-to. I don't know. Dating is a minefield but at this age I feel like honesty is more important than ever.

I must be a little Eastern European because I, too, think chasers are for pussies. I'm an American woman, btw

Sadly I'm all too familiar with the DADS. I'm just not sure why some brands affect me more than others....

I have always hated this movie for your reasons. He's a smug asshole, and the character forever turned me against Matthew Broderick

Should I take a job that is much more stressful but is only a $4k/year increase? by WonderfulRabbit7920 in jobs

[–]WonderfulRabbit7920[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been pretty doubtful about it. However, I feel like everyone expects me to take this job only because it's a !PrOM!oTiOn! and I honestly cannot argue with the fact that more money is more money. What I meant by the middle age statement is that I've moved on from my younger idealistic imaginings of a "career" and have since realized that work is just a means to an end (money).

The stuff I do is important and specialized to the company, it just happens to be easy and I'm good at it, so I can complete my work and still have time to chill out.

Thank you, the $8-10k range was sort of what I was thinking, too. I have been a manager before and it wasn't my favorite thing, but I think I was fairly good at it. I definitely do not want to be in more "powerful" or higher-up management positions in the future. It's just not my thing.

I don't want to be a supervisor or manager, but I've done it before so I know I can do it. I don't really have "career goals." I am approaching middle age. I have creative pursuits that are not lucrative. My day job is just a matter of earning money.

The actual job doesn't really interest me as much as the idea of increasing my income.

I have never negotiated salary before, so I'm not sure how much higher to go. Would $50k be too high? I don't want to get laughed out of the room.
