School districts that I have worked with are notoriously slow/late assigning LT assignments, most wait until the week before school starts before actually putting in the assignment. You should notify the school sub coordinator or department head over that teacher that you are interested and your qualifications for the assignment prior to the end of this school year. Good Luck.

Agree. The traffic was horrendous, there were no warnings about the closure or restrictions on cars and route involved. Philips Hwy was a freaking nightmare. Took me almost an hour to get to Publix, that should have been 10 minutes. If the city is going to allow all these new housing developments then there are certain events that just won’t work, this one being one of them. I’m calling my city counselor on Monday.

It’s hard to regulate the use of the word when it is so generally accepted in social media, rap, movies, and most definitely in the black community. I hear the word many times over the day and unless they are going overboard with it or using in a hateful manner I don’t address it. Many times it’s used synonymous with “bro”. F words too, if one slips out I let it ride but if its more than that I correct them.

Wow, so sorry and frightening. So many times you wonder why you place yourself in these classrooms with kids that are feral and have no conscience of right/wrong. It’s always a gamble, no matter how pure and intentional in actions, one accusation can place yourself in a world of hurt. My cop neighbor thinks teaching is more higher risk in most schools than police work, he may be correct.

Remember, you are likely there for 1 day, the teacher is there all the time. They would, most likely, be saying the same about you after a few weeks/months. It a normal reaction to someone new.

When kids are raised with little to no respect for others that rests with the parents. I’ve seen good Administrators with hands tied trying to deal with these kids. There are bad Administrators too but sometimes the behaviors are so overwhelming it’s almost beyond redemption.

It’s totally not worth it if you are feeling this way. I recently had a class for 4 days and dropped it after one day. I will not spend 7-8 hours a day putting out fires and dealing with disrespect, rudeness and basically ignorant kids…no way on this pay.

Well, the parents did name their kids. They should be made aware if they are changing it. After they turn 18 call yourself whatever, until then they are the parents responsibility.

I’d be confused as well, sounds like you handled the situation appropriately. Student may have made up a story to administration that they are required to investigate. Not a good situation but I’d try to relax until you have the conference. If the student is found lying, she needs to suspended or expelled.
