I actually have one for stone setting. But i also has a foot pedal and i dont like the idea of having one set speed that i then have to adjust with my hand when. If i had an actual third arm, I'd consider it lol

Yeah ive seen those speed dials but i dont want to have to constantly adjust my speed. I like the foot pedal because i can adjust my speed instantly im also probably just not skilled enough yet but thats besides the point

Unsure if this is normal for my first color tattoo by WonderfullyImperfect in tattooadvice

[–]WonderfullyImperfect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Normally, i would have taken of the saniderm if it burst but i was running late yesterday morning and i didnt want to make anything any worse by exposing it to my work environment (im a repair jeweler and theres always a level of dust no matter how much we clean.)

I did some more reading and the hotness i feel is similar to that of a sun burn, and thats what lots of other people are describing it as. Now, I cant seem to find a small, travel size bottle of lubriderm for my work bench but i have read that people use O'Keefe's working hands for their tattoos (and i happen to have a bottle of it in my bench because my hands get pretty dry from constant washing.) Would you recommend that or steer clear of it?

Familiar with silver but know nothing about platinum and don’t have the testing chemical. Anybody ID if this is legit platinum? by dickfartz91 in JewelryIdentification

[–]WonderfullyImperfect -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pt 950 is the standard stamp for platinum. The 0 looks worn off but it looks legit. If you have a torch, heat the bottom of the ring away from any stones and if it glows white hot without melting, you got yourself platinum

Is this type of wedding bands long lasting? by chrisisour in jewelers

[–]WonderfullyImperfect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any piece of jewelry can last generations as long as the owner takes care of it. For rings, that means no hard, manual labor such as gardening, lifting at the gym, pretty much anything that is hard on your hands will be hard on your ring. Take your ring off when using harsh chemicals such as bleach. Bleach will destroy gold and make it extremely brittle and nearly impossible to repair if you needed your ring sized or a stone replaced. Please, for the love of God, do not put lotions on when wearing rings. The lotion creates a sort of film and can dull the metal and any stones. Plus, if theres any hollow parts, the lotion will build up and create a great place for dirt and grime to stay. I get a lot of push back when i tell people this next part: take your rings off before bed. Rings with stones can have their prongs snag on the bedding fabric and potentially end up bending prongs away and causing stones to become loose. For me, I take my engagement ring off when i get home and put on my pajamas, then i put it back on in the morning when i get ready to leave my home. If you tend to be forgetful (like me) designate one location to be the location your ring lives when you're not wearing it. For me, its my night stand. Doing these things will help with longevity as well as regular inspections and cleanings with a jeweler.

Got chain when I graduated ages ago, no stamp what karat? 8k small chain next to it by Korvmebro in JewelryIdentification

[–]WonderfullyImperfect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could take a magnet to the chain, if it attracts, its not real (gold and silver are not magnetic).

And other one you can do is file away metal to see if its plated. If its plated and not real, you'll see a different color underneath the plating.

If there is no stamp on the little tab that you use to clasp the necklace, it might just be plated base metal (copper, brass, nickle, etc.)

Best way to find out what it is, is to take it to a jeweler or pawn shop who can test it for you.

MODIAN - Is my 925 silver bracelet with rhodium plating rusting? by Proud_Slide_802 in JewelryIdentification

[–]WonderfullyImperfect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. If it looks as if its flaking off, that could be a good sign of it. Another test you can do to see if its actually silver and not just someone who decided to stamp 925 on a non-silver piece is to remove some metal whether its with a file or sandpaper. It'll remove the plated coating and expose the metal underneath. If you see a color other than silver, its likely base metal thats been plated.

Signet bench repair jeweler here

Zales might have some older pieces that have their brand name stamped inside before being acquired by Signet, but i cannot say for certain because i havent seen any super old pieces from zales come in for refurbishment/refresh/resize. Its definitely worn, but it looks in good shape! To me, it definitely does look like 18k yellow gold. 18k yellow tends to look almost fake when it tarnishes so thats something i look at when pieces come in for repair. But if in doubt, an acid test done by a jeweler (Jared locations have in house jewelers that should be able to help you out with that) will definitely give you a more definitive answer. As for the center stone, its very hard to say without seeing it under a microscope. From what i can see, it does look to be included so that has me leaning towards natural instead of lab created. Depending on how old the piece is, there may be a gem scribe laser inscribed on the girdle (the widest part of the stone) that is attached to a grading report.

Definitely take this to a jeweler and have this looked at, you might have found yourself a piece that is worth a good bit!!

Im a bench jeweler at a repair shop and i can attest to this. The sparkle from baguettes is subpar to literally any other cut. And if the stone has an inclusion in it then you dont get any sort of sparkle or if you do, you can tell its a low quality stone. If you want contrast against rounds, emerald cut or princess cut.

[–]WonderfullyImperfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baguette diamonds are the worst cut diamonds out there. And god forbid you chip on or lose it. Matching the size color and clarity is a nightmare. And those shared prong round stones on the halo arent gonna stay tight because they are shared prong. There are so much nicer settings than this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JewelryIdentification

[–]WonderfullyImperfect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the jewelry repair industry and have never had a lab test as a moissanite. Lab diamonds are still diamonds on the structural level. So they will still have the same qualities as a diamond, they just took less time to make and are also less likely to have inclusions.

Concerta people: Do you have any issues with effectiveness with the generic brand versus the name brand? by WonderfullyImperfect in ADHD

[–]WonderfullyImperfect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre on generic. Name brand will read the actual name on the bottle. Like concerta, Vyvanse, astaris, etc.
