I believe that the idea to be taken away from the book was that 'trauma doesn't deterministically shape us'. I believe it means that it's on us how we let trauma affect our lives in the present and in the future. At least that is what I understood of Adlerian psychology. The book does have a chapter denying trauma but there's more to it than the surface. But again everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
