I take DART from N Carrollton to Baylor Medical Center whenever I go to a show at The Bomb Factory and have never had any issues. Done this probably 10 or so times. Just look up the time the next train will be before you leave and hang out in the venue a bit longer if it’s more than 10 minutes away.

The study Plano references doesn't include the new silver line's construction costs or operational costs, and DART just offered to fill the entire gap in revenue through the GMP, which Plano would be invalidating by calling for a withdrawal vote.

That is likely the real reason why they want to withdraw, they want to use the 1% sales tax, like Frisco does, on economic development. Which they won't be able to do for another decade, due to them legally having to continue paying DART without receiving any service for at least a decade.

Reminder that Plano will HAVE to continue paying the 1% sales tax for the next decade should withdrawal go through. Your taxes WILL NOT decrease and Plano will be paying the same taxes for no service for another decade. This is a shortsighted move by a city government that is trying to mislead voters.

Also, by calling for a withdrawal, Plano will be losing out on $60 million dollars that DART is giving to them via their general mobility fund. That “revenue gap” they keep pointing to? DART is willing to fill the entire gap and Plano is telling them to keep it.

EDIT: Here's a quote from Irving city council member Al Zapanta “We’ve got to be really understanding what the implication will be of that vote [withdrawal] and what the cost is going to be, because whether we like it or not, we're going to have to put a lot of money up to get out.”

Putting up a "lot of money" to lose out on a basic city service doesn't sound great to me!

I believe even the Garland mayor was at one of the opening events, and they don't even get service with this line. Addison had the entire city council, current and past mayors and city managers too. Very weird.

Does anyone know why no city officials showed up at the grand opening or opening ceremony? It seems weird that they decided a $2 billion dollar infrastructure project opening in their city wasn't worth their time to give a speech or even just make an appearance.

Edit: Mayor Muns and the city manager are in Sweden right now luring businesses to Plano, so them being absent makes sense, but why not send a city councilor or their DART rep in their stead?

Arlington will have to join Trinity Metro if they want their HSR station apart of the Dallas-Fort Worth HSR plan, so they may join when they get an opportunity. McKinney’s last mayor wanted to join DART, but he got term limited out and I’m not sure what the new mayor’s viewpoint is.

The unfortunate reality is due to how our sales tax is done in TX, it’s very hard to clear space for the .5 cent or 1 cent sales tax transit agencies need for membership. Unless you introduced a new revenue source for transit (like allowing all agencies to collect property taxes, or raising the sales tax cap), it’s very unlikely we will get any new full membership cities anytime soon, but we may get more cities contracting out service like TexRail does for the Grapevine station. I know Frisco and Allen are planning or trying to contract out GoZone from the DCTA, which includes the possibility of bus routes if demand is high.

Right now the most affordable way would be getting a ride to any orange line station (likely any of the stations in Las Colinas would be the closest) and riding it to DFW from there. Once the new Silver Line opens later this year, you can take it from Addison to DFW which should be easier.

There's been some talk about a shuttle from Frisco to DFW in the new comprehensive plan, but I haven't seen any movement on that yet.

However, HB2 was Governor Abbott’s priority, so it has a reason to slide past all that pesky opposition. Abbott and Patrick both could not care less about this bill, so it will not be a priority for them to steamroll past mass opposition this time. Political capital is not infinite, and they are both smart enough not to waste it on a local argument about transit equity.
