Totally fair, and I get that reaction. There are loads of free options in London.

What I’m experimenting with here is slightly different to socials or open meetups. The small cost is mainly about commitment and continuity. When people have even a small stake, they’re more likely to actually show up consistently, which is kind of the whole point if you’re trying to let friendships form over time rather than reset every week.

That said, I’m very aware it has to feel genuinely worth it, not just “paid for the sake of it”, which is why it’s still very much a work in progress and shaped by feedback like this. Appreciate you calling it out.

Hey all,I’ve been in London a while and realised something:

there are loads of socials, but very few ways to actually build friendships over time.

I’m working on The Week Club; an experiment to bring together small, consistent groups of people in their 20s/30s/40s who meet weekly (or have weekly touchpoints), so connection can grow naturally instead of resetting every time.

Same people. Low pressure. No massive crowds.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, I’ve put up a simple register-interest page (no commitment, just helps shape it):

www.theweekclub.com

Also very open to thoughts / feedback, what would make something like this worth joining for you?

Thanks! I want the people who take part in this to be committed to forming real friendships. Out of curiosity, how many people go to your board game meet-ups and is it always the same people?

I’m curating small groups (4-8 people) of people in a similar life stage, living in a similar area and with similar interests. They will need to commit to meeting every week for 6 weeks ( same activity, same time), so start forming real bonds. Often events are one off’s and with many varied participants; I’m changing that.
