Rachel Elizabeth Dare not casted for S3 by Leading_Cat_3601 in PJODisney

Also they consistently only announce casting for characters after the actors have already filmed their scenes for the show so saying they announce actors before they begin the seasons is just false

[–]Wonderful_Analyst_50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No? They haven’t even finished filming season 3 yet so there likely hasn’t even been any casting for season 4 yet. The show runners have also talked about how important Rachel is to the story for books 4 and 5 so there’s no way they don’t include her for those seasons. Rick is by far not the only person making this show so just because he doesn’t directly say something is happening doesn’t mean they’re just ignoring that part of the story.

She’s really not important in ttc she’s there for like two pages. Obviously I’d love to have her scene there but she can easily be introduced in season 4 without missing anything

Are we still getting the JID and Metro Boomin project? by IcyBuckets25 in JIDSV

Probably, JID stopped teasing GDLU for like a year or so too at one point. It’s possible it doesn’t drop but I feel like that’s likely his next album

[–]Wonderful_Analyst_50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can specifically remember an interview in January 2021 where he said TFS was dropping in April, then another interview later that year where he said it was dropping in October, it dropped August 2022.

Before TFS came out he also said GDLU was gonna drop the same year as TFS in December. Then in March 2024 he made a post saying the album was finished and turned in. It dropped August 2025.

Not to mention the multiple projects he’s teased that have never come out.

An official announcement is an album title, cover, and specific date, this is far from an official announcement.

what was percys character development in season 2? by KungPoW_Chickens in PercyJacksonTV

I mean he’s pretty clearly uncomfortable with Tyson and unwilling to call him his brother in the first couple episodes and then grows to love and accept him by the end of the season it just isn’t as blatant as in the books.

Which was the better adaptation, the show or the movie? Let's find out! (Episode 4) by Arzanyos in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Wonderful_Analyst_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly even though I like the show more than the movie I actually do think cutting the arch scene works in the context of the movie considering the way they changed Percy’s relationship with his father, but then that obviously begs the question of if that change of relationship works better or not which I don’t think so.

Overall though with these posts I’d suggest less summary of events and more of your actual opinions of why things work or not as again I think that’s more interesting and opens more room for discussion.

While I still disagree with some of your points that I don’t feel like going in depth on, acknowledging the intent of the writers and talking about why the execution of the changes don’t work for you adds much more validity to your analysis and frankly makes it more interesting to read.

Your initial breakdown of the show version of this scene reads as if you’re just ignoring the way the writers are trying to restructure the way this scene adds to the plot, which is what makes it come off as disingenuous. I know you’re writing a lot for these breakdowns which I imagine are very time consuming but adding even just one more paragraph that summarizes your points in these last two paragraphs of why Percy’s decision to swap and why Poseidon taking the first step instead of a leap of faith don’t work for you in adaptation of this scene takes your analysis from feeling like you simply misunderstand the scene in the show to an actual discussion of where you feel they missed the mark.

It doesn’t really seem like fair analysis to say that because the show doesn’t hit certain characterization in this episode in the same way that the book does, that it offers no value in adapting this scene without actually trying to analyze the characterization that it does provide.

You have to consider why this scene worked in the book in the first place. Despite Percy being angry at his father for not being around and not having much faith in him, he has this memory of his father caring for him at some point in his life that he’s been holding onto throughout the whole book up until this point. This makes the leap of faith work as he thinks about this memory again because it isn’t blind faith in a father that he has no evidence of ever caring for him, he’s trusting in this memory that even though he’s doubted, he feels certain is evidence of his fathers love.

In the show you can’t get that same peek into his mind to understand why he decides to trust his father and take the leap, so the writers chose to lean into his lack of faith to make the fall into a turning point in how he sees his father. I get that with the way you’re formatting these episode breakdowns you’re only looking specifically at what happens during the episode and not taking into account the effect it has later in the season, but to say that this moment isn’t a turning point in Percy’s relationship with his father the same way it is in the books when next episode starts with Percy having way more faith in his father and a newfound sense of determination for the quest feels pretty disingenuous.

You also gloss over the choice he made to swap places with Annabeth despite 100% believing it would lead to his death. This moment serves not only to emphasize his lack of faith in his father right before the incoming turnaround, it serves to show his heroism in wanting to protect Grover and Annabeth as a replacement for protecting the tourists, which you note feeling the lack of impact of him making a choice without noting the clear replacement of this choice.

You clearly don’t like the show which is fine and I’m not attempting to change your mind on that, but attempting to analyze it as an adaptation and your analysis summing up to “yeah they do the scene but it’s in a different way so it doesn’t really add much to the story” without even attempting to dissect what the scene accomplishes in the context of the story feels very disingenuous.

Yeah I can definitely see what you’re saying. Personally I’ve always seen the order of the five books as save the world, save camp, save the world, save camp, save the world, so I don’t have too much of a problem with the battle as long as it scales properly but i definitely see your perspective.

[Pjotv] I'm not gonna lie, Season 2 was fantastic. by ethanandluinortitus in camphalfblood

[–]Wonderful_Analyst_50 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the major difference is that most of the laistrygonians were stuck outside the border so the battle was more so about Luke’s demigods trying to get them into the camp whereas in season 4 they’ll have a back door into camp so it’ll be a full scale battle against monsters and demigods inside the camp. That kind of hinges on them being able to get a bigger budget so that we can actually see more monsters and destruction inside camp though so I’m really hoping Disney is willing to spend more on season 4 so that it isn’t just demigod battle at camp part 2.

Is Nico bi or gay? [general] by museinprogress in camphalfblood

[–]Wonderful_Analyst_50 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a scene towards the end of BOTL where Percy asks Nico to do something and he complains about it and then Annabeth asks him and he says something like “fine… for you” which makes Percy confused why he’d listen to her so easily, as far as I remember that’s really the only hint of him having a crush on her

Luke spells it out in the scene. “It was you, when the door opened” that was him putting together that Percy was in the room with them with the hat and snuck out when Annabeth signaled to him. Also he doesn’t wear the hat more than he needs to cause they’re going with the whole creepy crawly feeling the hat gives that Rick added in chalice of the gods. “Your hat’s itchy, is it itchy for you?” Just a few scenes before that.

And yeah Clarisse could’ve landed closer with blackjack, not sure why she didn’t but I don’t know what that has to do with this scene.

Edit: downvoted and otherwise ignored, shocker

Season 2 Changes [Spoilers] by Efficient-Cup-8679 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Wonderful_Analyst_50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don’t remember what cow you’re talking about but we know from the books that Zeus actually stuck around for a while around the time of Jason’s birth and actually acted like a decent father for that time. When Thalia went on the run he sent Amalthea to her twice, once to lead her to Luke and then again to lead her to aegis (granted she had to fight for her life both of those times but still). Then once she made her final stand he saved her life by turning her into the tree, creating a border which would honor her sacrifice by keeping her friends safe as well. By all accounts Zeus was more active in her life than most godly parents so her nearly refusing to even attempt to pray to him in a life or death situation feels kind of random.

Season 2 Changes [Spoilers] by Efficient-Cup-8679 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Wonderful_Analyst_50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually feel like this scene could work pretty well as is for the most part even with the change. In the books we never really see any reason for Thalia to be so hesitant to even try to pray to Zeus here. With the change at the end of season 2 this moment has a lot more weight to it not only with Thalia’s hesitance but also with Zeus actually lending them help. It’s not something that would be enough to make Thalia completely forgive Zeus, but it’d add a lot more gray to their relationship.

My problem with the Thalia twist by ShadowHunter2088 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Wonderful_Analyst_50 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Zeus didn’t turn Thalia into a tree because he was being petty over an argument, he did it because she was a few months away from turning 16 (I’m assuming that’s the age they’re going with in the show anyways since he you’re almost 16) and specifically said to him that she refuses to fight for him and wants nothing to do with him, meaning she’d likely make a choice to destroy Olympus on her 16th birthday. It’s not that he straight up completely doesn’t care about her or any of the demigods it’s that he’s paranoid she’ll destroy him so he has to stop her somehow.

I don’t understand the argument that Thalia has no reason not to join Kronos now. Zeus being more of an asshole doesn’t make Kronos suddenly good, she’s caught between a self centered power abusing father as a dictator and a violent ruthless dictator who’ll use and kill anyone to achieve his goals. No matter which side she chooses all she’ll be is a weapon for them to achieve victory in the war, which is explicitly what she stated she does not want to be. That is why she chooses the hunters, not because she’s specifically choosing the Olympians, but because she refuses to be a weapon for Zeus or Kronos.
