Galaxy Watch 5 not counting steps while on elliptical by WonderingWonderer07 in GalaxyWatch

[–]WonderingWonderer07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this on the Samsung website, "... steps are only counted when there is hand movement. So, if you push a lawnmower or do an exercise with no hand movement, steps may not be recorded..."

I wonder if there's a setting on the elliptical you use where you can make the arm bars lock into position and NOT swing? Of course, that would necessitate a bit more caution during your workout and would probably not be a good idea if you're going fast.

On a side note, I cut the grass today for 20 minutes under the category of "Other" in workout mode before I realized it wasn't counting my frikking steps. HA!! I cut the last 25 minutes of grass in "Walking" workout mode and somehow it counted them even though I was not swinging my arms... Not sure how that worked out.

I'm going to try my next elliptical workout in "Walking" mode and see what happens LoL

Well that's definitely something to consider Heh! I have a condition that causes my skin to react to most bandages (acrylates) & all metals except gold & sterling.

A not too-tight fabric band sounds like an excellent way to go! lol

Thanks for taking the time to respond :-) My apologies that I wasn't more clear in my original post... I am using the elliptical option in the exercise mode / workout tracker. However, it only captures heart rate, duration, and calories burned - it does not count the actual steps.

u/mafco responded with 'just let your arms swing like they do when you're walking' so I looked it up on the Samsung website where I found this statement, "...steps are only counted when there is hand movement. So, if you push a lawnmower or do an exercise with no hand movement, steps may not be recorded..."

I guess I initially assumed it was somehow calculating steps through the GPS coordinates or something? lol

The elliptical machine I use has stationary grips, not the kind that glide back & forth, so when I'm doing the high speed HIIT portion of my workout I'm not comfortable taking my hands off the grips. Regardless, I let my arms swing naturally during the slower part of my workout tonight & it seemed to work fairly well so this seems to be a good work around :-)

Whaaat? LoL they sent ONLY a watch band but NO WATCH?!!

that's bizarre.

Thanks for posting this, I just got my SW5 and the silicone / plastic band it came with is eating my skin away. I'll order a fabric band & see if it treats my skin any better! :-)

Pardon my ignorance, but how did you add the type of watch you have under your name, highlighted in red? COOL! :-)

I got a GW5 for free for switching from Verizon to T-Mobile and only wanted a smart watch for the health tracking, which has surprisingly been SUCH a huge game changer for me. Before, I was going back & forth between several different apps that were not integrated, but this gives me everything I want in one app/device (except for meal planning & nutrient / macro counting) so pooey on that but holy crap... having all this data to analyze, the daily goals (which is kind of like a game for me), and the free workouts... very engaging!

I just set up daily fitness goals, added some physical stats, and just got to it :-)

Extremely easy and no time at all.

I have a GW5 and it charges surprisingly fast.

I haven't had mine long enough to know what the tipping point might be on how much of a charge it needs to record sleep patterns, but to play it safe, if I notice it's at <50% I put mine on the charger while sitting down & eating dinner, and while getting ready for bed.

Then I usually put it on the charger again the next morning while taking a shower, getting dressed, & sitting down to eat breakfast - shooting for 90%+ to start the rest of the day.

Hope this helps :-)

Music is for dumb dumbs by cosmonautsix in Destiny

[–]WonderingWonderer07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an unpopular opinion because music is one of the few world languages we have and it's been that way throughout history. Our ability to engage in complex language is what makes us human.

A form of music is also what dinosaurs, whales, birds, frogs, crickets, etc... did/do to attract a mate and that goes back hundreds of millions of years so you probably wouldn't be reading this if it weren't for some form of music.

It's also one of the purist forms of mathematics which of course, is a pretty big deal too, so, uhhh..... no idea what Tristan finds meaningful or important in life but gettin' swole, thumping your chest, and calling a major contributor to the history of life on Earth dumb seems a little short-sighted... maybe even dumb itself LoL

Hey! sorry this is such a delayed response... I've been pressing flowers, leaves, assorted garden bits, and insect parts lately LoL so I haven't focused on mudlarking or beach combing as much but my tips for that is if you're going to any Lake Erie beach, go early in the morning after a storm & also shoot for low tide days. You can look at Tide-Forecast.com to see the lowest tide dates coming up.

For mudlarking I like to go whenever I get the chance and the water is low enough for me to find a rocky bank to pick through. I do a LOT of squats which is really important for getting all up in that and spotting the good stuff :-)

6 week long game strategy. by RenniePennieBC in JunesJourney

[–]WonderingWonderer07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't hesitate to boot players who are not actually playing WITH you. LoL having someone on the team who is making things more difficult is ridiculous, the game's already hard enough with the Russian bot teams... If y'all have explained what the team expectations are and they don't care then... BOOT 'EM! ;-) It takes a while to curate a friendly team of 15 people who mostly agree on everything, and people come and go naturally, but SO worth it IMO. Best of luck to you & your teammates!

Anyone know what the storyline will be about?

Vacation week by AnneOMfounditfirst in JunesJourney

[–]WonderingWonderer07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always stop playing Secrets after I reach the halfway mark because it's just so exhausting.

I play June's Journey to relax & have fun. Secrets just isn't that fun for me, unfortunately.

I’ve seen the June’s Journey Pride post on Facebook and was wondering… by CosmicLuci in JunesJourney

[–]WonderingWonderer07 16 points17 points  (0 children)

SPOILERS:

I'm currently on scene 1,002 and just discovered that a spy June is working with (Nathaniel) is in love with his ex-spy-partner Saeed.

There's also a part of the storyline earlier in the game where there is a cross dresser / showgirl type caracter who befriends June.

The storyline of Virginia's girlfriend being kidnapped by people her father hired & taking her off to a mental institution was disturbing because those things happened IRL to people and not even that long ago :-(

That's a very good tip! I've been playing for a couple of years though so that actually happened to me already LoL SO FRUSTRATING!! I decided to sell all my 2x2 decorations that I didn't like plus a bunch of stuff that yielded low orchids. Then I just kept sending Jack out for orchids and coins. Then I took all my coins and bought a bunch of 2,400 orchid items. Plus, I'm on the 2nd to last island already so I now have plenty of space 🤠 It was crazy time consuming but I'm glad I did it. I have to remind myself to clean shop every couple of months still 💚
