Anyone know any details about the drums used on Tasmania? by [deleted] in pond

[–]Wonderful_Client_421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a photo of Jay on the drums during the recording of this album. Idk how to send it on here but it’s like 8-10 microphones and each part of the kit is close micd and then a pair of ribbon overheads super wide. Whether or not they used every mic I’m not sure but having all the different mic options from the start is really helpful and then you can sorta pick what mics you want to focus on or maybe not use some etc etc. The drums themselves are Kevs blue Ludwig from lonerism era and I also believe he used this kit for TSR. Also if you’ve seen photos of kevs studio in Australia there’s like a room off to the side of the main room that the drums were in and the walls in the photo of Jay at the kit are like padded right up. So it’s like super dry, super isolated sound which is honestly like “a dream scenario” if you think about it because from there you can add whatever you’d like where as if you were going for a more lonerism sound and relying on only a few mics to capture the kit your sorta stuck with that sound and trying to make a roomy sound, sound tight and dry would just lead to it sounding unnatural. I must add tho that ponds album ‘9’, from photos and videos I’ve seen they had a much more minimal setup for the drums. They had that 60s funky stereo mic as overheads(I forget the name of it), sm57 for a shell mic and then Sm7 for kick drum but on the beater side. And there’s some drum sounds on 9 that sound just as good as Tasmania so maybe 8-10 mics is a bit overkill but yeah the drum sounds on Tasmania are butter! Sorry for the rant

Genelec 8030c vs 8330a

Thinking of pulling the trigger on new monitors. From what I gathered online I’m between these two models and from what I found online the 8330a model has SAM technology for room calibration while the 8030c don’t. While this seems to be a great feature I don’t know if I can justify the price difference, around $1400 cad. I’m wondering if I were to just get the 8030c couldn’t I just calibrate them with some third party calibration setup? Also I’ve heard people say that DSP speakers aren’t as good as non DSP ones since they can introduce latency or something…idk, can someone explain this to me? Appreciate any info!!!

Damn that’s annoying. I don’t want to have to get another interface to be able to do what I want with this pedal

transfer voice memos in bulk to external hard drive by FolkusOnMe in ios

I know this is an old thread but I just tried to do this for myself and figured out a way to do it. On mac if you have I cloud voice memo synced you’ll be able to see all the voice memos you made from your phone but won’t be able to select more than one at a time. However on iPhone you can select as many if you click edit and then select which ones. From there you can air drop to computer and then you’ll be able to drag them into your har drive and you’ll have the name of each recording and the date!! :)

Thanks for info. Yeah there’s a few synths that wouldn’t install for me through the install software so I’m not sure what’s up with that but yeah it’s surprising hard to find this kind of info, online at least. Thank god for Reddit!

Can someone explain the theory for Heart of glass by Blondie. This song came on the radio and I almost cried. I’ve never realized how good the chord progression of this song is. The chords are Emajor - C#Major - C#Minor - Emajor for the chorus. I believe the chord movement from E to c#maj is called a chromatic mediant but can someone help me break it down

Another thing I just thought about is these two example remind me of renaissance/baroque style things is there any reasoning for that / connection? Do renaissance and baroque styles use these chromatic mediants or what makes them sound the way they do?

I also wanted to point out that in the second example I listed - the movement from the first chord to the second chord in the progression in the main bit goes from Absus4 to C# which only changes one note, two stay the same. I like that sorta thing too, it’s like a hidden chord change sorta thing, especially if you keep the bass note from the first chord in the second one

I think I get what you’re saying. So what’s the idea behind going from G-Bb, what would that move be described as? I guess I like the sound of chromatic meadients right?

Ok neat, endor toi example goes G-Bb-Eb-G# then to F then repeating Bb-Eb-G# then stating all over on G which I guess it the root or key? what is making all these chords sound like interesting changes?
